If your a fly-fisherman you have come to the right place. Excellent quality waters makes a large trout possible. Perhaps the family does not share the same passion for flyfishing, they can enjoy the cottage or go shopping in the hustle and bustle of Traverse City or Gaylord to return to the peace and quite of the river.

About Diane Wessels

I am an Interior Designer, part time. A greeting card designer, full-time. I spend most of my time working with tramatic brain injury adults creating beautiful greeting cards that we sell in several local shops. Its the best way to spend my time! My husband is a long time engineer looking forward to retirement some day soon. We are excited to share the RiverCottage.

Why Diane Wessels chose Grayling

When my husband and I met we quickly discovered that not only did we share a love of golf, but we also shared a love of fly-fishing. We traveled out west and fished the Bighorn in Montana, the Battenkill in Vermont and looked for property along the way. My husband has been fishing the Manistee for 30 years and my parents and grandparents owned property in the Grayling area so I have been travelling to the area since I was a kid. We decided that there is no place like Northern Michigan to golf and fish. Why would we want to be anywhere else? So we stumbled upon this place, made it our own with some minor and some major renovations and have enjoyed it ever since. Now with two daughters grown and one almost grown (yep, three girls!) we don't seem to get back as much as we would like. Instead of letting this beautiful place sit lonely, we decided to share the experience with those that appreciate the wildlife, a taut line and creating family memories to last a lifetime.

What makes this cottage unique

When we travel to the cottage we always have plans to golf at The Grayling Country Club or Fox Run. Do a day of canoeing, but once we arrive, it seems we do alot of lounging and sleeping in!!

Payment terms are explained in the Rental Contract. An advance copy of Rental Contract can be forwarded to you prior to confirmation of rental.
Fees And Taxes The RiverCottage is pet friendly. All animals must be house trained and cleaned up after. All pets are at an additional charge of $75.00 each.
There is a $250.00 cleaning fee, a $500.00 security deposit and sales tax.
Each additional person up to 10 is an additional fee of $35.00 per night, per person.
All Rates are subject to change until confirmation and deposit is received.

Payment is usually accepted in the quoted currency (USD) unless the currency and the amount is specifically agreed in advance with the owner / advertiser.

Notes: Although nestled in the woods on the rivers edge, the River Cottage would look right at home if located on the New England Coast. Its decor speaks to the notty pine of Northern Michigan but emulates the cedar shake architecture of the east coast. It has just enough rustic feel but also so cozy with a crackling fire. Almost 3000 square feet allows you the option of seeking some quiet privacy or family fun around the foosball table! Very unique to its location. This is a great location for SCRAPBOOKERS WEEKENDS. Plenty of room to spread out! Craft tables can be set up in game room.

Great Fishing Retreat

I organized a fly fishing trip for 7 of us to stay at this great property located directly on the main branch of the Manistee River. The owners, John and Diane were great to interact with during the booking process. Their 3 BR, 2 BA home was clean and spacious. The property was secluded, and had steps leading directly to their own dock on the river. Some of us went to Traverse City for an afternoon since it was a short 45 minutes to town. Thank you John and Diane for answering all of my questions before and during our stay. My buddies enjoyed the place, and said they were now spoiled for future fishing trips.
