12 years ago, I ventured to Homer, Alaska on a quest to explore the Last Frontier. I was young, eager and fresh out of college searching for a place to call home and plant my feet for awhile. Being a sun-loving surfer chick, I never in my wildest dreams imagined that a place like Alaska could capture my attention for long, or steal my heart. It did. To my amazement, it wasn't just the breathtaking scenery and jaw-dropping views that Homer offered that kept me yearning for more - it was the combination of the remarkable natural beauty with its outstanding community. Having grown up in the suburbs of Pennsylvania, I had never experienced true community the way that I did upon arriving at the end of the road. Since that time, I have adapted my lifestyle in order to maintain a home-base here. As a result of this alternative lifestyle, I have been able to live out many dreams - one of which has been my passion for traveling. The long, dark winter months beckon me to throw some meager belongings into a backpack and hit the jet stream. My travels include destinations such as Africa, India, Colombia, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama and Mexico. And my list is still long. It is my own passion for traveling combined with my love for Homer, Alaska that made me decide to open up my home to other travelers. Besides my love for exploring foreign lands, I also love to garden, hike, cook, and spend time with my beloved dog, Rufus.

NamaStay is located in a spectacularly scenic area of Homer just 6 miles from downtown and the Homer Spit. The proximity to town puts you within 10 minutes of Homer's art galleries and great restaurants, as well as heading out on a fishing charter or kayak trip for the day. The residential neighborhood provides great opportunities for wildlife viewing while relaxing on the deck grilling up your fresh catch of the day. There's also great walking/hiking just out your doorstep.
The view is great and all of your recommendations were amazing. We hiked, fished for halibut and enjoyed the stores and places on the spit. The kids enjoyed Netflix and the parents enjoyed sitting on the deck. The rooms are amazing and very well furnished. We enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to others. Thank you so much for letting us stay here, it is a very nice place.
We loved our stay at Namaste while we were in Homer. We were lucky that it was sunny on our first day at the house, and I'm glad I spent some time sitting on the deck reading a book and enjoying the gorgeous view. It was cloudy and rainy the other days we were there, but we still had a nice time. Even with the fog and clouds, the view was incredible.
As someone else noted, there are other houses near Namaste, but other than when we pulled up to park, I didn't really notice them when I looked outside on the back deck or from the kitchen window.
The kitchen had everything I needed to make dinner a couple nights that we were there. Dinners in restaurants in Alaska can be expensive, so it was nice to be able to make dinner and breakfast for my family of four whenever possible. All the appliances worked great, and I appreciated there being some salt and pepper and spices so I didn't have to buy them.
The cabin is so comfortable and cozy. I loved the living room area. On the nice day, we opened all of the windows and enjoyed the fresh air. It was so quiet at night - very peaceful. The kids loved finding shows to watch on Netflix - nice bonus. The quality of linens and towels was great - no skimping. Beds were very comfortable. We also appreciated having hand soap in the bathrooms and in the kitchen.
Jamie left us a note explaining how things worked and had a helpful binder with information, and asked us to call her if we needed anything, which was nice. We found ideas for dining and things to do by reading her guest book - previous guests shared things and places they liked.
We would definitely stay here again if we make it back to Homer. Thanks Jamie!
Lucked out with blue skies in Homer for a Holiday weekend, such a treat! Namastay was perfect for my parent's visit in town and the need to get away from Anchorage for a few days. They took the Master bedroom, which was quite unique and a bit short in the bathroom for my 6'3" dad, but he made it work. I loved the loft bed, easily could sleep #2 as there are 2 beds up there. Very comfortable and clean linens. Had the fan on and a window open, was nice to have a breeze blowing all night. Could see stars wonderfully. We enjoyed the living room as a place to relax after sightseeing all day. (Thanks for the Netflix subscription, a lovely surprise from the bore of regular blah TV). Kitchen had a good layout though we didn't end up cooking much (how could you with the 3 Sister's Bakery, Fat Olives, etc). I enjoyed the house being a few minutes outside of town, pleasant drive in. And the view was just amazing the entire time we were there.
If I had to pick a downside, it would be the sunken area of the living room. I was afraid I'd forget that step and someone would fall....but no one did! Overall a fantastic house and I'd come back for a second stay easily. Thanks! Molly
My family (2 teenaged boys) enjoyed our stay at Namastay outside Homer. The house is lovely, with a to die for view of the mountains. We did not see the "resident moose" but loved sitting outside on the porch taking in the view. The house is beautifully appointed -- a well stocked kitchen, and thoughtfully chosen furnishings and comfortable beds. The one thing the house is missing is a washer and dryer. The house is in a somewhat suburban part of Homer -- about 15 minutes from the Spit and downtown. We loved this location, except that there was a lot of construction work being done on the road out of town, which could cause some delays. Overall, a lovely, well cared for home.
When we first pulled up to the house I was shocked; the pictures did not include the adjacent areas so the unkempt yards and homes next door took away from this home. It didn't help that the yard needed attention (tall grass and weeds were in abundance). The inside of the cabin was just as cute as the pictures, beds were comfy, but my husband did have trouble with the stairs & the multi levels upstairs and down. The stairs are very steep. I must have read on another site that there was a washer & dryer but this house does not have one available for use. I was also shocked by the limited supply of towels...we were staying for 3 days and were provided 3 towels for the two of us. We either had to share a fresh towel each day or re-use towels. No guest soap is included so don't forget to pack it! On the other hand there are plenty of windows with a great view of glaciers and the Homer Spit. We enjoyed our stay even though we had rain and had to put up with road construction to and from Homer.
My husband and I and our 15 year old son stayed here for several days. The house is located above the Spit which I prefer as the Spit has a high density of tourists and cars. This house is very quiet at night and in the mornings. The house is quite clean and well stocked although extra towels might be nice. My son and I had a wonderful evening playing Monopoly while my husband relaxed on the outside patio. I found the owner to be very attentive and easy to make a reservation with. The only caveat is that all the bedrooms are upstairs. This should be no problem for most but worth noting. It is nice because you have a bit of view from the bedrooms and my son loved the loft bedroom. I do believe that the sofa downstairs folds out so that is a possible option for those that do not like stairs. It was very relaxing stay and it is an easy drive to the Spit or downtown Homer.
Our group of 2 couples thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay at Namastay. We spent most of our day time at Home Spit area and it was nice to come back to a q-u-i-e-t home to unwind and get a good night's sleep. The living room was especially comfortable. All was as described with added bonus of spectacular views and a morning visit by mom moose and babe. Would stay here again! Thanks for sharing your home!
