Overview

Sacramento Townhome Rental Photos and Description

Townhome, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Lovely, unique 1853 home just north of downtown Sacramento in the quiet Alkali Flat residential neighborhood. Only 6 blocks from the State Capitol we are within walking distance to many restaurants, theaters and other attractions like the Crocker Art Museum, Railroad Museum, Old Sacramento, Sacramento Convention Center, and more. Walk to the exciting Midtown area and get a bicycle taxi back.

Our reasonable rates and a lenient refund policy make it convenient to book and guarantee your stay. We look like a B&B but are a vacation rental that rents from overnight stays to up to 45 days.

Leave the car behind! Sacramento Airport (SMF) is 22 miles away and a typical shuttle is $35 each way, groups are less. There's a zip car station three blocks away and bicycle rentals within six blocks. If you bring your car, off-street parking here is free and there is room for an RV or trailer.

So, what is the difference between the J. Neely Johnson House and the Bidwell Mansion, Stanford Mansion and the Governor's Mansion? You can't stay at any of those others! And sadly, due to state budget woes, you may not even be able to visit them in the near future. Today you can stay at this beautiful home for as little as $99 per night.*

Check out our features and amenities. For business or pleasure, we've got everything you need while you are in Sacramento.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the J. Neely Johnson House is Sacramento’s oldest surviving residence having once been the home to several Early California elected officials; the fourth Governor, a State Treasurer and Supreme Court Justice. Restored as it may have been in the late 1890s, we are delighted to share with you a bit of 19th Century Sacramento.

All proceeds from your visits help further the restoration and maintenance of this landmark property. Currently, there are no ADA accommodations; we are planning for access in the near future. All work accomplished in the restoration and rehabilitation is in accordance with or allowed by state and local codes as well as the U.S. Secretary of the Interior Standards for Historic Preservation. This project is a previous grant recipient from the State of California Office of Historic Preservation. All current work is privately funded.

Bookings beginning July 1, 2015: contact Owner to determine availability for short stays within 28 days of your request. There will be times the home is closed for construction.

*45 days extended stay.

Why Dan Hood chose Sacramento

Sacramento is a just-right size town with a tremendous mix of people. This property is an extension of my interest and love of period architecture.

Me and my wife stayed here for about a week after our wedding. We love the location, the history, the house is beautiful and fully furnished with anything you might need. The price was very reasonable for what you get. Dan was very helpful, friendly, made everything easy and just a great guy! I got his number saved if I need a place to stay in the future.

Amazing & Classic

  • 5 of 5

We had a wedding in town and family members that we rarely get to see coming. The house gave us a chance to be all together on our crazy schedule. We loved the house and the history. Dan was a wonderful host and everything was so easy. We love the history and the beautiful furnishings. the house was also beautifully decorated for the holidays and very impressive. When we are visiting in Sacramento it will be our first place to check.

Amazing House

  • 5 of 5

We had a volleyball tournament in town. The house had 3 bedrooms, which was perfect for our team to stay together. The house was beautiful, clean, and had the antique feeling to it. We wished we got to stay longer. The location was also great. It was walking distance to restaurants and even the capitol building. If I visit Sacramento again, this is the place I will be staying.

Antique and Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

The home is absolutely unbelievable. It was like stepping back in time, except with a sleep number bed. The antique decor was incredible; this is a must-stay for any history buff. The homeowner welcomed our group and encouraged us to "live" in the home while we were there ("this is not a museum"). We had 6 people and it was very comfortable for all of us. Easy walking distance from everything, and a lovely park right beside. I would consider another trip to Sacramento JUST to stay in this house.

Steep stairs might not be suitable for all.

It's exactly that! Beautiful and Relaxing on the Patio

  • 4 of 5

My first thought when stumbling upon this vrbo listing was... Wow! I reeeeally hope the dates we are looking for is free... Whaaa-La! They were available and the place was ours for the weekend!! Score. I traveled down to Sacramento to watch WFTDA *Women's Flat Track Derby Association* Division 1 Playoffs with 5 other women from my roller derby league, Terminal City Rollergirls. Not only, did we get to see the highest level of roller derby that is out there today (ei: Gothem Girls Roller Derby from New York), we got to cheer on our All-Stars from Vancouver. I loved being able to walk 10mins from this gorgeous house to the venue, Memorial Auditorium. Which is another amazing structured building, which you see a lot of in Old Sac *ha ha <every time. We played with the old record player and shared some laughs around the table. The sleep was great and coffee on the patio in the morning was just beauty. Dan the home owner was absolutely great and fun to talk with. He was happy to host us and got to learn a little bit about derby along with his wife and neighbor. I couldn't have asked for a better weekend with so many wonderful people. Even the street folk beside the house, passed out on the ground, or hanging out all day aside there. They are lovely people! If you are doing your search for a place in Sacramento, I do hope this one is available for ya.

Thank you Dan and Sue!!
