A beautiful house for an exotic beach vacation -best location of any El Salvador VRBO
We (three guys in their 30s) spent 11 days at this house for a beach vacation and as a base to explore El Salvador without a car. I'd strongly recommend this property for anyone looking to do the same. Highlights include a caretaker (Sergio) who is always there when you need him but otherwise provides privacy. He lives with his wife and sons in a small house just inside the gate on the lot. His dog, Foci, provided amazing security, helping us to save a pair of $90 sandals two local kids attempted to steal from the beach steps. The landscaping of the property is beyond exceptional. We found far less insects (no-see-um, mosquitos, wasps) at this property than in other places we've stayed in Central America. The Pacific breeze made air conditioning unnecessary except when sleeping at night. The house is very close to the bus route for cheap trips to other local beaches (go to Playa Tunco right away so you're aware of the amenities there) and to La Libertad for only 25 cents. From La Libertad, it's easy to take a bus for 60 cents to Santa Tecla or San Salvador and connect with routes around the country. We also used a taxi driver (Fausto) who was suggested by Sergio for airport transportation and for full day tours to some more distant places -a real value with multiple people!
Our initial concern was with security given the crime statistics for the country. However, having traveled throughout Central America, we found El Salvador to very safe with very few touts, panhandlers, con men, bribery, or thieves (except for the young sandal thieves mentioned previously).
If you need access to WiFi, Linda the caretaker, will provide you with a USB key to receive cellular WiFi. THERE IS NO BROADCAST WIFI. That wasn't explained to us and we went with iPads and smart phones (which don't have USB ports) rather than laptops (which do) and we were out of luck -forced to pirate an infrequent and weak unprotected WiFi signal from Punta Roca Resort next door.
One towel is provided for each guest and is exchanged every several days. You should bring your own beach towels or plan on buying them while there.
If you plan on cooking, the kitchen has basic pans and utensils but is lacking items such as a colander, tongs, storage bowls, etc.
A box of dog treats and leftovers from your meals for Foci is very much appreciated. An official FIFA soccer ball would make a great gift for Sergio, his sons and the local kids.
