About The Owner
I live in San Diego, CA with my wife and two children (ages 6 and 2). We have a small business that makes software for kids; painting, animation, you know…fun stuff. San Diego gives us the beach, but we also love the mountains. All year round there is something for us to do. We plan to use this home as a family retreat for many, many years to come. For us, the house is just 5 hours door-to- door with an easy flight through Phoenix.
The Owner purchased this house in 2008
Why The Owner chose Cascade
This is our second home in the San Juans. In 2004 we were visiting Durango and drove up to Silverton. The drive is amazing and just before the passes sits beautiful Cascade Village. We drove by on a Friday. By Sunday we were in escrow on a condo. We just could not resist. I wanted a base to go mountain biking. My wife wanted a place to go skiing. We both got exactly what we were looking for. Three years later we bought a lot in the meadow and built a home for our growing family.
In the winter, DMR is the perfect resort for our family. There are plenty of trees for me, great open runs for my wife, the half-pipe for our son, and great people at the day care for our daughter until she is read to get on skis. And best of all, Durango’s idea of a busy day means you can’t just ski right on to the lift.
In the summer, we can hike the kids to Potato Lake, ride the Alpine slide at DMR, go biking, or just wander through the wildflowers in the meadow.
If you can make it out in the Fall, the colors are breathtaking. When the aspens change color, it is beautiful. So beautiful in fact, we named our daughter after it. Our Aspen loves going to her Colorado house.
What makes this house unique
Short lift lines in the most beautiful place on earth. That is just one of the benefits of a trip to the San Juans. The area is huge and there are not a lot of people. It is just peaceful.
We built this house for ourselves. So when you are staying here, you don’t feel like you are in a rental. You are in a home. It is welcoming, warm, and comfortable. While you are there you will call it your own.
