A SPECIAL PLACE
Discover Cavalier Cottage B&B, a pet-friendly home away from your home and an attractive alternative to conventional hotels, motels and B&B’s. We warmly welcome visitors who come to this beautiful and diverse area of Western Massachusetts with or without their companion animals.
PET-FRIENDLY WAS THE IMPETUS FOR OPENING
Since opening the cottage in January of 2012, I’ve welcomed more guests than I could possibly have predicted or hoped. It seems that Cavalier Cottage has answered a need for truly pet-friendly accommodations. I could tell you stories about the wonderful four-leggeds who’ve enjoyed country walks here, not to mention their terrific two-legged companions. I could not have imagined that I’d meet such a variety of interesting people when I opened the cottage this past winter.
Nestled at the base of the Charlemont hills and located on a very quiet country road, Cavalier Cottage is spacious, bright and comfortable. The live-in area is simply but graciously appointed, featuring ceiling to floor windows, a queen size bed, private entrance and private deck. The fully equipped kitchen has an eat-in area with a full size stove and refrigerator (in case you want to cook-in), and a private bathroom. Relax on the private deck and enjoy the country view. For entertainment, you can access Netflix movies on your laptop, watch Direct TV with over 100 channels, or play classic board games. To stay in touch with the outside world, the cottage is equipped with Wi-Fi. Park your car in an enclosed garage if you need to. Amenities also include a delicious Continental breakfast with Pat’s English scones, a small but growing library, and a CD player with a collection of jazz and classical CD’s.
CENTRAL LOCATION FOR ALL W.MA ATTRACTIONS
Cavalier Cottage is conveniently located to the Mohawk Trail (Route 2) and many outdoor activities: There are great hiking trails, river rafting, tubing, zip line canopy tours, horseback riding, tennis, golf, biking, snow shoeing, rock climbing, downhill and X-country skiing. The beautiful Massachusetts countryside, with its many quaint villages and towns, is also home to a great variety of iconic educational and cultural destinations, including MassMoCa, the Clarke Institute of Art on the Williams College campus, and many more. The area is a four-season vacation destination, from foliage time in the autumn, through ski season into spring hiking time and summer holidays. Time here is sublimely tranquil and peaceful.

I have lived in the Pioneer Valley for the past 15 years. Before embarking on this semi-retired passage of my life, I owned and managed a private career school for cosmetology and esthetics (skin care) education and opened the first full service day spa, both Northampton-based. I have been involved in animal rights and animal welfare for many years.
Since moving to the Charlemont-Shelburne Falls area, I’ve become acquainted with Leslie and Ed Grinnell, owners of Eddie’s Wheels . Leslie and Ed custom design wheelchairs for disabled companion animals and provide them and their care givers valuable guidance and support. I volunteer at Eddie’s Wheels and have the privilege and opportunity to meet many wonderful dogs and cats who seek wheelchair assistance to regain mobility.
Leslie provided me with the inspiration to launch Cavalier Cottage as a place where her out of town clients, both 2 and 4-legged, could spend a night after a fitting for a wheelchair.
In addition, I am a major animal person and there are not very many lodgings in the area that permit pets. And it's always a delight to meet new and interesting people.
After living in NYC and working for the airline industry when I was single and young and then married for a 15 year stint, this venture now provides me much pleasure as I strive to grow Cavalier Cottage!
I look forward to warmly welcoming you to Cavalier Cottage with or without your companion animals.

This area of Western Massachusetts offers great tranquility, natural beauty, many diverse outdoor, educational and cultural activities.
The people of West Country are extraordinarily kind and caring.
I share space at Cavalier Cottage with my marvellous rescued dogs and cats. Neighbors and other community members have made me feel very welcome and it just feels so right. I enjoy and value the peace and beauty this area provides me.
Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home with us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and loved that we were able to bring Max and Jade with us! The breakfast scones and juice were a welcomed morning treat and the peaceful surroundings have left us feeling well rested. We will absolutely recommend Cavalier Cottage to our friends.
Pat is very welcoming and super dog-friendly. The cottage is very clean which is top on our list. The fresh baked scones in the morning were a nice addition! Side note - if a big brown lab shows up and lies down outside your door, don't be alarmed thinking it's lost and homeless. It's Molly, a neighbor's dog that hangs around Pat's because she is so good to her :-)
We stayed three nights at the cottage and really enjoyed it. It is very well located, on a quiet dead-end road in the country. It felt like a real get away, but was still close to many attractions. We used the cottage as a base to explore the beautiful Mohawk Trail area. The cottage is a remodeled section to the owner's home, with a big, well stocked kitchen, small but adequate bathroom, and living room/bedroom area. It was the perfect size for two people and we thoroughly enjoyed lounging around the cottage enjoying coffee and breakfast, doing puzzles and relaxing. The owner Pat was a wonderful host and dog lover who was often at home (with her three dogs) and eager to help. Highlights from the trip included great hikes to Mt. Todd at Mohawk State Park and Chapel Brook in Ashfield. We also enjoyed the nearby town of Shelburne Falls and had a fun meal at the West End Pub- great food and atmosphere, particularly at the bar! We would definitely go back to Cavalier Cottage!
A wonderful experience: starry nights, peaceful days, and fine hospitality, with easy access to Berkshire attractions. We shall return!
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Cavalier Cottage. We chose the place primarily becuse it was pet freindly. It was very charming and close to Berkshire East and the local small towns. Pat was a delightful woman who made us feel at home. She even took care of my dogs while we skied for the day!! She clearly cares about her "four-legged" guests as well!!! Also, her home made scones were outstanding!!! We are looking forward to visiting again soon!!
Hi Patricia! I just wanted to thank you again for the beautiful accommodations for our family of four plus Betty, the goldendoodle! We very much enjoyed our stay, as well as the scones, decor, and hospitality during our stay at your cottage! We were very pleased with the cozy ambiance, fun games, warm scones, and ever-presence of our hostess (YOU!) whenever it was needed! I really felt as though our family was your family during our visit and we will be sure to visit again!

The Cavalier Cottage is a lovely place, set just near local attractions, yet secluded and tranquil. The cottage interior is beautifully furnished, spotless and spacious. There were three of us, so we used the roll out foutons, and everyone was quite comfortable. We had skied all day, and although outdoors the wind was howling, and the thermometer was six degrees, we were warm and cozy as we settled down to dinner we had prepared in the well equipped kitchen. The cottage suited our needs very well. We hope to return in the summer when the gardens are blooming...a very nice place.
This beautiful and diverse area of W. MA offers an array of cultural, educational and outdoor activities. In additon,
Zipline canopy tours, snow shoeing, skiing and X-country skiing. And best of all, you can share it all with your companion animal/s.
