COHO HOUSE - MOUNTAIN/WOODLAND RETREAT, GARIBALDI HIGHLANDS BC

Squamish House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Welcome to Coho House, situated in a quiet established neighbourhood of Garibaldi Highlands. The woodland garden leads directly into protected Coho Park - a beautiful and typical example of this rare Temperate Rainforest. In November, Coho salmon make their way upstream from the Fraser River and spawn in our creeks, inviting a huge eagle population to the area.

The house itself is on the second floor with a large 20'x20' deck in the front and a split level cedar deck in the back. Take a closer look at the rich birdlife during the day with a StarGazer telescope and wrap up warm in the evening to enjoy the sounds of nocturnal wildlife from the back deck.

The kitchen is modern and fully equipped for entertaining large parties, with a bar and breakfast nook.

The master bedroom with Queen sized bed offers spectacular glacier views in the early morning. Sliding doors open onto the central deck. The bathroom is a semi en-suite arrangement, accessible from this bedroom and from the hall.

Two hazelnut trees in the woodland garden are visible from the double bed in the 2nd bedroom.

There is an extra futon available for extra sleeping if necessary.

About Zoë Evamy

Originally from the UK, I am an artist with a background in animatd Film +TV. For years I lived a typically nomadic lifestyle, moving from contract to contract around Europe, the US and finally Canada. In 2000 I moved from Phoenix, Arizona to Vancouver and joined a 3D animation company. At the end of my first contract in Vancouver, I made a solo trip to the Queen Charlotte Islands on my motorbike. It was an incredible trip which gave me an insight into the beauty and mystery of the Pacific Northwest Coast. I knew I would never run out of places to paint in BC and that this was somewhere I could put down roots. Through my life of travels I have been treated to wonderful hospitality from friends, family and strangers - I dreamed of one day having a place of my own that I could share. I now work from my home studio on the ground floor of the house - visitors are welcome by appointment.

Zoë Evamy purchased this house in 2004

Why Zoë Evamy chose Squamish

My initial reason for buying a home in Squamish was its ideal location, half way between Vancouver and Whistler. I commuted for 6 years and was always thrilled by the stunning views and changing weather patterns along the Sea to Sky highway. I was drawn to the small town feel of Squamish, the peaceful, more established area in Garibaldi Highlands and the local scenery. The more time I spent in Squamish the more I found it full of pleasant surprises! As self professed 'Outdoor Adventure Capital of the World!' Squamish has a rich local history, a large and growing art community (30 art groups in town) and a diverse population that is passionate about the surrounding environment.

What makes this house unique

Imagine waking up to a sunrise over the glaciers seen from the master bedroom, enjoy locally roasted coffee and fresh bread baked on the premises.

Your choices of activities for the days ahead are numerous and varied. The woodland garden leads directly into protected Coho Park - a beautiful example of a rare Temperate Rainforest. Coho salmon make their way upstream from the Fraser River and spawn in our creeks, inviting a huge eagle population to the area.

From here you can follow bike or foot trails which lead to nearby Provincial Park, Alice Lake.

If you prefer something more extreme and exhilerating, you could book a helicopter flight from nearby Squamish airport and view Garibaldi Provincial Park from the air.

World Class skiing is 45 mins away in Whistler, 30 minutes to pristine cross country trails at the Callaghan Valley.

The Coho house was perfectly located for our family's mt bike vacation. The home is in a quiet area and Zoe was wonderful. The kitchen was wonderful and well stocked. The house worked very well for our family bike vacation. I would recommend the Coho house for any family visiting Squamish.

Home away from home in Squamish

  • 5 of 5
We had the most amazing weekend at Coho House. The house feels like a home that has been in the family forever - like a familiar second home. It is bright, clean, and welcoming with an eclectic aesthetic. The highlights are the beautiful kitchen, huge sunny deck, mountain views, paintings by the owner herself, and comfortable beds. Although we had plans in beautiful Squamish, we found it hard to leave Coho House every day.
Zoe is very accommodating and makes everything easy. She is a great resource for things to do in the area, and made us feel very comfortable. She truly has a hidden gem, and we won't be hesitating in booking our next stay.

Highly recommended!

We had a long term stay at the very comfortable and cozy Coho House in the spring of 2014. We especially loved cooking in the beautiful kitchen, exploring the trails behind the house, BBBQing on the large deck and picking fresh cherries of the trees on the backyard. The home is conveniently located within waking distance to shopping, bars and restaurants. Zoë was a gracious and kind host who was always there to help make the stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible for me, my wife and 6 year old daughter.

We loved our stay at Coho House. A beautiful and private suite with a reasonable price. The original artwork was so appealing with the mountain views as a backdrop. Loved the access to trails behind the house, and shops close by. Zoe was very helpful and provided a baby gate for our young lad.

Best of Both Worlds!

This Squamish location was a spot on location. We could hike the trails all around, explore the area south and north to see the waterfalls, go eagle spotting and enjoy the sunshine on the deck. The next day we could go up and take full advantage of the xc, downhill skiing with plenty of good snow. Zoe had good suggestions for the area restaurants and the off the beaten path areas to visit. We had a great time. Nice quiet neighborhood to return to nightly. Thank you Zoe

Great accommodations

  • 5 of 5
My husband told me when we got back to Squamish we should stay at Coho again! Zoe was amazing to deal with and was so accommodating with allowing us to show up early and leave late to allow my son to nap in a bed instead of in the car.

House was clean and had all the amenities of home! Would highly recommend to friends and family.
