Photos and Description of the Bagnone vacation rental Self-catering in Tuscan hills. Minutes from beautiful waterfalls and town center

Looking for a romantic getaway? Come and relax in the Tuscan sunshine. This is a recently renovated, semi-detached (just 2 other apartments in the building) groundfloor 1 bedroom apartment, just opened to the public. Situated 5 to 10 minutes walk from the river's beautiful waterfalls, with its invitingly clear waters. The apartment is just 20 to 25 minutes (walking) from the centre of Bagnone, where you can find amazingly good value bars, restaurants, and shops. We came for a weeks holiday and fell in love with the area immediately. Before we knew it, we were back to spend 7 months renovating this 200yr old apartment. Low cost/ budget flights are always available from England, with ryanair flying to 3 nearby airports; Pisa (94.5k), Genoa (110.9k), and Parma (114.6k). A car is recommended so you can get the most out of Lunigiana, but the trains are a very inexpensive and reliable way to get around Italy. A taxi is available from Villafranca-Bagnone train station to the apartment for €15

For a romantic break in a beautiful town, Bagnone is the place to be. Take time out from lounging by the sunny banks of the river to discover the areas many hidden treasures. Afterwards, stop in the town to have a bite to eat in one of the many cafes and restaurants while soaking up views of the Tuscan hillside. Both Pisa and Florence, with their famous tourist attractions are a short drive, as are the stunning seaside resorts of Le Cinque Terre and Lerici (we recommend going underneath the castle to find the breathtaking hidden beach there). Closer by, bathe in the natural hot springs of Equi Terme, or an outdoor Olympic size swimming pool in Villafranca. Visit spectacular castles in Fosdinovo; go shopping in Sarzana's famous outdoor antiques market; and for evening entertainment choose from Bagnone's theatre, outdoor cinema or many bars. A wealth of local sagras are to be found during the summer months, such as Bagnone's cake festival and the spectacular medieval festival in Filetto.

Wonderful week in Tuscany - Philippa and Paul

pauliepip London
Review Submitted: September 20, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
We had a wonderful week-long stay at the apartment in Bagnone/Corlaga. We went at the end of May and the weather was great, with the added bonus that there were few tourists around (though I get the impression the place is off the tourist track anyway).

We are keen walkers and the walking in the area is great - whether stepping straight out of the door of the flat or traveling to specific destinations to do round routes. (A car is needed in this area generally I feel.)

What was particularly nice were undertaking walks that took us to different Malaspina castles, these would appear unexpectedly as you turned a corner.

The flat has everything visitors need, including the world's best shower. The kitchen is well equipped and cosy. The neighbours were friendly and very helpful.

Bagnone has a great bar - opposite the war memorial/town hall - where the people are friendly and the free nibbles and cheap beer irresistible. A spaghetti with hare dish called 'a la caccia' (which I am told means 'in the style of the hunter') on offer in local restaurants is well worth a try.

Pontremoli is a short drive away and a good day out, as is a longer journey to the seriously beautiful city of Lucca.

In short I can't recommend the apartment highly enough.

Bella Casa!

Mark and Rosie Norfolk
Review Submitted: August 31, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Anyone wishing to stay in Northern Tuscany and wishing to explore this beautiful, rural landscape will find a cozy and convenient home in this apartment. It is in an ideal location for beach trips, visits to historic cities like Pisa and Parma, and also for walking and out door activities. The quiet and romantic town of Bagnone is only a 20 minute walk away or 5 min drive in the car. It has a great selection of restaurants, and lots of streets to explore, boasting two very picturesque piazzas.

As for the apartment you will find it clean and welcoming, newly decorated and in good repair. The double bedroom is a particularly nice space to be in and the kitchen has everything you need to cook at home. There are 2 or 3 super markets close by.

There is a comfy seating area in the kitchen/living area, where you can snuggle up in the winter months, and it's possible to sit outside in the summer round the back of the apartment.

Will and Rosie have been more than helpful with directions and tips on where to visit and what to see. Although they're obviously not there when you stay, it feels as if they have welcomed you into their home!

The real tuscany

Clare & Pete Nelson, New Zealand
Review Submitted: June 2, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We had a wonderful few days in this cute apartment. The joy of it being that it is away from the main tourist areas which means you get to enjoy real Tuscan food, local people and scenery. Having said that, we spent one of our days walking Cinque Terre, which was fabulous despite the masses of people.
The apartment is small but nicely equipped and had everything we needed for our stay. The nearby towns and villages are charming, particularly Bagnone. We would definately recommend this apartment to couples looking for a spot away from the crowds.

A trip we won't forget

Jon and Carrie Chichester, UK
Review Submitted: April 20, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
My wife and I had ourselves a fantastic belated honeymoon in this cute apartment. Despite the size there is everything you might need for a relaxing getaway off the beaten track. Would make a wonderful location for keen walkers as there are numerous marked paths through the surrounding hills and mountains. Fully recomend a lazy few hours down by the river followed by an ice cream in town, bliss. As it is the mountains it takes some time to get around but half the joy is the scenery on the way and back. Nearby shops in town and supermarkets can provide anything you want, we recommend the bakers for fresh bread everyday but get there early. If it's peace and quiet you are after then you can't go wrong with this place!

Excellent holiday in Bagnone

Review Submitted: September 12, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Dear Will and Rosie,
We had a wonderful time in your beautiful Italian hideaway. Thankyou once again for all your help, all your suggerstions for what to do with our time were perfect.

We enjoyed the area so much we never got around to the day out in Florence we had spent so long planning! Maybe next time!

We have let all our friends know what a great time we had and I've no doubt we'll be back next year for more time by the waterfalls, in the bars and cafe's and romantic walks around the tuscan countryside.
