Photos and Description of the Sheridan vacation cottage rental
Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Story is, in keeping with its name, a storybook-like community, nearly hidden by Ponderosa Pines, Hawthorns and greenery in the summer and generally covered in a blanket of snow in winter.

You will enjoy staying in this 1,500 sq. foot repurposed old Piney Creek General Store and the Waldorf A' Story restrunt. It's been said that we were a 'place with an attitude'...and that attitude is a philosophy of enjoying the quality of life that Story has to offer. We couldn't let the mystique die, so our previous establishment was repurposed into thie lovely guest haus that is available for year round rental.

It has the ambience of places long ago with worn, rustic floors, rock walls, flagstone dining room floor and a bar built from an extra LARGE Ponderosa beetle killed tree, but with all the modern conveniences. You will also find coffee, homemade bread and wine

You will take great pleasure from the antiques and all the paraphernalia on the walls which will keep you entertained for hours...as well as an abundance of games.

View the sunrise from the most awesome huge rocking chairs produced right here in Story while you rock away the hours on the front porch. Sunsets behind the mountains are just as spectacular. There is a stream on the property with places for you to sit and enjoy your early morning coffee...or mimosas.

You will snuggle into your queen size bed in the bedroom that was formerly the wine room and is decorated as such. Our old beer room contains bunk beds covered with old quilts made by each of our grandmothers. There is also extra sleeping for two on the reclining couch. If needed, cots can be provided.

We have recently updated our sheepwagon that would be just cute as a button for the kiddoes to use.

History of the area is waiting to be explored since we are so close to the Bozeman Trail. You will find Ft. Phil Kearney, The Wagon Box Fight Site and the Fetterman battlefield, all of which experienced a portion of the Indian Wars. Custer's Last Stand is just an hour away.

Wildlife is in abundance. Deer will walk up to you and eat right out of your hand. You might also experience a sighting of moose, elk, antelope, black bear, mink or mountain lions. A few bunny rabbits and robins nests too boot

Hiking and snowshoeing are two ways in which you can obtain exercise and observe the most beautiful wild flowers. Another option is to four wheel up beautiful Thornerider or Penrose Park. Winter time allows for snowmobiling

Hunters and fisherman will love the amount of room and the closeness to several lakes and perfect hunting grounds...as well as the perfect kitchen to cook up the fish that do jump on your line.

Ladies will love it for the various organizations they are involved in like quilting groups and book clubs with ample room to spread out and work on their projects.

Restaurants and a grocery store are within walking distance, as is the Post Office (right next door) so you can mail those postcards back home. The library is located conveniently right across the street for books and DVD's. Our DVD player is also set up to stream from Netflix...even kiddoes movies.

Several events occur year round, but the summer is full of excitement. You will find reenactments of fight scenes and one of the biggest Rodeo's around is held in Sheridan the second week of July every year. This week long celebration holds fun for everyone.

Drop by sometime. You're always invited to be our guest at what was once the Piney Creek General Store...and the Waldorf A'Story...that isn't any more...now it is better. We believe that Wyoming has some of the most beautiful scenery in the US of A...and we know you will agree with us.

Easter weekend

5 of 5
Submitted: April 23, 2013 Stayed: March 2013
Had a wonderful Easter weekend. It was nice the adults could stay up late to play games, watch tv, and allow the children to sleep in the rooms with out worrying if we were too loud. It was also wonderful that the kids could eat breakfast in the kitchen and watch cartoons while we sat and drank our coffee. Definitely staying again.

Owner's Response: So glad you had a wonderful time and we are so glad you took the time to write a review. It is nice to have a little space between the adults and kiddoes. Come back and stay with us again anytime.

Memorable Christmas

5 of 5
Submitted: January 2, 2013 Stayed: December 2012
The property owners gave us our most memorable Christmas ever when we stayed in their beautiful guest house in Story, Wyoming this year. We had a wonderful time and the Hoovers went out of their way to make sure our stay was just perfect. We had stayed in their Story, Wyoming guest house last June and decided that it would be the perfect place for a 'Wyoming Christmas' and it was! Both of us highly recommend this eclectic, rustic guest house for ANY time of the year. We'll be back!!

Owner's Response: Its always great to have repeat customers cause you know you must be doing something right! Glad your stay was so pleasurable and we so look forward to seeing you again. Maybe we will have a bunch more baby birdies to watch. This was our first winter guests and three days later we had another couple for a week so I guess we're just not a summer destination but an all year round one.

Escape From Dallas (or anywhere else)!

Submitted: December 31, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
This unique getaway spot has something for everyone. Story, WY is off the beaten path nestled at the foot of the Big Horn Mountains. This cottage is the perfect base camp for accessing beautiful natural landscapes and historical monuments, but it's also at the heart of a friendly, thriving community if you just want a place to hang out and relax. Nowhere else will you have a commercial kitchen at your fingertips, or if you prefer not to cook, the local eateries are welcoming and affordable. Every nook and cranny of the cottage holds something of interest. Patty and Dick are gracious hosts and will make sure you have everything you need to make your stay enjoyable. But be careful - you might end up not wanting to leave!

Owner's Response: We always love to hear that not only do our guests enjoy the surrounding country, but how much they think or our Guest Haus as well. We're kind of partial, of course, but we have gone out of our way to make sure that everyone has plenty to look at to not only please the eye but also intrigue....such as a job application of Lee Harvey Oswald ...just a tad bit of history. I'm also amazed at the number of people that have booked for over the holidays when it is cold and snowy here....but nice and toasty inside the Waldorf.
As the sign on the front of the building says "Story Real Escape Co. and that is what we can be for anyone. Remember Heaven is Another Story....right here in Wyoming

August Vacation in Story!

5 of 5
Submitted: August 18, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
We had a great time staying in Story! We used the location as a jumping off point for hiking and touristy things in the Big Horn Mtns. We even saw a mama moose and her baby up in the mountains! The town really has a lot to offer too, including the store that we bought groceries at. Thanks again Patty and Dick.

Owner's Response: So glad you found this location to be such a wonderful starting place for adventures in our beautiful state. Its nice to be located in such a central location where you have everything you need from a grocery store to several eating establishments and the most beautiful place in Wyoming...that would be Story... Look forward to having you stay with us again.

Great place, great location

Submitted: July 13, 2012 Stayed: June 2012
We really enjoyed our stay in Story. The town is very small and qiuet, but has plenty of the basics. And whatever you can't find there, can be found in 20 mins in either direction (Sheridan and Buffalo). There are a number of things close by to see and do - some very nice hikes starting almost right in town, a fish hatchery and historical sites, as well it is handy for trips into the Big Horn Mountians.
The cottage was wonderful, and it was a real pleasure to meet the Hoover's, they were very freindly and accomodating. We loved all the space, the quirkiness and especially the commercial kitchen. The place was very well stocked and welcoming. Though there were only two of us on this trip, it would be a great place for a group of people to come - either a family or group of friends etc. Highly recommend staying here if you have the chance.

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and that the suggestions we gave you for hikes proved fruitful. You were a delightful couple and we hope to see you in the future. Thanks for your great recommendations to others. Dick and Patty Hoover
