The ski area extends over 3 nations, Italy, Austria and Slovenia, at the encounter point of 3 different cultures, Latin, German and Slavic, factor that adds to the diversity that the nature and landscape already guarantees.
The wider ski area includes 7 villages and towns, not all linked by ski runs, but very close to each other so that it is possible to reach any of the ski resorts in short day trips. Each of the ski resorts in the area offers unique characteristics and a large extra ski offer, which allow the tourist to enjoy a diverse and memorable mountain holiday.

Feedback from a visitor to the Kanin-Bovec resort:-
'After visiting Tignes/Val, Les arc, 3 Valleys etc this winter, I wasn't expecting too much from the Kanin ski area in Slovenia, especially as it was May when we visited (white water rafting trip). The ski area has the highest slopes in Slovenia (2300m)and the terrain once we got up there was amazing. What followed was one of the most enjoyable days off- piste riding I've had anywhere. The place is like a giant fun park with drops, jumps and chutes everywhere. I will definately be returning in winter 07' as the place has loads of lift accessed off-piste that noone seems to bother with. Good cheap food and beer, very friendly locals, no crowds & un-touched powder! What more can you ask for'
Ski:
Kanin ski resort is situated 2km from the centre of Bovec and is the only resort in Slovenia that extends above 2000m. Unlike most other resorts in Slovenia, Kanin has guaranteed snow from Dec to Apr.
The vertical runs on offer range from 1600-2300m, with the season lasting from December to early May. The resort currently offers 17km of ski pistes, a snowpark & 20 km of cross country pistes.
2009 will see the opening of the new lift connecting Kanin to the resort of Sella Nevea (1140-1850m) in Italy. This will open access to an additional 23km of ski pistes, increase vertical runs from 1140-2300m and transform Kanin into one of Slovenia's biggest ski resorts.
Facilities on the slopes include ski and boot rental, ski school, restaurants and bars. The free ski-bus picks you up and and drops you off right outside the apartment which is really convenient. Each apartment also offers its own secured storage cupboard for ski/boarding equipment
