Tom Raynor purchased this lodge in 2010
Chapel Hill is the most beautiful place in the Piedmont. This home offers the best of the mountains while still being convenient to everything the area offers.
My husband and I stayed at the lodge for our wedding weekend and hosted our rehearsal dinner there. The property is an architectural wonder, the setting is gorgeous, and the property is so big and varied that it just absorbs people. Our guests were able to spread out wherever they felt comfortable - the pool, the several patios, the great room, and the entertainment cave. It was also a perfect place for the wedding party to stay and have fun before and after-wedding bonding all weekend. Many of our guests commented on how special and perfect the setting was, and how at-home they all felt. I had eventually had to send people away because no one wanted to leave!
Anne was also incredibly responsive, helpful, and gracious, offering great advice and recommendations, and being extremely generous in allowing us to stay extra time.
I highly recommend this property for parties, reunions, any occasion where you can get enough people together to enjoy it!
When planning our wedding in Chapel Hill, I wanted to find a house in the area that could house 12+ people and came across the Lodge. After speaking with Tom and visiting the property, deciding where to stay was an easy decision.
The house is spectacular. It is spacious enough for a large group to spend time together in the common areas, but each bedroom has its own bath and gives plenty of privacy from the rest of the place.
We held our rehearsal dinner there, and Anne was extremely helpful when it came to scheduling follow up visits with the caterer to plan how to furnish the meal and measure the space. Our guests, many of them UNC alums, were blown away by the location, and shocked that they had not known of the Lodge's existence prior to that night.
I would recommend staying here to anybody spending time in Chapel Hill. My group had an amazing visit, and I cannot imagine anybody having a bad experience at such a beautiful property.
The Lodge is a beautiful space to entertain or just chill out. You have to see the stone and wood; it is out of this world. The views and landscaping are spectacular, and the salt-water pool and waterfall are so relaxing.
Not only is the Lodge spacious and packed with amenities, Tom keeps the place tip-top. And Anne is a pleasure to work with, she accommodated all of our special requests.
One tip: it's easy for guests to get lost as they drive up to the Lodge, especially at night. We tied balloons and posted signs at all the turns.
In brief, the Chapel Hilltop Lodge is a gorgeous venue with an exceptional, courteous and engaging staff who will ensure your event is a memorable one.
My wife and I were married in Durham, NC on a Saturday in November 2013. We held our Friday night rehearsal dinner and a Sunday brunch at the Lodge. Along with our wedding party we stayed at the Lodge for the weekend.
The 6 bedrooms comfortably accommodated our 16-person wedding party and the 7.5 bathrooms, provided ample privacy and space to get ready on our wedding day. Set atop one of the highest locations in the Chapel Hill, we woke up to gorgeous sunrises and views each day. Our guests enjoyed exercising on the vast property, which includes a farm and many walking trails. In the evenings our friends and family gathered around the pool table and the entertainment center in the cave, which is set below the main floor.
There was great planning in the design of the lodge, as demonstrated in the placement of the cave, which became an entertainment hub for our guests. The cave provides plenty of late evening entertainment options for guests, but is far enough away from the bedrooms that noise did not disrupt anyone's sleep. There is also incredible technology integrated throughout the home; the central home control system allowed us to adjust lighting, play music from an iPod, laptop, or internet radio, and shut down the lighting of the whole house for the evening from one location in the great room.
For both the rehearsal dinner and the brunch we were easily able to accommodate our 60 guests in the great room, which provided incredible views through the 20-foot tall windows that overlook the Chapel Hill landscape. The central home control system allowed us to get the lighting and music just right for the rehearsal dinner and entertaining afterwards. The beauty of the Chapel Hilltop Lodge astounded our guests as was evident by their wide eyes on arrival and compliments throughout the event.
It is clear that both Tom and Anne have an enthusiasm for hospitality and an unparalleled commitment to ensuring that their guests’ events are everything they could have hoped for.
Many of our guests have approached my wife and myself on multiple occasions since the wedding to tell us that it was one of the most beautiful and fun weddings they had ever attended. I encourage you to choose the Chapel Hilltop Lodge to ensure an event that you and your guests will cherish.
We loved The Lodge, but wish we had more time to spend there! We were there with all of our extended family for a 'destination' wedding so we were so busy with all of the wedding events that we were unable to really enjoy all the wonderful features of this home. It is a great retreat for large families. With the gorgeous, refreshing pool, and beautiful surroundings our family would have loved to just come stay and never leave!
The only downfalls are the many steps if there are elderly in your party and the amount of insects for the not-so-nature-loving.
From the moment we contacted Anne about the possibility of renting the Lodge at Pickard Mountain everything was perfect. The rental process went smoothly with all questions answered.
The architecture and finishings in the lodge are all custom and high-end. One of our guests has been a contractor for decades and walked around in awe of the construction. He explained that the fireplace with its massive stones would have had to have been built first, with the house being built around it.
Anne couldn't have been more accommodating. We made a special request, offering to pay for it. Anne said yes to our request but did not accept extra payment for it. Later, when we realized that the house was not going to be rented the day before our stay, we asked Anne if we could drop some supplies off the day before. She not only allowed that, she went beyond. Upon our arrival, local gourmet treats and a wonderful bottle of champagne awaited us.
The lodge was such a lovely place to visit when our family visited. We highly recommend it!
