Great pool, location and beds--dangerous stairs
This was a beautiful location, with an excellent pool, and very comfortable beds, but we were very dissatisfied with this rental for the following reasons:
After our arrival, we realized that the distance between the spindles in the gate around the spiral stairway was much more than four inches apart, when one of our preschoolers stuck her head and body through the opening. There is also no latch for the gate. This is a very dangerous situation. As we had young children, it made it necessary for someone to be in the room with them at all times to ensure that they did not fall through the opening. The stairway also makes it very difficult for the elderly. It is not only dangerous, slippery, and hard to navigate but extremely noisy.
There is insufficient hot water for a rental to groups of twelve people.
Several of the lamps had no bulbs or no working bulbs. The TV picture downstairs constantly "freezes" and the area itself smells very musty. There is no main light switch in the bedroom. The DVD player had no functions and remotes had either no batteries or dead batteries.
The kitchen was poorly equipped or the equipment was substandard; i.e., a can opener that was almost impossible to operate, no non-stick fry pans that would have made cooking and cleanup easier, cheap plastic dishes that weren’t microwaveable. There were no flashlights or candles supplied. This would seem to be basic in an area subject to tropical storms, tornadoes, and hurricanes. The grill is falling apart, and it was filthy. The patio furniture is very rusty and has areas where there are raised edges which are also rusty. There was no net available to keep the pool free from debris although our paperwork stated that there was one.
We made the owner aware of these deficiencies as soon as we returned home and asked for compensation for our dissatisfaction. After weeks of waiting and us requesting an answer, he replied that the problems had been resolved.
We have rented in this area before and always been satisfied. We paid much more for this rental and felt that it was not worth it and did not live up to its advertising.
I would not recommend it to anyone.
Owner's Response: We certainly do appreciate the feedback that we have received, but I would like to point out a few things. We received notice from this guest after her stay over 5 1/2 months ago about the issues that she mentioned in her review and she also mentioned that the home would receive a good review if we compensated her. The home had recently come on board with us. We take our guest reviews very seriously and thanked her for letting us know about these items, but we did not feel that compensation was warranted especially since these items had all been addressed. The guest was not satisfied with our response and decided to post a negative review when we decided not to compensate her. We feel that the practice of a good review for compensation is not one that we choose to associate ourselves with.
