I grew up spending weekends and summers in this house, retreating from the urban demands of San Francisco. I have had the chance to raise my own children in this timeless place. Inverness remains a magical place that I hope will always be a place where I can retreat and unwind.
The Owner purchased this cabin in 1963
This is a second generation family vacation cabin. With all the fabulous memories and the continued attraction to the area, we want to keep this treasure in the family.
Staying at this house has always meant a slower pace of life. There is deliberately no TV or internet at the house. There are book, board games and sports equipment. It is truly a place to take a time out from the fast pace and constant accessibility of our lives today. TV and internet are available nearby but the need to be intentional about accessing them keeps me honest about truly being on vacation. Tennis courts and Tomales Bay are within 2 blocks of the house. Foot paths in the area provide easy access to all of Inverness. Nearby hiking trails and fire roads offer even more choices for encounters with nature and spectacular vistas.
We had a fantastic time at the cabin. It's kind of perfect in every way. Loved the deck, your decorations, the hammock. We'd really like to visit again some time. Thanks for everything!
A perfect get away! Our family enjoyed every moment of our time at the Dodge Cabin. We love being off the grid, we love the 70s feel of the cabin, and all of the personal touches. The deck was glorious and the fireplace a an essential touch. We highly recommend renting the additional cabin as well, it was nice for the younger ones to have their own space. The owners were super helpful and we felt well tended for. We will be back!!!
We really enjoyed this cozy, casual cabin--felt right at home. The large deck was a delightful place to sit in the sunshine and eat meals. I loved the old-fashioned feel which reminded me of my grandma's old beach house, and appreciated the absence of television and wifi. Our only wish was that there were a couple of "papa bear" chairs by the fireplace-- as that would have really added to the coziness when the sun went down and the chill set in.
The owners are lovely and friendly.
Ventured up to Inverness to attend a wedding and made a great Labor Day weekend out of it - we enjoyed the property location, escape from city life, and great proximity to Point Reyes, downtown Inverness and Stinson. Wit 2 sleeping areas, it was easy for the 5 of us to spread out - especially helpful for me to bring my dog, she enjoyed the house/yard and the natural surroundings! A great low-tech, high outdoor time weekend - would definitely rent again!
My husband, myself and our 3 young boys stayed in the main cabin for 2 nights, 3 days. The grounds are pretty and the neighborhood very quiet. There is a hammock and games for the outside, which the boys loved! And games and books to read inside the cabin, also very useful! The cabin is simple and has it quirks, but nothing that is deal breaking, as long as you expect simple. There is one bathroom, 2 big bedrooms, a nice living room with chairs (no couch) and a long kitchen. The fireplace does get smokey when you try to start a fire, but the owners are aware of this and give you some tips to minimize the smoke. It helped us when we pushed the logs all the way in the back of the fireplace. Without our realizing it, we left one of our kid's stuffed animals. A few days after we left, the owner contacted us about the animal and mailed it to us, on her dime. VERY thoughtful! The location is about 30 minutes from the Pt. Reyes Lighthouse and 7 or so minutes from Tomales State Park, both worth visiting. Overall a pleasant experience.
This cabin is decorated with personal photos and momentos throughout, making the experience very welcoming and homey. Interesting books, especially on local subjects are provided, as are games. It is located down a steep driveway, but a car is necessary in this area anyway. Note that the bathroom features a shower, but no bathtub.
As a child, I spent some marvelous days in a cabin like this one in Inverness. We decided to choose this property, hoping it would offer us a similar experience. It did, though we found the beds in this cabin far better than the old ones we grew up with. They're nice and some have very comfortable toppers. It's a charming little place filled with old pictures of boats, the area, family adventures, and more. The detached unit is very nicely fixed up to sleep four, the outdoor porch spacious, and the location for people wanting to walk around Inverness is perfect. I recommend this cabin for those who are looking for a more "rustic" experience and who want to enjoy Inverness in a way that it has been enjoyed by families for years. Be prepared for a super steep driveway to get down to the cabin. We'll be back!
