Rosseau House, located on Morgan Bay on Lake Rosseau is a luxury Timber Frame Cottage that has been newly built, completed in 2009.
Outstanding views present themselves throughout
the home and on the many decks and seating areas surrounding the property.
The flagstone steps meander down to the over sized dock. The water is crystal clear and averages about 78 degrees in the summer months. A huge granite cliff and a flat stone ledge is on the other side of the dock, a great spot for fishing. Two ladders allow a gradual entry to the water for those who prefer that over diving in. The dock overlooks the dotted islands and the scenery across the lake. The elevations are high on Lake Rosseau making the scenery outstanding. Loons and ducks swim very close to our dock as it is at a very quiet part of Lake Rosseau, the most north western part of the lake.
Lake Rosseau is connected to Lake Joseph and Lake Muskoka offering 40 miles of boating. Boats can be rented at Muskoka Lakes Marina which is 5 minutes by car or by boat located in the town of Rosseau. You will need to have your license to be able to rent a boat.
We have a canoe for those who enjoy that.
Inside the cottage: The cottage is furnished with many interesting artifacts and antique pieces mixed with modern comfortable furnishings.Things we collected during the 2 years that the cottage was being built.
The Great Room has 25 foot high ceilings with tall windows that face south allowing sun to shine in all day long.
The 60 inch Sony LED Smart TV, with Sattelite is mounted above the stone stacked fireplace. The Douglas Fir beams are seen throughout the home and you can still smell cedar as soon as you enter the cottage. The 2 large sofas and 2 armchairs flanking the window are very comfortable and there is easy seating for 8 people.
The floors are distressed pine in all rooms except for the foyer and powder room which have natural slate floors. The Muskoka room has tiles (that look exactly like wood) so that they could be heated.
The country kitchen is well equipped with a Kitchenaid gas stove with a warming drawer and a Bosch dishwasher. In addition to the french door fridge there is also a Viking wine fridge under the island. The main counter top is granite and the island has a butcher block top. It also serves as a breakfast nook with 3 barstools. The kitchen is very well stocked with plenty of good quality pots and pans, crockery, glasses and cutlery.
The Dining room seats 8 guests and sits in front of a huge picture window with a fabulous view of the islands across the lake.
All 3 Queen bedrooms are very large, beautifully decorated and each room offers a view of the lake. Two of the bedrooms have a twin bed in addition to the Queen beds to allow sleeping for 8 in total.
The Master bedroom features a 50 inch Sony LCD TV mounted to the wall with a DVD player, a Canadiana Pine 4 poster bed, French doors to a balcony overlooking the lake and a large en suite bathroom with a freestanding bath tub for 2 and a large glass shower tiled in subway tile with marble trim. The double vanity has been converted from a harvest table.
There are 3 bathrooms, 2 of them with showers. The large 2nd bathroom upstairs also has subway tiles in the shower, lots of windows, a cathedral ceiling with exposed timbers, antique furnishings and wainscoting on the walls.
The loft upstairs looks down over the Great room. There is a wicker chaise lounge up there as well as a rocking chair that also have views out to the lake through the tall windows in the Great Room. It makes an ideal spot to read or sit quietly.
The bookcase up there is full of many games and puzzles as well as DVD's to enjoy.
The Muskoka Room with views of the lake and the woods features a gas fireplace, heated floors and pull down clear panels with Velcro to block the wind to allow for dinners out there on chillier nights. On warm days they simply roll up again. The big ceiling fan keeps it cool on the warmer days although there is always a nice breeze off the lake.
There is a dining table out there as well for up to 8 guests and a 3 seat sofa and chair. An antique ice box and hand painted dining chairs add to the ambiance.
It steps down to another deck with glass railings with wicker outdoor seating and the Gas BBQ. Cooking out there at sunset is a real joy.
Another cedar deck is located out front of the walk out on the lower level. It features 2 cedar loungers and 3 Muskoka chairs. A great spot to enjoy another breath taking view. The fire pit sits below with chairs around it overlooking the lake.
In total there are 3 dining areas to choose from, inside the house, the Muskoka room and the lower deck.
You can relax knowing that we have an automatic generator that kicks in immediately in the unlikely event of a power outage. The water is supplied by the lake and is filtered twice. It is completely potable and of a high quality.
The location is one of the many benefits of this cottage. A five minute drive takes you into the pretty town of Rosseau where you will find a very good restaurant called Crossroads, an LCBO, The General store(they carry everything from meat and fresh produce to DVDs for rent) and a bakery. There is also a very charming public library in the town. On Fridays there is a fair held down at the marina that people come to from miles away.

Timber Frame cottage
We came across this beautiful lot in 2007 and decided to build a Timber frame cottage on it. We loved it for the view and the 5 minute accessibility to a great little town town with amenities. In 2009 the project was completed.
Imagine a beautiful timber framed cottage nestled in between the towering pines and the granite outcroppings of the Great Canadian Shield. Designed not only to blend into, but to actually enhance its natural surroundings. Imagine that it has a vaulted 25'-0 high ceiling in the great room, with full height windows that overlook the pristine clear waters of Lake Rosseau. It is new, modern, and exceptionally well-appointed. Each of the three large bedrooms offer extraordinary views of the lake and the beds themselves are comfortable beyond belief.
Sounds nice doesn't it? ...it is.
My family and I celebrated my 60th birthday here last summer and I simply cannot imagine a nicer more luxurious location for our little reunion. My kids couldn't make up their mind which they liked more, the cottage and all its amenities, the landscaped and well treed lot, or the oversized (great for diving) cedar dock. It was all an absolute joy.
Real Estate agents will tell you that the three main things to look for in a home or cottage are location, location... and, well, location. This place sure has it. We rented a boat at the nearby marina and spent a glorious day travelling the length of Lake Rosseau. We even made our way into Lake Joseph. You can literally motor for hours on end and not see the same spot twice. (Be sure to take a map with you so that hopefully, sooner or later, you will see the same spot twice.)
The pictures and description accompanying this listing are a true testament to what awaits you at Rosseau House. Unfortunately, what doesn't come through quite as well is the smell of the pine, the sound of the loon, or the laughter that will surely be all around.
For that, you'll just have to go there.
The town of Rosseau is 5 minutes by car where you can find a great restaurant called Crossroads, an LCBO, a General Store and a bakery.
A canoe is there for your use.
There is a lovely road to walk down right behind the house.
Red Leaves Resort is 15 minutes by car where you can dine or visit the spa for a massage.
The Rock Golf Course is also right there.

To make a reservation we require 50% deposit by cheque. The remaining balance will be due 90 days
prior to arrival.
There is a cleaning fee of $175 and a refundable security deposit of $2000.
Maximum number of guests allowed on the property at any time is 7.
Check in time is 4pm and check out is 11am to allow for a thorough cleaning.
Payment is usually accepted in the quoted currency (CAD) unless the currency and the amount is specifically agreed in advance with the owner / advertiser.
