During the day you may wish to explore the artist colony of Mendocino, a charming town with plenty of gourmet dining, art galleries and interesting boutique shops. Unwind, relax and bask in the elements....
...It's your vacation and we have the place for you to stay.
The awe-inspiring environment makes this an ideal retreat for any couple and their family. The Friederichs' Beach House is unique; beautifully finished with redwood, oak and cedar. It is lovingly designed and maintained with attention to comfort and detail. You'll find all the necessities and more in one of the finest get-aways on the Mendocino Coast.
Simply bring your own food, sheets and towels. Before you leave we ask that you clean the house for the next guests, an act of courtesy that we can all appreciate.
HOT TUB IS IN, CARE ARE OUT
Soak your cares away--if you have any left. Just lay there in the hot soothing water listening to the birds and the breakers--watching the fiery red sun dip into the ocean with the expanding glow of evening settling in. Don't get out yet--the first stars are waiting to blink back at you and tell you that there is more to life than just you and me. The Milky Way will greet you then and draw you into its majesty. All your cares seem so small compared to the infinite universe.
Three decorated, spacious and comforable bedrooms plus a large loft for the kids that want to stay up all night. All the bedrooms have queen-size beds. The loft is equipped with floor mattresses suitable for sleeping bags. Bring your own sheets, towels and sleeping bags.
Conveniences for a gracious vacation living include a full stove and oven, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, toaster oven, coffee maker, Belgian waffle maker, glassware, silverware, pots, pans, BBQ tools, spices and condiments. Home heating is by a gas furnace or wood stove (your choice).
Entertainment and soothing music provided by a DVD/CD/VCR player. There are plenty of DVD's to view and books to read. There is NO television, cable or streaming internet service available.
Relax on the deck overlooking the Pacific featuring, deck chairs, chaise lounges and a hot water spa.
...A stunning and magical home that will always hold a treasured place in our memories.
A LITTLE FISHING MAYBE...
Life can be wonderful especially if you love to fish. Cabezone, salmon, steelhead, ling cod, rockfish of all kinds, sea bass and other superb fish are here waiting for your hook. One guest caught 125 fish during a one-week stay. Surf perch await a hooked sand crab to persuade it out of the water. Rockfish love a piece of squid on a #1 hook with a two ounce weight. They are waiting for you in those big deep pools below the house during low tide. Abalone are located there too, but they are a little more elusive to find. Some have good luck rock picking; others don dive gear and pluck them from the bottom. Scuba diving for fun, photos or spear-fishing is a great way to observe the beauty of the underwater world and bring home the bacon at the same time.
WHAT ABOUT THE KIDS?
KIDS! How about poking your finger in a giant, light green, squishy sea anemone, or trying to pick up a hermit crab without getting bit, or playing 'tag you're it' with the waves on the beach. Okay, if I'm a kid I may--no I will--get wet and covered with sand, but that's what I like. How about soccer, football, volleyball, kite-flying, chasing your sister, climbing the rocks and doing somersaults? Teenagers and young adults--talk to your friends on long walks down the beach and back. The beach never ends! What about a trip to the Point Arena Lighthouse, preserve or wild animal park or a stroll through the shops in Elk or Mendocino?

Brad is a structural engineer in the Sacramento area. We enjoy walks along the creeks, talking and doing many things together
Paula Friederichs purchased this house in 1999
I, Brad, am in my sixty's now but have been coming here since I was 16 with my family. My dad first brought us here to go skin diving for abalone. We spent many times in a campground with a trailer braving the elements until 1984 when my parents built the house with their own hands. It was a project that went on for six years. My parents are really proud of their accomplishment.
The beach is 1/3 mile walk from the house. You can drive or walk. The view from the house or deck is exquisite. You don't have to go anywhere. Movies and books are here so you can kick back and do nothing. Driving to Mendocino or Elk to shop and eat is a favorite.
We had the honor of staying at Brad and Paula's beach house for an adult weekend getaway, and I must say it was nothing less than perfect! It was clean and the kitchen was stocked with everything you need. I was bummed out because I forgot to bring my Apples to Apples game, but was so excited that they had it in their stockpile of games to play. We enjoyed time at Irish Beach with the private pass card that is provided. The hot tub at night under the stars was breath taking and relaxing. We barbequed both nights and was able to build a couple of small fires in the fire stove. I just can't put into words what a great time we all had. I can't remember the last time I've laughed so hard with friends and being in such a great environment was the icing on the cake. They have the house at a very reasonable price. We will be making reservations with them again :)
We came from CT to visit my daughter (who lives in Northern Cali) for my wife's 50th birthday. Since my wife loves the ocean, my kids and I surprised her with a couple of nights at the ocean house. We chose this house primarily based on the view and the fact that it had lots of room for the 6 of us. We were not disappointed! The view is spectacular and there was plenty of room (and bathrooms!) for everyone. My wife was so overjoyed that she started crying immediately (women!). We had planned to go into neighboring towns for dinner and sightseeing but decided that we didn't want to leave the house! I made the sacrifice of leaving a couple of times to go to the store (literally 5 minutes away) for food. The store is probably the only one around for many miles and has EVERYTHING you could want. Not that we needed anything except for food: the house is stocked with not just the necessities but many other things that come in very handy (sewing kit, night lights, binoculars, etc, etc.) We were having such a great time that we rented it for a 3rd night. The only negative was that we eventually had to leave and go back to the real world, ugh!
The house was well maintained, well stocked and in a great location. The views from the hot tub made it hard to leave.
This home is absolutely beautiful! It was very clean, well furnished and nicely decorated, the kitchen has everything you'd ever need. And the views are breathtaking! The private beach access was an added surprise. The pictures of this property do not do it justice, it has to be seen to really appreciate. We loved the idea of no cleaning charge! Its easy to clean up after yourself. The movie selection was extensive and surprisingly up to date. After our visit we have vowed to come back every year!!
We had a great time in your vacation house. 3 families thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay. Ocean view from living room was exceptional and view from patio with a morning coffee was priceless for me personally. We enjoyed it so much that we are thinking about repeat trip in month of August. I will check your house calendar and book accordingly. Thanks again.
My family really enjoyed our stay at this home. There were eight of us, six adults and two young adults and the home provided us ample space and felt very relaxed and comfortable. The home seems to have been built with a lot of care and has a lot of nice touches, quality fixtures and beautiful views from each room including the bedrooms. We enjoyed the hot tub and watching movies, walks on Irish Beach and visiting some of the local attractions. Of the latter there was enough variety to give everyone something they could enjoy. Various members of our group went on a whale watching tour, took a hike in a Redwood forest, did some ocean fishing, shopping in and visiting a garden in Mendocino , and bird watchingto mention some of the actiities we enjoyed. The owners were very helpful as we planned our trip and in responsive anytime we had any questions or concerns..
