This lovely privately owned detached holiday villa with private pool is situated in the peaceful village of Son Vilar on the outskirts of Es Castell (fishing village) and Mahon (capital), so amenities are close by and also just a short drive to gorgeous beaches. The villa sleeps 2 - 7 in three air conditioned bedrooms (cool or heat). It has a large terrace with barbecue and a further patio, both with tables, chairs, and plenty of sun loungers. It is nicely furnished, fully equipped (including Satellite TV), superbly cleaned and serviced weekly with fresh linen by my local manager. The private pool, which has Roman Steps, is serviced twice weekly by a local specialist manager. Both managers are available at other times should any problems arise. Es Castell has plenty to offer its residents and visitors alike in the way of shopping, restaurants, and nightlife. There are market days twice a week, and the town has its own annual fiesta, the Fiesta de San Jaume, at the end of July. Many of the bars and restaurants are situated around the two coves, Cala Corb, and more especially Cales Fonts, and many are in converted caves around the harbour - a superb atmospheric setting. Many of these caves were believed to have been carved out by the earliest inhabitants around 2500 BC. A turning off the roundabout at the entrance to Es Castell leads to the prehistoric village of Trepuco and just 1Km from Son Vilar. There can be found a massive talyot (conical mound of stones - some have an inside chamber and passage) and taula , (which is unique to Menorca – a huge upright stone slab, supporting another large slab lying horizontally across it). Mystery still surrounds their purpose, and indeed how the got there!

Superb time again

Four of us stayed in this property in June 2008 and had a great time. It was our third visit to the villa and we would undoubtedly consider returning again.
The villa is always clean and well maintained and we have never encountered any problems. It is ideally situated as it a pleasant stroll to either Es Castell or the port of Mahon and the many restaurants/bars that can be found in these locations. The owner provides excellent information about the villa, the surrounding area and the island.
There is no doubt that this villa forms an excellent base and represents excellent value for money.
Air Conditioning in the bedrooms provides a wonderful atmosphere during the hot summer nights and the pool is, of course, very welcome during the day
Overall it is a place well worth visiting if you are considering a holiday in Menorca. Because of its location a car is not essential (although useful) unless you want to explore or visit beaches.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Tourists without a Car, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

Rental Property in Son Villar

I would recommend this property to everybody. It was clean, very well stocked with everything you could need and comfotable, we really felt at home. I know you don't go on holiday to watch television but it was nice to be able to get the English channels and my husband was glued to the match between Manchester United and Barcelona ( although not happy with the result). My daughter and I went shopping in Mahon whilst this was on!! We have stayed in many Villas around this area in Menorca and this was by far the best.
The owner gets 10/10 for customer service a really nice man, friendly and helpful and so keen to make sure that everything was okay.
The Villa was between Mahon, the Capital, good for shopping and eating by the harbour, gazing at all the luxury yachts, and Es castell a lovely village with harbour and our favourite restaurant Dinkums. It is about a 20 /25 minute walk to either of these from the villa.
You need a car to reach the many fantastic beaches in Menorca but as the Island is small it doesn't take long.
We had a really nice week there and hope to return next year all being well.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

We have been to this villa in 2007 & 2008 and would love to go in 2009 but with the credit crunch we probably won't be going in 2009. As a family we have been to Menorca many times and love this beautiful island. As with many families we initially went to Menorca on a package holidays but always wanted to do our " own thing " and by finding this villa, for us, we have hit the jackpot as it ticks all the boxes. The the owner has been extremely thorough, organised and professional with every aspect of hiring this villa from the information about the operation of the villa where everything is and how it works to offering help with car hire, eating out etc. We will hire this villa again without a doubt and I cannot recommend this villa highly enough. You are always wary when you book a particular holiday for the first time but let me put your mind at rest you won't be disappointed.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

Family B's great holiday experience

We have had three fantastic holidays in this villa. The owners send excellent information every year which has always been updated and gives some really useful tips and suggestions. If you like a quiet and relaxing, private sort of holiday this would definitely suit you. The villa is a home from home, with a lovely private pool. It is easy to find and has very comfort you need. It is also very well placed bwteen Mahon and Calas Fonts -two great places to eat and relax. We often walk with the children in and out of the towns -only 20mins each way- and have always felt very safe -even quite late at night. The television and the playstation allow a little extra entertainment for the children leaving you to relax. The transit via car hire is easy and we have never had any problems at all either picking up or dropping off the car. There are so many lovely beaches within easy driving distance that there is never a lack of somewhere to go on the days you decide not to relax by the pool and likewise for some very useful and well stocked supermarkets. We are going back again next year and I know will have many more holidays there in the future. It is ideal if you want a holiday away from the usual holiday crowds but with absolute comfort required. We do not have anything negative to say about this holiday !
