Photos and Description of the Essaouira vacation house rental House/ villa 5 persons.

Ideally located, in the heart of the ancient Medina close to Bab Doukala. Recently renovated to a high standard, combining traditional Moroccan style with European comforts. The lounge, bedrooms and bathrooms are finished in traditional Moroccan Tadlect (fine plasterwork) .The house has two terraces with sea views one of which adjoins the kitchen, ideal for eating al fresco! The house is near all restaurants, shops, the port, the beach and one of the few off licenses!! The Medina in Essaouira is full of character and you can enjoy hassle free shopping unlike other Moroccan cities. Local activities include camel riding, surfing, swimming, wind-surfing (lessons can be arranged), quad-biking, organised night fishing trips and SHOPPING!! The house is very safe and suitable for women travelling on their own. We have a reliable local friend to assist you if required. Our lovely neighbour can prepare and deliver local tagines, couscous and accompany you in a tour of the souks.

If the medinas of Marrakech or Fes overwhelmed you, you'll enjoy a more relaxed shopping experience in Essaouira . The medina is surrounded by walls and there are 5 main gates you can navigate by. The medina is free of cars and it's also quite clean. The souqs (bazaars) are easy to navigate and you don't have to worry about getting lost. They are located around the junction between Rue Mohammed Zerktouni and Rue Mohammed el-Qory (just ask a local shopkeeper when you're there to point you in the right direction). Basically, it is a relatively small area and you can explore at your own pace and walk down any narrow alley that looks interesting to you. Essaouira's medina is walled like many old towns in Morocco and the ramparts are quite impressive as they're built on the cliffs. Locals and visitors alike enjoy strolling along the ramparts as the sun sets. The port is a busy port filled with fishing boats.

A very welcoming and pleasant Riyad with excellent staff and in a very good location. An excellent refuge when the streets of Marakech are too frenetic.

Lovely property in Essouira

A beautiful property, with a lot of stairs! THere is only 1 room on each floor. Not a problem for us, but worth considering if you have young children, and definatly not suitable for anyone unsteady. A good location in the 'locals' end of town, so be prepared for noises, smells and sights - its the real Morocco, not the hygienic touristy version. Very clean, and Regi is extremly kind and helpful, and always at the end of the phone if you have any problems. Be prepared to eat out a lot, the kitchen has only the bare essentials, not a problem though as lots of good cheap food available. Beds comfy, bathrooms clean and showers good.
Essouira is a lovely town, the people are so friendly, the place has a very relaxed feeling (not like Marrakesh). Be prepared to get on the locals buses and visit nearby places such as Sidi Koauki. Buses are easy to find just outside the town walls (Bab Dukala) and very cheap. There aren't any sights as such, so just enjoy mooching around the town. You will be offered endless cups of mint tea as the people are so hospitable and just love children. If you want a henna tattoo, go to the lady in a textiles shop , just below the ramparts, she did a beautiful job for a good price and have the black as it lasts longer. Don't get it done in Marrakesh! On the whole, it felt very safe. I would definatly recommend a stay in Essouira to my friends.
