Quaint, well located, well appointed, a real gem

  • 5 of 5
Stayed 3 nights, did all the tourist stuff, 2 couples. The apartment is just as described, and we all really enjoyed it in every way! A couple of warnings- lots of mosquitoes around the porch and front entry, so bring your own repellant and apply before walking to the door. Victoria has some there as you enter, but by then it can be too late! Second, the mattresses are quite soft in the twin beds downstairs, only an issue if you insist on firm. Third, as stated in the ad, one car only. Street parking requires a permit after 1 hour, and the driveway is for one vehicle only.
You will not be disappointed in any way here!

An excellent choice.

Our first visit to Charleston - and we will be back. The carriage house is beautiful; full of character, comfortable, spotless, and extremely tasteful. I would happily take most of the artwork home! (Fellow Brits - it's a farrow and ball dream.. ) The location is great - just on the edge of the historic area (10 minutes walk to Market Place, 15 minutes to Broad Street) but quiet too. A pleasantly studenty area, rather than too chic. Very close to excellent historic Aiken Rhett House, and quick walk to the dock for harbour tours. We ate extremely well at Magnolias, Slightly North of Broad and Amen Fish restaurant, all on East Bay. All of us (including 13 and 8 year old daughters) loved our visit.

A Magical Month in "Our" Cozy Abode

A Magical Month in "Our" Cozy Abode

Words sometimes don't accurately convey a rental listing. This was no exception: the description failed to completely reveal the utter charm of this property. Besides being perfectly appointed with an eye towards cottage chic interior design with original artwork throughout, there were few details that went unnoticed: from insect repellant at our fingertips on the comfortable deck to the high speed WiFI that worked anywhere in the house to the bouquet of flowers upon arrival to the French press coffee maker to the Egyptian cotton linens to the dual level thermostats -- every element transformed our stay to a welcoming quality respite. Besides the incredible location (we logged over 125 miles on our pedometer during our stay) and the fantastic meals and libations in this "Holy City"(we dined at over 40 restaurants) we could not imagine a more perfect month. Although not a large place, this is a perfect example when LESS IS MORE! We were not wanting for anything and in fact, upon returning home, we're wondering why we have so much useless space. Also, our jobs are somewhat portable so we continued to work through the power of the Internet -- this change of scenery enabled us to spend some quality time together, working side-by-side each day. Our hosts were beyond speedy with any inquiry, both in advance of our arrival and throughout our stay. A question regarding a vechicle in "our" parking spot was quickly reconciled (plus, two parking passes were on the kitchen table in the event we had visitors (and, we did!)). A question about falling autumn leaves (nicely landscaped courtyard with working fountain) was handled by the owner blowing them within hours of the inquiry (we would have gladly removed them). Everything was in perfect working order. Our only reservation about recommending this property is that it might not be available for our return visit! It is a GEM! Our favorite activities included: cycling across the Ravenel Bridge (we rented bicycles), enjoying Thanksgiving at Middleton Place, learning about the rice trade at Magnolia plantation, visiting the Edmondston-Alston House on the Battery, and touring the beach by mopeds on the Isle of Palms and Sullivans Island. Favorite drinking spots include: the Rarebit, McCrady's, and The Ordinary. Best meals: Five Loaves Cafe & Eli's Table. Best waitstaff with attitude: Martha Lou's Kitchen. Best memory - enjoying the company of our C of C senior who visited for home-cooked meals!

Springtime in Charleston Sure Beats mud Season in Vermont

Perfect place for two visitors. Kitchen is very well equipped, and the living room is quite comfortable. Better TV than we have at home. Wifi is very strong. Location is convenient for exploring the city, but it is far from being an exclusive neighborhood. As houses on both sides were being rehabed there was daily construction/contractor noise; but the traffic/motorcycle noise from East Bay Street was sometimes actually unpleasant if you spend time on the deck. There is a bird in the gorgeous orange tree over the deck that PERFECTLY mimics a car alarm - pretty hilarious. If you are driving, bring your own pillows - the ones provided were new during the Ford administration. Always valued in Charleston, the parking space was appreciated. We judge that the price is appropriate for what you get, and the unit is nicely maintained.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay & found our house so well equipped & well maintained. I regret that you did not let me know you were not happy with the pillows , I would gladly have changed them, pillow preferences are so personal that i try to have fat & thin pillows,so everyone will find something thats comfortable for them.Sorry about the refurbishing our neighbors are doing ,i am sure it will be complete soon.I hope you will come back to see us & enjoy birdsong & orange blossom under the tree again. Thanks .

Bucket List Favorite!

  • 5 of 5
Absolutely lovely property that is well situated to not only walking to the market place and other sites in Charleston, but also driving to outlaying islands and cities. The private courtyard makes this property extra special and allowed us to eat outside, enjoying either sun or shade. One of the best properties we have ever stayed at. I highly recommend couples, or even families to take advantage of this well appointed "home". The kitchen even has an orange juice strainer to take advantage of fresh orange juice from the orange tree on the property.
