|Minimum Stay||4 - 5 nights|
Welcome to 'WeeksEnd'. This is our special retreat and the house of our hearts. As you enter, it wraps its arms around you and insists on relaxation and comfortable enjoyment. You will quickly feel your stress peel away. There are multiple living areas in the home each with its own ambiance and comforts. As one of our guests exclaimed 'The house spreads out like a country meal'! There are two master suites on the main level each with king beds and private baths along with cozy living room, spacious den, and kitchen and dining room. The second level has two bedrooms one with a king bed and the other with a double, both with private baths. The laundry room and recreation rooms are on the lower level of the house. You may choose quiet reading by the beautiful stone fire place or a movie from our over 300+ DVD collection and in the den equipped with surround sound. If the weather permits - sit out on the deck listening to music from our extensive CD collection which may be heard in 4 zones plus the living room and deck area. Or pull out the den table and start a puzzle of your choice from our game closet. The more energetic may head downstairs and rack up a game of pool, ping-pong or darts. Whatever you do - we know you will relax, leave your work and worries behind and enjoy the house and the mountains like we do.
Within Hounds Ears there is much to enjoy: The golf course was designed by George Cobb and in addition to being one of the most beautiful courses in NC, it demands precision and will test your skills no matter your handicap. There is an on-site golf pro who is also available for classes and instruction. In addition to golf, Hound Ears offers well-managed clay and hard surface tennis courts, also with an on-site pro. The heated outdoor pool is nestled in a beautiful setting with a cascading waterfall and is an ideal retreat for late afternoon cool offs. Our house is a short walk-away from the fitness/massage center located at the corner of Cherry Street. This center boasts the most current resistance training equipment , free weights as well as high performance machines which you may choose to use independently or request to work with the on-site personal trainer for new tips and work out ideas. Our home is also a short walk or drive to the main clubhouse which offers a beautiful setting for cocktails, fine and casual dining each day of the week during season. However, for a more relaxed schedule, cook-in on our Weber gas grill and have a spendid meal on our deck (which can easily sit 8-10) using our lovely mountain pottery. Fun and relaxation is the order of the day and the focus of your stay! ENJOY!

We work in live in Chapel Hill, NC. Hound Ears Club has been a part of our family since the early 1960's. We love the resort and the surrounding towns during all four seasons of the year. We spend as much time as possible at 'WeeksEnd', and each and every time we are saddened to leave.
Mendy Childress purchased this house in 1993
As a child, my parents built a house in Hound Ears - one of the first home-owners - and I spent my childhood loving Hound Ears and the mountains of North Carolina. So when I had the opportunity to purchase a second home, it was the only place I considered. It is the perfect retreat.
Casual Elegance that will be enjoyed by all ages!!! Regardless of the time of year you visit - Hound Ears Club and the surrounding towns of Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk and West Jefferson offer wonderful restaurants, shopping, special events, antiquing, etc. to enjoy.
I can't begin to count the number of times we have been privileged to have stayed in your mountain retreat over the past years! But, what I can tell you is that every time we go, we are so excited to be going back!! Girls' weekends, Christmas celebration, New Year's, birthdays, and just "lazy" visits have been cause for past trips. We busy ourselves while we are there with shopping, snow tubing, etc.; however, it seems that the time spent in your house is the times we enjoy the most....whether it be sitting fireside while the fire roars in the fireplace, or sitting outside on the deck listening to music while enjoying dinner we've cooked on the grill, or hanging out downstairs in the rec room. The furnishings are amazing -- everything from the heated mattress pads to the kitchen dishes -- nothing in this house says "rental" -- it all says "upscale home"!! My "kids" have grown up on visits to Weeks End, both having had at least one birthday trip for some snow fun on the ski slopes. And, although they are grown now, they still LOVE to be included in trips back to the "mountain house". It's especially fun to see them begin to include their own friends on our trips on occasion. We are looking forward to a stay at some point over the summer! Thanks for sharing your home with me over the years!
We loved the house, area, the outside deck for sitting, talking, and having cocktails. Each year we have a group of 4 couples that have been getting together for 20 + years for a long weekend somewhere. This year we decided that we would like to go to the Mountains. I just happened to find this web site, and needed a large house to sleep 8 adults. It was perfect. The house is really great for a group of 8 adults. Some can be outside on the deck, some watching TV, or just taking a nap, and you can not hear what the others are doing. We enjoyed going to Blowing Rock and Boone areas to shop, also 4 in the group went to the Zip Line which they said was fun.The mountains were great at this time of year. We are already planning our next visit to the "WeeksEnd" again for next fall. Thanks to Mendy & Kendall for opening your lovely house so people like us can enjoy the house and activites in Hound Ears Club. We had a wonderful time.
This may have been the most relaxing vacation our family has ever taken. We credit the house.
This home is sparkling clean and beautifully decorated. From the first step in the door we were intrigued and pleased. The interesting décor makes you feel like you have traveled with the owners. All rooms are pleasant with all creature comforts considered in advance. The beds are comfortable and there are 5 bathrooms! The activity room on the bottom floor was such fun for us. Some of us had not played ping pong in decades. We even sat at the windows and watched deer in the yard.
The spaciousness of the house allowed for some guests to find quiet while a party was going on somewhere else in the house. We had a newborn baby in our party so this was important and necessary for us.
The terrific deck and perfect weather made the evenings a real treat. We dined on the deck every night. The lighting and the music made for long pleasant evenings outside.
The house is well-stocked with condiments so, if possible, stop by the house before you shop for groceries.
The area is a lovely place with friendly people and we felt that we barely scratched the surface of what was available. We enjoyed hiking at Moses Cone, Price Lake, Linville Falls and Glen Burney Trail. Tweetsie was great fun for the children and it was not crowded when we went on a weekday. We roamed around Blowing Rock taking in some cute shops, ice cream from Kilwin's and walking around the small Mayview Lake behind the Memorial Park on Main Street. We visited the original Mast General Store and Annex in Valle Crucis. The Farmhouse across the street from Mast created a delicious lunch in a very nice setting. The barbeque sandwich and roasted veggie hoagie were hits. There was also a lunch spot nearby on the same side of the street as Valle Crucis at a sandwich shop and bakery that had fabulous pimento cheese on rye swirl bread (other bread choices) and chocolate bourbon pecan pie that was the best ever. I cannot recall the name but it is in a large building that it shares with some other shops including an antique store.
The owner Mendy was very kind, helpful and prompt when I had questions. We communicated by phone and email.
The listing description and photos cannot fully depict the warmth and uniqueness of this lovely home. We sat in the living room on our last day planning our trip for next year. Then we pouted all the way home.
Abundantly warm and open at the same time. From the time we arrive to HoundEars we immediately felt at home. We arrived to "Weeksend" and felt the warmth and care of the owners right away. Plently of space . . . a wonderful recreation area downstairs for anyone who did not want to walk a short walk to the fitness center.
The house is large enough for a family of 8 to feel very comfortable.
We typically visit the coast just before Christmas holiday; but, we've decided that this mountain retreat suits us even better. We also look forward to visiting again in spring or summer so that we can enjoy the huge deck for meals and just enjoying the serenity of such a special spot.
Thank you both for opening your home to us!
We decided to go on a family vacation instead of giving/receiving Christmas gifts. My husband and I went with his parents and mine. We loved that there were 2 master bedrooms downstairs. The bedrooms upstairs were also very roomy with private baths. We had never seen a home with 3 king size beds. The home is well maintained and very clean. We cooked in and enjoyed dinner out. We built a fire every night and enjoyed conversation and games in the living room. We played ping pong and pool (my mother's first time playing pool - very entertaining!). I worked out every morning downstairs with the treadmill and weights. The location was convenient to Blowing Rock and Boone. We also went to Linville Falls...beautiful. The house is cozy, but spacious. Hounds Ear Resort is fabulous! We recommend this home and we look forward to visiting again!
My wife, son, my friends and I all immensely enjoyed our stay at WeeksEnd. The house is well set up for multiple families/friends with extra bathrooms, an easy to use kitchen and a very sizable outdoor patio that was great for grilling out and spending time on after long days of enjoying the outdoors. The game room and fitness area was a great extra to have on a rainy day and with a whole house audio system there is plenty of entertainment to be had. The commute is a short 15-20 minutes to Blowing Rock or 35 minutes to Grandfather Mountain and Boone. The house is great for a walking toddler (our son was 16 months) and can be childproofed in 10 minutes before entering. Overall a great stay and we look forward to spending a week or two again there next season.
