I grew up in Wenatchee and always loved the spectacular scenery in this part of the US. I moved to New York City in the 1970s but always returned to the Leavenworth area to spend time with my family and friends. My husband who is from Australia, and I live in New York City. Over 40 years ago we started and operated a NYC landscaping company, which we recently sold. We now work in NYC managing our property here and we manage to travel a lot. We frequently go to Italy where we bought and renovated an old farm house in Tuscany (which we also rent).
Having grown up in Wenatchee, I always loved the Cascade Mountains and the local area. My family and I have been enjoying Lake Jolanda & Tumwater Canyon since the 1960's. My husband and I celebrated our wedding on Lake Jolanda and we have had many reunions and get togethers through the years here. We have lived in New York City since the 1970s but we always go back to Wahington State to enjoy the spectacular scenery and many outdoor things to do in and around Leavenworth. We built the River Chalet in this unique place and we have been enjoying it ever since.
The River Chalet is a unique and special place where you feel so far away and yet it takes only 5 minutes to drive into Leavenworth. It's a superbplace for a family or friends to get together or have a reunion or a retreat. There are so many choices here as to how to spend your time: you can spend time together, or slip off for a quiet nap or curl up with your facorite new book, or go for a walk or hike, work on a computer, or paint a watercolour. The light and atmosphere outdoors change throughout the day and seasons and wildlife sightings are common. Just sitting on either of the decks with binoculars and a camera can keep you occupied for hours. There are lots of large windows throughout the house and even in the middle of the winter its possible to enjoy the full beauty of nature outside. There have been sightings of deer, otters, beaver, an occasional bear (only sighted on the other side of the lake), lots of fish, eagles, hawks, ducks, geese, herons, egrets, several other birds, and mountain goats up on the cliffs. Its so near and yet so far away. You feel way far away from the hussle and bussle of busy city life, and still if you feel a special last minute urge for an extra flavor of ice cream, town is just 5 minutes away.
