Photos and Description of the Delwood Beach vacation house rental
House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

THE SETTING: “Fiddler’s Green” is a uniquely romantic and beautiful beach house on 2 private acres with an oyster shell drive. It was built in 1961 and totally renovated in 2005. The property has dozens of huge trees and 800 feet of private bay front and bayou shoreline. The house sits amidst pines, magnolias, and oak trees hung with Spanish moss. St. Andrews Bay is about a mile wide at this point and naval vessels and commercial shipping are commonly seen going in and out of the bay, providing an enjoyable spectacle. The wildlife is similarly interesting, with the bay attracting many birds including egrets, herons, pelicans and the like. Dolphins occasionally swim up under the dock.

A long thin spit of uninhabited land provides a nice morning beach walk and divides the bay from the bayou; it is home to a species of small deer. The bayou is usually inhabited by an alligator who keeps the fish jumping. (Fishermen are especially fond of this area!) Morning sunrises are spectacular across the bay and in the evening the twinkling lights of St. Andrews create a fairyland view from the house as well as the dock.

THE HOUSE: Is beautifully decorated with antiques and art and is extremely comfortable. The large and fully equipped kitchen has a copper-topped bar open to the water view and to the large central living space which comfortably accommodates all sorts of activities: dining, reading, conversation, TV, fireplace, projects and games. It faces a window wall featuring a 180-degree panoramic view of St. Andrews Bay, providing a constantly changing scene of wildlife and boating activities. There are three bedrooms each with its own bath. Two have queen-sized beds and bay windows with window seats and gorgeous views. The third has extra-long twin beds which are usually combined for one king-sized bed. The master bath offers two separate sinks, enclosed toilet room with bidet feature, claw-foot tub, separate stall shower, and walk-in closet. Other rooms include a private office off the kitchen with his and her desks and a laundry room.

CHILDREN: Are welcome at Fiddler’s Green. The beach abounds with fiddler crabs and hermit crabs which children typically delight in observing or capturing for play. There is a swing that is set among the pines with long, long chains, for a long smooth ride. It is convertible for toddlers’ use. There is a portable crib available for infants in the linen closet.

THE BAY and THE DOCKS: The long dock allows for boating but is also a perfect outdoor room for morning coffee and the sunrise or evening cocktails under the stars with a cooling breeze. There are 4 swivel-tilt chairs to allow you to follow the clouds and the wildlife. There is another small dock on the bayou useful for jet skis, canoes, kayaks or small fishing boats. Because tides are variable and can be quite low, the boat you rent or bring needs to have a shallow draw. For a group, pontoon boats work well and are easily rentable at several nearby boat rental facilities; St. Andrews Marina is directly across the bay and provides boat services and gas.

OUR RESTRICTIONS: We will allow only one well-trained small (less than 20 pounds) dog or cat, neither of whom would scratch or dirty the furniture. A pet deposit of $300 is required. It will be refunded upon inspection after the guest leaves. We strictly limit the number of overnight guests to 6.

WHAT’S NEARBY: There are two highly rated golf courses within two miles of the house and the nearby Wyndham Bay Point Resort also offers tennis, a spa, restaurants and various other services. St. Andrews State Park is renowned as having “one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.” It is set in the midst of a beautiful 1100 acre wildlife sanctuary. It is only a short drive away as are numerous restaurants including the famous Captain Anderson’s, that offers ferryboat rides to Shell Island and dinner cruises as well as a delicious menu.

Keywords: pet friendly, private, boat friendly, oak trees, Spanish moss, child friendly, jet ski, wonderful fishing, bird watching, antiques, beautiful furnishings, spacious house and grounds.

About The Owner

We are a long married couple with 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Boyd is a Radiologist who is semi-retired. His avocation concerns ancestral health, the Paleolithic diet and lifestyle and how it relates to health promotion and disease prevention. He is a 'health nut' who works out every day. Boyd is originally from the state of Maine, to which they return every summer to spend time with children and grandchildren, the lake and the loons.

Many of Daphne's interests remain in the decorating field --doing projects for friends and family and especially arranging flowers for church and friends. She is an avid reader and duplicate bridge player who works out with Boyd, but does it kicking and screaming.

--

The Owner purchased this house in 1998
Why The Owner chose Delwood Beach

Daphne and Boyd bought the house from the estate after her parents' deaths because they could not bear to sell a place with so many wonderful memories attached! The house was designed and built by her parents in the early 1960's primarily because they loved sailing and so they always kept a sailboat there. Her father (a physician) was a talented amateur architect and her mother was an artist. The unique design of the house is a testimony to their joint creativity. Their lifelong love affair is celebrated in a mosaic tile table in the living area that they designed and personally made. In it are embedded symbols that translate into: 'man + woman = infinity.'

What makes this house unique

We love the solitude and privacy of Fiddler's Green for reading, study, and hobbies while enjoying the wildlife and the ever-changing scene on the bay. We love the friendships that have grown from the fact that it is so easy to be with other people in this house --there are places to do things as a group or by oneself and still be nearby, in view and in earshot, and always enjoying the view. There is a table for puzzles or projects, a table for bridge or backgammon, a wonderful lazy Susan table for dining, and at least 4 places with good light for reading. The kitchen is wonderfully equipped for one who enjoys cooking and the fact that it is open to the great room means the cook is part of the conversation!

Wonderful Family Vacation

My husband and I brought his parents and my mom and aunt, to this wonderful place for a much needed vacation. We enjoyed ourselves more than we ever imagined. The house is even more beautiful than the pictures and the views are breathtaking. We wanted to take them out to eat and to a few attractions but they didn't want to leave the house. We could have stayed there the whole five days without leaving it is so spectacular. Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise with us.

Just Awesome --We like to mix it up... My high school kids wanted to be in PCB- I thought I'd rather die! but we were so impressed, we are coming back for a second year. This is a great home. Fishing, swimming with dolphin, the beach is 12 minutes, great views, great views and wonderful views!
Call for a pontoon for the week, you can dock at either dock (yes two docks) - travel to meals by boat, the guest home and property manager is great, another asset. I cant say enough good things about this wonderful home and grounds. Enjoy it while you can!

We definitely enjoyed our stay at Fiddler's Green! We went on a family trip to do some fishing at Capt Anderson's. It's so close to Capt Anderson's (like 5 minutes away) that getting there early wasn't a problem. We were able to do some fishing off their 2 piers as well (its better during high tide, very shallow during low tide) and you can see fish jumping periodically especially near the smaller dock. Sunset/Sunrise was just beautiful and Maria, the property manager who lives next door couldn't be more helpful! Will return the next time we're in PCB!

Our stay at Fiddler's Green was absolutely perfect. The house is surrounded by water- a lagoon on one side and the bay right in front. Panoramic windows let you see all water from the house. Just spectacular! After a long day at the beach it was so nice to have a private retreat to return to. You can not see any other houses once inside- only lots and lots of wonderful water! And did I mention the dock?? Cocktails at dusk watching the sun set. JUST PERFECT!

Suffice it to stay, as long as this house is vacant, I will never stay anywhere else!

Anniversary Celebration

5 of 5
Submitted: June 25, 2012 Stayed: June 2012
From the moment we turned in the entrance and made our way down that oyster shell drive, we felt like we had arrived in paradise!! What a perfect place for our family to gather to celebrate our wedding anniversary. My sister and I married in a double wedding 38 years ago and we all wanted to find a special place to celebrate this occasion together this year. We couldn't have been more pleased and delighted with our stay at Fiddler's Green!
The house is beautifully decorated with art and fine antiques. The living area is the perfect gathering place for family and friends with it's many comfortable seating and eating areas. The view across the bay is spectacular from the beautiful floor to ceiling windows across the back of the house.
The bedrooms are all cozy and welcoming with comfortable beds, nice linens, and spacious closets. All of the bathrooms are beautiful and well stocked with plenty of bath towels, soap, and nice toiletries, not usually found in rental homes.
The kitchen is a cook's delight! We had absolutely everything we needed and more! We have stayed in many rental homes over the past 14 years and have never stayed in one that is as well stocked as Fiddler's Green.
We all enjoyed the beautiful yard and wonderful dock on the bay. What a great place to enjoy all the wildlife that abounds in St. Andrews Bay! My grandsons loved the swing in the yard. The cool breezes off the bay and the large shade trees made it a perfect place to relax.
Fiddler's Green is a real jewel and we are already planning a return trip!
Thanks for sharing this wonderful home!
