Enjoy the great yard to unwind and play lawn games or volleyball. Cook on the BBQ and finish up with a campfire and s'mores. The grounds are a great place for birdwatching as well-the perennial gardens attract many species and it is not unusual to see hummingbirds flitting about. Use the house as a base to explore the many nearby diversions in Keene & Brattleboro. Seasonally, you will find fireworks displays, car & motocross racing, county fairs, gallery walks, wine & beer festivals, live entertainment at the Colonial theater and outdoor venues, as well as the Keene pumpkin festival. There are many choices for pick-your-own farms & orchards. Winter sports are all available locally, with major ski resorts within 35 miles.
The house itself is a lovingly furnished backdrop to all these activites. The large, country kitchen seats 10 for dinner, with an additional 5 bar stools in close proximity. It is a perfect place for lengthy dinners, conversations, and board games. The family room and sunroom share a double fireplace and the many windows make them an inviting place to curl up with a book or music and relax, whatever the weather. The bedrooms are comfy, country furnished rooms, where you are sure to get a good night's sleep. There are three private rooms, the master featuring a California king size bed and private bath. Both other bedrooms have queen beds. The third bedroom is our 'family suite' with a staircase to the loft, where there are two double beds. One warning-there are no TVs in the bedrooms. We have been vacationing in the area for over 20 years, and previously owned a cottage on nearby Spofford Lake. Our dream was to buy a property with acreage, and enjoy the benefits of country living. We love to entertain here, and have created a warm and welcoming home that we delight in sharing with others. We are happy to advise you on local activities and make recommendations to make your stay a memorable experience.
The Owner purchased this chateau / country house in 2009
We love this area of NH for many reasons, starting with easy access from the highway. Southern NH provides visitors with a lifestyle much different than the hustle and bustle of the city, without the inconvenient travel. Nearby Spofford Lake has been rated one of the cleanest in NH, and provides a variety of water sports & beach activites. Proximity to local trails and a 5 minute drive to the largest state park in NH are other benefits of our location.
Half-way between Keene, NH & Brattleboro, VT, we are perfectly situated to enjoy the activities offered by both areas. Local farmer's markets provide an abundance of fresh & unusual produce for family dinners, while ecclectic restaurants in both Keene & Brattleboro offer interesting dining choices for every palate. Antiquing in quaint New England towns, visiting local wineries, breweries, shops, and farmstands provide a contrast to the many excercise-based outdoor activites.
Thank you so much or sharing with us your beautiful home. We enjoyed our time here very much. Nothing can quite compare to sitting on your porch and enjoying the lovely view. We certainly can see why you would choose this location for a vacation home. All were impressed by the picturesque setting & and all the beautiful appointments your home offers. We have had a very memorable trip and look forward to returning to the area again soon.
We rented this charming home to host a family reunion and attend my husbands boarding school reunion in Vermont. What an absolutely breathtaking spot. The views to the adjacent hills during leaf peeping were spectacular and the home is set up to entertain beautifully. The owners were tremendously helpful in suggesting appropriate activities for our young family. The 1780 Farm is an absolute must with the kids as well as apple picking at Alyson's Orchard. The location is great for getting into Keene for supplies but close to the Vermont border for venturing west. We ranged in age from 4 to 76 and all had a most memorable time. Do not hesitate to book this home, you will not regret it!
We traveled to Westmoreland, NH for a wedding and had an incredible opportunity to vacation at this exclusive location. Our stay exceeded all expectations. A wonderful and spacious home with fascinating architectural details and high end furnishings. It is quite large yet cozy. The three floors allow for privacy if needed and there was no waiting for bathrooms given the 3.5 baths.
We hosted the wedding party and family for a traditional New England seafood dinner. The kitchen was more than adequately stocked with the necessities required to make hosting dinner an enjoyable experience that only entailed stocking a refrigerator from the local market. We appreciated an amazing view of the colorful leaves of fall with unseasonably warm September weather that led to naps in the hammock by the flower garden. Early morning coffee in the swing on the front porch brought mist over the mountains and deer grazing in the field. Lunch was filled with fun and games on the lawn, bird watching and taking pictures. Dinner brought everyone together at the same table to enjoy family time and sunset was the perfect opportunity for a dip in the hot tub. Some nights were filled with star gazing through a high powered telescope and other nights we would wind the antique phonograph and take in the sounds of long ago.
Each room in the home is a unique and comfortable destination. With a room full of windows for reading to a cozy place in front of the dual fireplace, down to the relaxing wrap around couch and big screen TV. We did not miss our chance to play darts or catch a game of cards before bed. Each night we snuggled in the comfort of the beds wrapped in soft sheets and comforters. Extra pillows in the closet and beautiful quilts stacked neatly in the hall cupboard for the nights we needed just a little extra warmth. There were certainly more than enough towels and sheets provided for our entire stay. All of our needs were met from wireless access and cable television to books and games we could play.
On our last night we built a camp fire and enjoyed the peace and quiet you cannot seem to find in the city. It was a pleasure to deal with the owner, she was available before and during the stay and gave excellent directions to the home and useful area information.
We have already recommended this vacation home to friends and family that plan to visit the area in the coming months. We are excited to plan our return to this amazing family getaway.
What a lovely home! We were so thrilled to stay here for our skiing vacation ... plenty of room for the kids and friends (the loft bedroom was a big hit with our girls!)
The location was perfect! (Easy drive to several ski areas - we were at Stratton in VT- and convenient to I-91) The decor is relaxing and comfortable, and just begs you to gather around the huge fireplace at the end of a winter outing ... or the hot tub, which was equally great! Having every ammenity we could have needed meant more time to relax and gather with friends. Thanks for a terrific stay! We will be back!!
We were very lucky to secure this wonderful home for a family wedding in the district. 10 of us travelled from Australia to this destination which provided a lovely retreat. The house is tastefully furnished & very comfortable. The outside porch, rocking chairs and spa just added to the overall experience.
All mod cons were available which made relaxing & entertaining very easy.
We are french and we came especially from Paris to spend one week in the house and to celebrate the 80th birthday of my Mum.
We had a marvellous time in the house. It's a wonderfull house, in a very peacefull area.
Well furnished and equipped, it's an house where you can relax and have the most beautifull vacations
We had a great time away from the city at this beautiful country home. Mountain peaks surround the house and the views are breath-taking. The house is situated on a hill, surrounded by fields which are populated by birdhouses and invite various forms of wildlife (deer, wild-turkey, etc). We ended every night in the whirlpool under the starry New England sky.
The home is clean and the interior decor is tasteful. The grounds were well-maintained and the house is only a short drive from the beautiful Spofford Lake, which is a must see. We had many questions, all of which the owners were happy to answer. Well worth the price!
