This cottage has been in our family for more than 50 years. The cottage has been a favorite family gathering place for many years during the summer.
The cottage was purchased by my grandfather when Sugar Lake was 'way up North' from Minneapolis. Today it's only a short 50 minute drive from down Minneapolis.
Busy summer and work schedules helped us decide to share this great space with others by making available for weekly rentals.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 1958
Sugar Lake is a wonderful recreation and fishing lake and has a strong and well managed Lake Association.
Since it's so close to the Twin Cities, you can take advantage of fishing, boating, and swimming one day and make a quick drive to the city for a Twins game or to take in other sights the next day.
The Albertville Outlet Mall and Cabela's is also only a 25-30 minute drive as well. St Cloud is also about 20 minutes to the north.
Lake Maria State Park is located only 3 miles to the east and is a great place for a hike in the summer.
The cottage is situated on a larger lake lot with 120 feet of west facing shoreline. You'll find that there's ample room between the cabins on the lake and you can sit on the end of the dock in the evening and take in beautiful sunsets.
The cottage comes with use of a canoe and paddle boat so you can easily access the lake. A public boat access is located about 1/4 mile north of the cottage if you bring your own boat and there's space for you to secure your boat to our dock for the duration of your stay.
Our stay at Five Oaks was very nice. Great accommodations and comfortable living. The only improvements would be if the shore area had fewer weeds and a few upgrades to the cookware. The cast iron pan was great, but not the others. Also could use better lighting in the counter area. All minor things. We had a great stay. We love that it is so close to the Cities.
Our time at Sugar Lake was sweet - we all came home sun kissed and rested.
Five Oaks Cottage was more than we expected. We found it very clean, comfortable and larger then we thought it would be (a pleasant surprise) from the pictures with plenty of room for the whole family.
We would definitely recommend to friends and family and will be returning next year.
The lake is beautiful and clear, a little weedy so not good swimming from shore.
The owner of cottage very easy to contact and made sure everything was to our liking. Rented pontoon from neighbor next door -also very friendly and easy to deal with.
Was a wonderful week.
As a family, our love of water sports, campfires, outdoor games, and just spending a full week together make five oaks perfect for us. All the necessary conveniences, great view of lake, ample room, exceptionally clean kitchen and bath are important to use. Internet access is also important as son-in-law must be available for business emergencies. Though we spend the majority of our time on the water/outdoors, the cabin is a great place to end our day. 1 improvement requested would be better fishing. . The Grewings and Cordes family.
We had a wonderful time at Five Oaks Cottage! The cabin came stocked with everything you need. If your into fishing, this is the spot for you! We caught dozens of sunnies, perches, and large mouth bass right off the doc! The view of lake from the family is incredible! The owner was very responsive to us, and we are planning another trip there soon. The perfect family getaway.
We had a great time. The cabin had all of the comforts of home plus more. The lake was crystal clear and the fishing was great on the dock and in the boat. Our only regret was that we had to leave. Are already looking forward to going back next year.
Great place! The owner was great about answering texts with any questions we had right a way. Cottage had everything we needed and more than we expected. Would love to stay again!
