Five Oaks Cottage on Sugar Lake, Clearwater, MN

The Lake:

From the Minnesota DNR:

Sugar Lake is located in northern Wright County, approximately five miles north of Annandale. There are two public accesses, one each on the north and south sides of the lake. Sugar Lake was designated for muskellunge management in 1967. With its larger size (1,015 acres), depth (69 feet), and water clarity (10 feet or more), Sugar Lake is one of the outstanding lake resources of the county.

The Cottage:

Welcome to Five Oaks Cottage on Sugar Lake! The cottage is located on the Northern Bay of the lake, and faces west for beautiful evening sunsets. It is close to the north boat landing, providing easy access to launch your boat for your stay. This 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage accommodates up to six persons and is located on 5 acres of land with 120 feet of natural level shoreline and a sandy bottom to the end of the dock. Wonderful fishing from the end of the dock!

About The Owner

This cottage has been in our family for more than 50 years. The cottage has been a favorite family gathering place for many years during the summer.

The cottage was purchased by my grandfather when Sugar Lake was 'way up North' from Minneapolis. Today it's only a short 50 minute drive from down Minneapolis.

Busy summer and work schedules helped us decide to share this great space with others by making available for weekly rentals.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1958
Why The Owner chose Annandale

Sugar Lake is a wonderful recreation and fishing lake and has a strong and well managed Lake Association.

Since it's so close to the Twin Cities, you can take advantage of fishing, boating, and swimming one day and make a quick drive to the city for a Twins game or to take in other sights the next day.

The Albertville Outlet Mall and Cabela's is also only a 25-30 minute drive as well. St Cloud is also about 20 minutes to the north.

Lake Maria State Park is located only 3 miles to the east and is a great place for a hike in the summer.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is situated on a larger lake lot with 120 feet of west facing shoreline. You'll find that there's ample room between the cabins on the lake and you can sit on the end of the dock in the evening and take in beautiful sunsets.

The cottage comes with use of a canoe and paddle boat so you can easily access the lake. A public boat access is located about 1/4 mile north of the cottage if you bring your own boat and there's space for you to secure your boat to our dock for the duration of your stay.

Quiet lakeside getaway !

My husband and I and four kids stayed at Five Oaks for a week at the end of the summer and everyone really enjoyed it ! The cabin itself has very comfortable accomodations and was very clean and well-maintained. We loved the proximity of the cabin to the lakeshore. The kids really enjoyed the high quality paddleboat and canoe. We found that there were many extra things available and the kitchen was stocked with staples such as condiments, cooking oil, etc. and plenty of pots, pans,etc. As for outdoors, there's a nice Weber grill, picnic table, lawn chairs, even a tie-out for the dog, etc. for the renters' use. We had brought our own chairs and tie-out, etc. The location is really great...very very quiet and away from any busy roads. Even though the cabin is about an hour from home, we felt as if we were up north. The towns of Clearwater or Annandale are very near in case you need to get
groceries or other necessities. The owner was very prompt in answering any questions we had and the manual sent to us was very helpful.
I would certainly recommend this cabin and hope to return there next season !

great vacation getaway

The cabin was clean and well organized. The grounds were also very nice and the lake was great. Clear water, good swimming and fishing. It was very easy to deal with the owner and he provided great info. Only thing I would suggest to people would be to rent your water equipment before your vacation. No rental on the lake and boats, jet skis need to be brought over from rental shops. Most shops were already sold out for the week. But if you have your own boat-no problem. My family would rent here again anytime.

I stayed at the cabin on a Monday-Thursday in June and it was fantastic. The owners were a joy to work with and the whole experience was hassle free. The cabin was neat as a pin, and was very well stocked with items I hadn't thought to bring, such as a corkscrew! I felt very safe and the cabin was very well secured with locks on doors and windows. Everything was as promised and even better. The only reason I wouldn't recommend this cabin is because I don't want the secret to get out! I will definitely come here again if I have the chance. The rates were reasonable, the location easy to get to and the view was spectacular! Thanks Five Oaks Cottage for making my vacation a wonderful experience.
