Our stay in this apartment in Spello was really great. The apartment is situated only a block from the main square, where you can find shops, grocery stores, banks and the post office. The apartment is as cute as it looks in the pictures, with a brick vaulted ceiling that was built centuries ago. The bed and the chairs were very comfortable (we slept like babies). The flat screen TV and the Wifi worked great the entire time. Views of the Umbrian countryside from the large patio were as advertised! The bathroom and shower are a bit tight but were perfectly adequate for us, with good water pressure and fixtures. The kitchen is adequately supplied and made us feel like real Italian residents. We can’t say enough about Roberto, the owner of this property. He was totally helpful and congenial in every way. We are so glad we picked Spello for our extended stay. The convenient train station allowed us to reach many hill towns. It is just the right mix of locals and tourists to give the amenities you want (restaurants, shops, sights) while feeling like a local. And, it has that medieval feeling you want from an Umbrian hill town!
We really enjoyed our stay here. The photos don't do justice to the studio. It's comfortable and roomy. [It's a studio, so only good for one couple.]
It was clean, and nicely furnished. The wifi worked very well. The kitchen was well-furnished. The bathroom was small, but very clean and stylish.
Spello is a wonderful location : not crowded but with all the amenities we needed (especially with restaurants and wine bars). And the studio has about the best location possible in town. It's got a great view of the scenery to the east, but it's a 5 minute walk to the centre of town. A lot of climbing, but it's a hill town!
The entrance from the street opens into a very large terrace, with a splendid view (and a washing machine). [The terrace is a little barren : some more plants would be nice.] The studio is entered from the terrace : it's got a great view but is very private.
Roberto was very helpful. There was a lot of street construction (or destruction) just outside the building when we visited, but that's a very temporary phenomenon and Roberto warned us about it.
We didn't actually use the kitchen much : it's very well-equipped, but the local cafes and trattoria were so good (and so cheap) that we ate all our meals out. We particularly enjoyed the food and service at La Cantina, Osteria de Dada, and Drinking Wine, and breakfasted daily in the garden of the Bar Bonci. And bought what groceries we needed at the little store on the main (post office) square.
The studio apartment in Spello is lovely. Very cosy and great views. Roberto was very welcoming and very helpful and Spello is a lovely medieval town - not too touristy, but with enough restaurants and small stores to be just right. Close to other interesting towns and areas of interest. Not ideal for people who are not agile, as the step for the bathroom is a little awkward and the walk to town is up hill either by steps or the road. This shouldn't though deter anyone who is ok on their feet.
Your studio apartment was like being at home - the bed was so comfortable, your apartment had every convenience, it was so great to have the washer to get our laundry done, to be able to make a cup of tea when we wanted to, it was so quiet, and we felt so safe and comfortable. Your apartment is just like the picture you posted, it has such character and was spotlessly clean! We enjoyed the peaceful countryside view and privacy from the balcony. We loved Spello and your studio apartment! Wished we could of stayed longer. Thank you so much for your hospitality and kindness that you extended to us - picking us up at the train station, showing us the important things we needed to know in town and in the apartment. We so appreciated your help with our passport disaster - you made everything so much easier and took the worry out of it all. We would highly recommend this property for anyone looking to stay in Spello and Roberto was a wonderful, helpful host.
We were thrilled with our stay in this lovely and authentic rental in the lovely town of Spello. Don't be afraid of it being a small, cramped studio. The fact is, it's nearly the same size of a 1 bedroom apartment only without the walls. And the vaulted brick ceilings just added to the experience. The private terrace is huge, about 20x25 with wonderful views over the Umbrian countryside. The owner, Roberto, met us and was gracious and accomodating. There is ample free parking just a minute away, which is hard to find in these small hill towns. The location is just a minute's walk from the main square and plenty of restaurants and shops. Don't forget to wander the lovely back streets and alley ways of Spello. Spello makes for a great base when touring Umbria and it's no more than a 30 minute drive to Assisi, Bevagna, Montefalco or Spoleto. Todi is perhaps 40 minutes away.
I also own vrbo vacation rentals and I would be proud to add this property to my portfolio! It's a great unit, in a terriffic city, at a very affordable price.
(Yes, the bathroom is small and somewhat awkward, but you'll manage. Also as mentioned by another guest, yes there are 50 steps to get up to street level and the square; but if you're afraid of steps you shouldn't be visiting the hill towns! Here's a tip to avoid the steps: Instead of turning right out the door and up the steps, turn left and go down 7 or 8 steps to a level road/walkway that also leads you directly to the main street by the church.)
Everything about the apartment was more wonderful in real life than we could have ever expected. The charm of the cozy, immaculate apartment and the view from the large balcony made the experience of the Umbrian countryside come to life before we started sightseeing other small hill towns nearby. The local grocery store, wine shops, restaurants and gelato stops in Spello were all so convenient, and Roberto was very helpful in getting us aquainted with the town and area. We enjoyed cooking in the well-equipped kitchen and eating on the balcony or enjoying the view from our windows. An absolutely perfect place to stay while enjoying this part of Italy.
