Villa Anna is in beautiful Apokoronas. White Mountains (2453m), snow capped until late spring, provide a dramatic backdrop to its traditional inland villages of Vamos, Gavalochori, Douliana, Plaka and Kokkino Chorio. The area has retained its character and visitors are drawn to the natural beauty, the people and their way of life. Many have become so enchanted with Apokoronas that they have bought homes, which has boosted the tourist facilities in the area. The seaside resorts of Almyrida (or Almirida) and Kalives are located in Souda Bay. Almyrida once a small fishing village still retains its charm. It is now a thriving seaside resort with traditional tavernas lining its shallow blue flag beach ideal for children. Windsurfing and sailing, walking and bike hire are available for active holidays and beach lounger for sun lovers. Mini markets, baker, patisserie, wine shop and newsagency provide all the basics. Chania, 'most beautiful city on Crete' and Rethymnon are within easy reach

Further details for this vacation rental in Almirida, Greece

Villa Anna - Aspro: Villa Anna is in a small development of new houses overlooking the village of Aspro. Stone and colours sympathetic to the village make the houses blend in; the houses are at different levels echoing tradition thereby affording all houses excellent views. All garden walls are of local stone and the gardens are planted with Mediterranean plants. Villa Anna is front line so has panoramic views of Aspro Village to Souda Bay, the White Mountains and olive groves. 3 balconies, an arched stone entrance terrace and large stone patio, provide plenty of space for sunbathing, BBQs and alfresco dining. The 40m2 swimming pool has surrounding stone walls and is only a few steps away from Villa Anna. All around are olive trees with old agricultural road ideal for walking among the countryside, leading to neighbouring villages. It is only a short drive to the sandy beach in Almyrida (2 km) so is an ideal location for beach or walking holidays. Lovely Chania is only 30 mins away.

Guest Comments Henrick & Brigitte, Denmark July09: Hi Mary, We were all very pleased and happily surprised when arriving to villa Anna!!! Everything lived up to- and far more than our expectations. You sure do have your own little castle up there in Aspro! We all enjoyed the beach in Almyrida very much, and the boys enjoyed staying in the pool for as many hours possible. (They almost developed fish scale ;-) We can’t really contribute with anything of importance on how to improve anything in your villa, or with the booking process. We both feel the booking process and correspondence we’ve had with you went as smoothly as thinkable possible, and as mentioned – everything met OUR expectations 110%. The service Pam & Derick gave was just perfect. Whenever they had been there, we felt like coming back to fresh cleaned hotel suite. Fresh linen, towels etc. – nice With big hopes of a future opportunity to rent your little castle again someday, perhaps in two year’s time or so.

Guest Book Comments Susan, UK Aug 09: Hello Mary, We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Anna. I particularly liked the elevated position and the fact that the patio area was so private. We really enjoyed our evening meals in Gavalochori. My daughter and her friend loved the house and said it was like staying in a hotel - they made good use of their private balcony. The house was really well equipped with great attention to detail. I cannot think of any way you could improve on Villa Anna!

Quiet hideaway

Suzik London, England
Review Submitted: June 25, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We enjoyed our stay at Villa Anna in its secluded location at the top of Aspro, a village nestled in the hills just a kilometer and a half from the sea
The town nearby has taxi service should you not want to drive
With an entrance and balcony built in traditional stone the house has charm, it also helps keep the area cool to enjoy sitting in its shade outside for a meal or just chatting. Of course you could sit in the sun and use the umbrella and loungers which are also provided, with fantastic sea views to enjoy. Near by you will find the BBQ should you feel incline to cook one evening, which will makes a nice change
It has its own private area for sunning and a pool nearby to dip in when not at the beach, also a shower near the pool
The owner has furnished and equipped the spacious interior to a high standard, which is also air-conditioned both in the living room area and in the bedrooms
There are two bedrooms and two baths one with a shower and the other with a tub, a sofa which can accommodate an extra person or two so plenty of sleeping space
Five minutes away is the lively beach village of Almyrida; a little further in the
other direction traditional Crete. Villa Anna is the perfect base for a comfortable
relaxing holiday in this beautiful part of Crete. Plenty of shops and restaurants in town or a short drive to Kalives for a change of scenery
The beach is sandy and has some trees with a gentle slope to the water making it safe for children and the water is clean and clear, with lifeguard on duty during the day
It is also close to Chania so you can visit and see other sights
all in all a perfect introduction to Crete and it's friendly people
Owner's Response: Thanks Suzi and the gang for confirming that the facilities in Villa Anna and the surrounding area are as described on the website. I have done my best to anticipate guest’s needs to make the villa a home away from home and I know you appreciated it. I'm glad you enjoyed the hols and thanks for being such good guests. Mary

Family Summer Holiday at Villa Anna.

Sophy & Pod London
Review Submitted: September 23, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We are a family of four and are happy to report that we all had a lovely holiday at Villa Anna this August, and would definitely recommend the villa to our friends. The villa was extremely clean, well-equipped and in a very quiet location. It has beautiful views looking out over Souda Bay and an excellent view of the pool (to keep an eye on the children). As Aspro is up an incredibly steep hill, it was good that we had a car with us and were able to drive up with heavy shopping from the supermarket in Almirida! The neighbours are quiet and friendly, but most of the time we were the only ones around the cluster of villas - this was fine for us, but some teenagers may prefer a more 'lively' environment where they can make new friends.

The beach at Almirida Bay is clean and shallow, with the occasional day of decent waves which was great fun. The snorkelling trip from the bay was amazing (be ready to swim to a cave/house with your flip-flops from the boat!). The town of Hania is very pretty, and is a lovely place to eat and shop (leather gladiator sandals for under £15!!). Driving across the mountains to Hora Stakion and Frangokastello, along the Imbros Gorge (the kids didn't feel they could manage the walk!), only took a few of hours and (as a geologist) was great - lots of rocks to look at with long sandy beaches at the end!

The fresh water lake at Kournos was beautiful and well worth the pedalo ride/swim out into the middle, where there is a deep drop - due to a fault line underneath. There is also a taverna overlooking the water, from where we could watch our children swimming in the shallow water while enjoying a cool beer. There are many archeological sites on Crete and we thought that the site at Aptera was more interesting than the famous Knossos, as none of the buildings have been 'renovated'. (We would not recommend the 2 hour drive to the caves at Meladoni, which were a big disappointment.)

The owner Mary was very helpful and provided an excellent customer service - she was happy to answer any questions and also made booking/paying for the villa very easy over the internet. Derrick & Pam who maintain the property in Crete were professional and friendly, and regularly provided us with beach & bath towels, which made our luggage much lighter! However, be prepared to take all rubbish to the local bins down the road (including toilet paper), this is also when a car is useful.

Overall, we had a great holiday - thank you Mary!
Owner's Response: Thank you Sophy & Pod for taking the time to give such an extensive review. I'm delighted you all enjoyed Villa Anna; that all was as promised and as usual the cleanliness etc. were to Pam and Derick's high standards. The great views do come at the expense of hills so a car is recommended. I'm glad to say that recycling is now available which Pam and Derick take away and this cuts back on trips to the bins.

Aspro roads are now surfaced and street lights have been installed which makes it easier to reach Villa Anna. There are also plans for musical evening in Aspro village next year in a beautiful new stone terraced area which is currently under construction. Watch out of updates. Thanks again for choosing Villa Anna and hope you will visit again. Best regards, Mary

Villa Anna Aspro

Tony & Andrea York England
Review Submitted: October 21, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
Villa Anna is a lovely, clean and well maintained modern villa set in peaceful location. We felt that the property description and details were accurate and that the owner was extremely helpful with arranging our stay. We explored some of the White Mountains; climbing Gingilos 2080m and Melindaou 2133m. We also enjoyed walking down the Samaria Gorge and completing a circular coastal walk to Loutro. Of course we also explored the immediate area; the beach and Tavernas at Almyrida and some of the local villages. We chatted by the shared pool with the neighbours and were very pleased to be invited to their BBQ. We also spent an interesting day exploring the old town and harbour in Chania. We would highly reccommend a visit to Villa Anna.
Owner's Response: Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Villa Anna and Crete.

In your two weeks holidays you really did experience the best of what Western Crete has to offer; from climbing mountains to the beach and tavernas; traditional villages and lovely Chania; to the friendliness of my neighbours. I’m delighted you enjoyed your holiday. With thanks for your kind words. Mary
