Essex Vacation Rental : Burnham-on-Crouch

We stayed here for Christmas and New Year 2008. We chose Sweep Cottage primarily for its convenient location and proximity for visiting friends and family in Essex/London. We used to live in the area before emigrating and so were already familiar with Burnham and the surrounding villages, therefore we knew what to expect of the village having visited many times before. The cottage itself is conveniently located on the main road through Burnham, but being a small village this did not cause a problem in terms of noise. The Oyster Smack Inn is right next door and serves excellent food if you don't feel like cooking during your stay. Having said that the house is set up as a home away from home. I cooked a full Christmas dinner for my family and several guests with no trouble in the ample and well equipped kitchen and there is a large dining room with a table to sit at least 6 people comfortably. We had a large number of visitors on Christmas morning and with 2 large sofas and a chair in the lounge and another sofa in the dining room, seating wasn't a problem in this instance either. The cottage and gardens are beautifully maintained (and spotlessly clean) and although it looks very olde worlde from the outside, inside the entire cottage is light and spacious and has all the necessary modcons whilst retaining its charming period features. The things that really made our stay special were all the little finishing touches. A bottle of wine, fresh flowers and a Christmas card greeted us upon our arrival. They had even put up a Christmas tree and decorations as a surprise for our 3 young children! Unfortunately we were delayed until the early hours and so the owners were unable to greet us personally but adecuate arrangements were made for us to collect the keys. Other little touches were the DVDs, books and boardgames for rainy days. We really hope to return here in the future and spend a little more time relaxing and enjoying the house itself. We would definitely recommend this cottage to friends, family and anyone else who asks!

This beautiful little cottage delivered on all its promises, there was nothing more we could have asked for.
It was clean and bright through out, with lots of personal touches.
The owner Mrs Mecoy, was warm and welcoming and made our stay a very enjoyable experience.
Every little detail was thought about including a bottle of wine to welcome us on arrival.
There is a great deal to do and see in the area with a variety of places to eat and drink within a short walk.
We use many self catering properties up and down the country and we would highly recommend this one.
