Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a fantastic time at time at your lovely home. Everything was perfect. The house was gorgeous and wonderfully equipped - kitchen equipment, games, DVDs, paintings, outdoor furniture etc. and a fantastic amount of information provided. Michelle and the girls have a great passion for all things to do with bears so your bedspreads etc. went down very well.

As you said the house was very large but actually felt very cosy and welcoming. Despite the size of the house our two youngest daughters decided to share the upstairs bedroom. Even the weather was great (warmer than we expected, particularly in the evenings). We had a great time sitting out on the deck for breakfast and in the evenings and the views were absolutely magnificent - the reason we were so keen to visit this area in the first place. Although there were some fires - Emigrant and three I think in Yellowstone, they only affected us very marginally with a bit of haze from time-to-time, unlike the situation when we visited Yosemite a few years ago where we almost got caught in the middle of a fire. The girls and I made great use of the basketball hoop and we all made quite a lot of use of the hot tub.

I think we visited every one of the list of 'must see' sights that you kindly provided and a few more besides. We particularly liked:

· The Canyon (we did a fantastic rim walk there which avoided the crowds and got us very close to the falls);

· Yellowstone Lake which was placid, looked fantastic and had very few people;

· 'Morning Glory' which was unbelievably colourful - and also un-crowded as most people appear to go to Old Faithful then leave.

· The Midway Geyser basin – which again was so colourful

We saw most animals – but unfortunately no bears except ‘Brutus’ and friends in the compound on the way to Bozeman.

We also spent quite a lot of time in Bozeman itself (which we really liked), we went rafting from Gardiner down the river which was excellent and went to Nevada & Virginia City on one day, the best part of which was the drive because the scenery was magnificent. We did not attempt to go further afield to Grand Teton or the Bear Tooth Pass because there was plenty that we wanted to do nearer.

Many thanks for letting us use your amazing house. When things settle down a bit I would be delighted to write a five-star review and probably send you a few pictures which illustrate the fantastic time we had there.

AWESOME VACATION

  • 5 of 5
First just let me say, the owner Adele is fabulous to work with from booking to checking out. She makes you feel like you have known her all your life. Wonderful, Wonderful person,
Now for the vacation, there was a total of 6 adults and 4 children from age 6 to 13. The cabin was beautiful the pictures doesn't do it justice. Plenty of room for everyone with out getting in the way of each other. Homey and very comfortable, great location to shopping and site seeing. We took the grandkids to Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Teton National Park. They loved it, seen a lot of animals especialy Bison and Elk. We had a family of deer come in the yard of the cabin a couple of evenings, just loved that. There were rabbits running around the yard, kids loved watching them. We did horse back riding in Gardiner Montana right outside Yellostone, not many would take anyone under 8 but they did and we had a wonderful time. The kids did the Boiling River swim in Yellowstone, where the hot gyser water runs into the river. They had a great time. The weather was great had one rain day. Temperture was cool, it felt great to us coming from the south.
I would recommend this home to anyone that wants to visit the area and not be in the middle of all the tourist attractions, that way when you go home for the evening you can prop your legs up and really relax. Love this place, i'm thinking this would be a good place for my family reuion. So look out Adele you might see me back.
Again i would like to thank you Adele for all of your patience and help.

Amazing Find in Livingston, MT

  • 5 of 5
My extended family and I stayed here for a week. There were 8 adults and 3 teenagers. What the pictures do not adequately convey is how spacious this home is. With this many people in the home, it never felt crowded. The bedrooms are located in many different parts of the home so you feel as if you have your own "space."

Everything in the home is first class, from the bedding, thick, fluffy towels and fully stocked kitchen. I would highly recommend this home and plan to return in the future to enjoy a winter stay!!!

Owner's Response: Christine, thank you so much for your wonderful review. We look forward to having you spend time at our home again. Winter is a wonderful time in Montana. Bridger Bowl ski resort is just a 35 minute drive away and the North entrance to Yellowstone is open all year round for vehicles and is just a 40 minute drive away. Driving from the North entrance to Cooke City takes you through the beautiful Lamar Valley. Here you can often see the Bison foraging in the snow, the wolves and of course the snow covered mountains and valley are just awesome. We hope to see you soon.

Ideal reunion spot!

  • 5 of 5
This was the perfect site for our gathering of eight college friends (now in our 50's). The location is ideal- an easy drive from the Bozeman airport, Yellowstone Park (less than an hour from the north entrance), and other activities such as hiking and fishing. The home is on a large property so feels private with no close neighbors, but the caretakers are just a short distance away. The house has a nice combination of separate sleeping and private areas and spacious communal living room, dining room and kitchen which is well stocked with dishes, cookware and utensils. The house is very clean with new appliances including laundry. The beds are luxurious and SOOOOO comfortable! The town of Livingston is also very nice- the people we met in the local shops and farmers market were very friendly and helpful. There are a variety of good restaurants, and the grocery store is 10 minutes from the house. In short, we lacked for nothing! It was the ideal setting for going out on daily adventures and returning to cook a delicious meal together- or just relaxing with a book. Finally,we were amazed at how warm and helpful the owners were, and the caretakers were so friendly and responsive to the few questions/needs we had. I hope to return.

This home provided everything we could ever possibly want or need. A fully stocked kitchen, games and entertainment for kids, washer and dryer, amazing balcony to view sunrise and sunsets, just to name a few. The beds are very comfortable and we had lots of space to spread out. I loved that we were able to end our days around the kitchen table looking at pictures from the day, laughing and creating memories of a lifetime. I feel as if the owners are now friends, we spoke often and they checked on us several times during our stay. There are 2 beautiful waterfalls that we hiked to within 30 minutes of the home. The drive to Yellowstone and Bear Tooth Highway took approximately 2 hours to get to, but the drive is stunning. We prefer to stay somewhere not crowded where we can enjoy the great outdoors and family. This home definitely provided it all.

It was a pleasure having you all stay. As you suggested, I do hope we too can come and visit your wonderful State in the near future. I am so pleased you enjoyed visiting Yellowstone and the Beartooth Highway. The scenery is awesome. One of our favourite days out is to travel the wonderful 40 minute drive down Paradise Valley to the north gate of Yellowstone, then take a leisurely drive through the Mammoth area to see the hot springs, take the route through the Lamar Valley with all the wonderful animal sightings ( many stops for photo shots and just to take in the scenery!) to Cooke City and then onward over the magnificent Beartooth Highway to Red Lodge. It is a splendid and memorable day out. We either head back though the park again for a late afternoon or evening drive or head back through Big Timber ( horse whisperer country) to catch dinner at our favourite Livingston restaurant.
We would love to have you visit again if you head to Montana. We offer a discount for all our previous guests.

Amazing views and location. Well equipped home with lots of room.

We arrived for our one week stay on June 24th. Bozeman is a fantastic airport to fly into, and is only about 40 mins to the door of the house. My husband,myself and our two young children as well as 3 other couples made up our large group of 10. There was plenty of room for everyone and could have easily added another child or two to the mix. The layout of the house gave everyone their own space, but provided wonderful community space as well. The large open kitchen was fantastic for all of the big meals we made and had everything we could possibly need to cook with. Our weather was a little spotty with rain periodically through the stay. But our good weather days were awesome with high 70s during the day and high 50s at night. We spent a day driving through Red lodge and the northern road through Yellowstone park, visited the lovely farmers market, walked along the river in town starting at the park, panned for garnet and Safire, hiked up to Pine Creek Falls (a highlight for us and the kids) went horseback riding at Flying Diamond (beautiful views on their 2hr trail) visited Chico hot springs, fished in the Madison and Yellowstone rivers walked through town and found a great kite store! The wind loves Livingston and the kids had a blast with their kites! The sunrises and sunsets were breathtaking from the large porch. The pool table kept us entertained when it was raining and in the evenings and the hot tub was a hit for relaxing at the end of our full days. It is a short drive into town but nicely secluded where the house lies. I would go back again in a heartbeat! The owner was wonderful to communicate with, and I feel like I've gained a friend in this experience! I really cannot say enough good things about our stay!

Owner's Response: Sarah and Fred,
Thank you for such a wonderful review. Thank you also for the lovely set of photographs you emailed. It was great to see you all enjoying yourselves at all the scenic spots we know so well and enjoy too!
We have not found the kite shop in town, so that is now included in our guest information. We hope you discovered the Wilcoxon's ice cream made in Livingston whilst you were touring the town...it is our favourite.
Have a wonderful remainder of the summer and do come back to Montana soon. It has been a pleasure getting to know you.

My family and friends take a good number of vacations together and I'd be hard-pressed to find one that was better than our trip to Montana. Hunkapi was a large part of that success: it was clean, comfortable, roomy, and easily the best-stocked house I've ever rented (from the extensive kitchen equipment, laundry detergent, toilet paper, to little touches like Kleenex in almost every room). The proximity to Livingston was great and served as a wonderful starting point for daily adventures to Yellowstone, white-water rafting, horseback riding, hiking, and drives with stunning views. The caretakers were warm and friendly, as were the owners of the house - incredibly helpful people. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this rental and it will be at the top of my list if we should ever find ourselves vacationing in the area again.

Thank you all so much for a wonderful review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your time both in Montana and in our home. We are always looking for ways to improve our home to make your vacation as comfortable and as homely as possible. We could not do that without our wonderful caretakers, Kirk and Julie. It has been our pleasure to have you to stay. Please do look us up again if you come back to Montana.
