Stunning wing of pretty cottage, traditional stone to front and dramatic two storey rear facing west over sunny terrace and garden. Dramatic large reception room 6.48m x 4.56m cathedral type ceiling and balcony with clear view woodburner. All oak, hardwoods and tiles to floors, stylish oak doors, and woodwork. Culverhay has a tranquil, romantic, country location, yet is only a short walk on a footpath over fields to Wiveliscombe with its surprising array of amenities. There is an open air heated pool, a tennis club, and cricket pitch. Wivey has three pubs, two restaurants, food shops, a delic, large gift/fabric shop, a famous butcher, newsagent, hardware shop and two takeaways. Plenty of eateries for self catering visitors. We are approx 20min to Taunton, 45 min to Exeter and M5 Junction 26 is 15 min. There are lovely walks locally, with dramatic views from old historic routes winding up steep hills, or Exmoor and Dulverton are about 20 minutes, and the Coast is 30 min.

Wild Exmoor is 20-30 minutes, have lunch in Dulverton, wander around its charming streets and shops, and have a serious walk on the Moor. Or stroll down to Wivey and have a pub lunch and enjoy shopping at the Courthouse emporium or the Carousel Pig's quaint, choc a bloc small rooms, overflowing with gifts. Relax, chill or have a brisk walk.

  • Rates and stay lengths can be flexible. This is a wing of a family home. We have two dogs, we have horses and neighbours sheep in field. You can walk the six acres and take footpaths to Wivey with its wonderful array of shops and pubs and restaurants. You can buy gifts galore, fabric for curtains, three food shops, chemist and hardware and newspaper shops All here on our doorstep, so convenient and friendly. Not to mention one of the most famous family owned butchers shops!

Notes: Wing of owners house, at side, private entrance, etc. Stairs so not suitable disabled. Village has great heated swimming pool, which is being expanded and updated at present. This summer there will be new showers and a great sun terrace looking over the fields. 3 tennis courts at club a short walk over fields, (not a private court) and cricket and football pitchs. Two restaurants in Wivey and 3 pubs, good for food. Also Chinese and fish and chips. However cottage best suited for couple, perhaps a guest/older child for an odd night. Wing is beautiful hardwood - all oak floored, doors etc, tiles on other areas. Large sitting room with double height window facing West over terrace and lovely garden. Can be let for varying lengths or used for B & B. Cottage and House now have separate washing machines. The Owner is a trained Holistic Therapist, and guests may enjoy a massage in her treatment room.

Our three week visit here was a great experience! This is a small guest house, tastefully and artistically furnished, clean, and very well appointed (2 TVs, a patio, a fireplace, a washing machine, Internet, lots of books, a beautiful garden, etc.) We especially loved the location which was a short walk (through a few fields and around a few cows and lots of sheep) to the lovely village of Wiveliscombe. Unlike many villages today, this one really functions with small shops, a famous butcher shop, a gourmet deli, pubs, several restaurants, a tiny library--even an hourly bus service to Taunton, the largest nearby town. Great walking paths are everywhere. Louise was very pleasant, helpful and eager to make us feel at home; her two charming dogs helped make that happen. We did have a problem with our mobile phone connection, but I solved that using Skype on my computer. Highly recommended for short stays and long.

Louise the owner was very helpful when booking the cottage. As i was planning a suprise weekend away for my husband (who's birthday it was) she provided my with plenty of information to make it a special weekend. On arrival we were welcomed by Louise who lives in the cottage attached, but not at all intrusive, she showed us around the cottage. The wing provided everything we needed and is as good as it looks in the photo's, plenty of wood supplied for the fire to relax infront of and very comfortable accomadation. The village is about a 5 minute walk with shops and pubs. We ate at the White Hart Hotel, traditional pub food but absolutely brillant and resonably priced, and Moorkhana Indian restaurant, traditional Indian food, both of which my husband and I would highly recommend visiting. There are many walks nearby, we walked around the local reservoir which was stunning, plenty of wildlife including deer and badgars, it took about 2 and a half , about 15minute drive away. We had a lovelly weekend here with the snow still remaining from the week before it was a wonderful break. We will definately be visiting again and would recommend it to our friends. We are 28 and 32 years old from Southampton.
