Wonderful vacation apartment

  • 5 of 5
This was the perfect place to stay for our first trip to Florence. The apartment is charming, quiet, and very clean and the owner Lorenzo could not have been more helpful. He lives in the neighborhood and was accessible to answer any questions we had. His suggestions for places to eat were excellent and, yes, that included the best pizza in town!

One big plus is that the apartment is located in a neighborhood that includes two markets, a bakery, several trattoria and a gelateria. It was very relaxing to come back after a day of sightseeing and feel like we were home.

It is close to just about everywhere you could want to go in Florence. Within a few minutes walk is the Piazzale Michaelangelo, San Miniato al Monte, the Boboli Gardens and the Pitti Palace. Cross the river and within 5 minutes you can be at the Uffizi Gallery, Piazza della Signori and Sante Croce and then the Duomo.

We loved Florence and we loved staying here and we would highly recommend this apartment (as long as you were able to climb stairs as the apartment is on an upper floor). We would definitely return. Thank you, Lorenzo, for helping us enjoy your great city.

Our home away from home

  • 5 of 5
We visited Italy on our honeymoon, and the portion of the trip that we were most excited for was the 8 days we spent in Florence. It was the only part of our trip where we stayed in an apartment (as opposed to a B&B) and it was definitely the right decision! The flat was modern, clean, and comfortable. Lorenzo was so wonderful - easy to communicate with, helpful in any way he could be, and he gave us lots of great recommendations, so make sure to ask!! We even bumped into him on the street one day, so he's definitely around if you need him for any reason! The pull out couch was very comfortable, and I imagine the bed that replaced it is comfortable as well (we'll have to come back to try it!) The kitchenette was on the smaller side, but perfect - we even prepared dinner in a few times (having gone to the Mercato Centrale or Sapori & Dinatori earlier in the day to get ingredients...if you go to the market please try the "fish & chips", they're cones of delight!).

We absolutely adored the neighbourhood! We got a cappuccino and a cornetto to start each day off right, and it truly felt like "coming home" at the end of each day. We loved how close it was to the Piazzale Michelangelo, but we didn't make it all the way up there until our last day because we discovered the Rose Garden! Not nearly as many stairs to climb and still a beautiful view, it was the perfect place to relax at the end of each day with a bottle of wine.

We made a point of having gelato each day we were in Italy and there are some amazing gelateria nearby (our 3 favourites were Riva Reno (suggested by Lorenzo), Il Gelato Di Filo (right around the corner) and Cantina Del Gelato (on the way to the Ponte Vecchio from the apartment) - you should try them all!). Do not, however, buy gelato from the tourist trap right at the end of the Ponte Vecchio...probably the most expensive and least delicious gelato of our trip!!

It has almost been a year since our visit to Italy, and my husband and I dream of going back all the time. We often look at each other and reminisce about the amazing experience we had, and staying in this wonderful apartment was a huge part of that! I would stay here again in a heartbeat, and I would recommend it to any couple or person travelling solo. If I can convince my mom to travel to Italy this is definitely where I'll encourage her to stay!!

Thank you again Lorenzo for offering this beautiful space, and I hope that we get to see you again in the coming years!

Fantastic little studio flat in a great location

  • 5 of 5
Firstly, we were met by Lorenzo at around 11.30pm! That was already going above and beyond the call of duty, in my book!
He had no hesitation in giving us various recommendations for places to eat and visit, including the invaluable advice about not doing a full-day or half-day trip to Pisa because, beyond the main square, there is little to do there. This was fabulous advice and led to us doing a full day Tuscany tour of Pisa, San Gimignano (somewhere Lorenzo had said is a "must-see" and Siena instead. I can highly recommend doing this tour, if you can. It's the perfect amount of time in each place without hanging about and getting too hot or bored!

Anyway, I digress! The studio is in a great location, only ten minutes walk into the main city via one of several bridges (we usually crossed Ponte Vecchio - why wouldn't you? It's mesmerising!) and with a supermarket within 5-10 minutes walk (another recommendation from Lorenzo which was invaluable!)

The studio is well-equipped with a very comfortable bed and, thank goodness, air conditioning! The freezer part of the fridge is VERY effective (good for those of us who like to take frozen water on our day trips) and everything is very clean. It's like having a really nice hotel room but with the independance of a self-catering apartment!

Perfect all round and hight recommended by my husband and I!

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5
I spent 6 nights during my recent solo visit to Florence. The flat was perfect in every way! I was the first to enjoy the new bed that has replaced the fold-out couch. Very nice!

The apartment is just as it shows in the photos: charming, comfortable and updated with everything you'll need. I made good use of the kitchenette. I loved the location and hearing the birds chirping and the local children playing. Stairs to the apartment are definitely narrow and winding but they're worth the effort!

Lorenzo was always very quickly available to answer questions. Booking, arrival and check-out all were very smooth and easy.

This place was perfect! I felt safe, comfortable and relaxed. Thanks for everything, Lorenzo!

We had such a good time here!

  • 5 of 5
Great studio for a couple, on the quiet south of the river, but near to shops and bars.
Initial 20 minutes walk from station, but of course there are buses, but after that, most attractions only 10 or 15 mins walk away. Double sofa bed VERY comfortable, nice bathroom and adequate kitchenette (on the hob kettle and coffee maker provided).
Lorenzo immensely helpful, met us in the street when we arrived and gave us some really good restaurant recommendations.....one we used twice! We were there for 4 nights and would recommend the Firenzecard if you want to do lots of paying museums and jump the queue for the Uffizzi and Academmia (E50 for 72 hours, pretty much all museums and bus use too). This is another apartment I will be recommending to friends and family. Loved my stay here!

Charming Flat in Locals Neighborhood

  • 5 of 5
We booked Lorenzo's flat through Home Away; we were a bit nervous as this was our first VRBO experience. However, Lorenzo was great in our pre visit communications; deposit exchange, response to questions all went smoothly.

We drove down from Milan immediately after arriving from the US. Needless to say we were a bit addled from the travel. Getting through Florence to the area of the flat was a challenge under those circumstances; without a GPS it would have been hopeless.

The flat is on the south side of the Arno in a non-touristy neighborhood populated by local inhabitants, which we really appreciated. While quiet and private it is only a 15 walk to the Ponte Vecchio and the wonders of Florence. When home in the evening we loved to listen to children playing and the bell tolling the hours.

Lorenzo was there to meet us and gave us a tour of the flat along with directions to markets and several recommendations of places to eat during our stay (don't miss Caffe Cibreo). Since the parking on the Via di San Niccolo should be left to permanent inhabitants he also gave us the location of a 'secret' parking area about 500 meters from the flat that does not cost anything; very important if you are driving.

The flat is on the top floor of a building that used to be a convent; the stairs are narrow and winding; getting two large suitcases up the stairs was a bit of a chore but Lorenzo also pitched in with that.

While not large by American standards there was plenty of room for my wife and i. There is a small kitchenette that is stocked with all the necessities; pots, plates, silverware etc. wifi access is free and connection is stable and fast. The flat was clean when we arrived.

The bed is a convertible sofa which also made us a bit nervous before the visit. We needn't have worried; the mattress is quite good and we slept comfortably (once the jet lag wore off a bit).

On the day we left Lorenzo came by to see us off and helped with the bags.

Lorenzo was a great host and the flat is a great place to stay in Florence. If we are lucky enough to return to Florence in the future we would definitely rent the flat again
