Helotes Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Romantic Cottage Hideaway for Two, Hill Country Views, Dog Friendly!

The Carriage House is a charming loft space with a full kitchen, dining area, queen bed and concrete floors. The bedroom features an exposed limestone rock wall. The spacious bath doubles as a dressing room and features a large shower with a rain drop shower head. Every window in the cottage has a woodland view of trees, wildlife or horses. The seating area features a unique niche in the wall that mimics a fireplace and mantel. The front porch, with comfortable chairs is a great spot for greeting the morning with a cup of coffee and pastries. Around the back of the Carriage House are several spots to sit with a glass of wine or margarita and enjoy the hill country views. Find local info at www.shophelotes.com and www.liveatfloores.com. We are just 13 miles from Fiesta Texas and 15 miles from Seaworld. Local flavor restaurants include El Chaparral, Grey Moss Inn and Scenic Loop Cafe.

About Linda Klar

My great grandparents bought this property along with more than 500 acres so they could farm and run a dairy. Erich and Lydia Menger spent more than 30 years there. After their passing, their four children inherited the property. My grandmother, her brothers and their families continued farming but in 1973, it was decided to sell the property. As a little girl, I was devastated to lose my favorite playground. I vowed that someday I would by the ranch back. The man who bought the ranch sold off the acreage but in 2000 the seven acres that contained the original houses and sheds came on the market. With my husband's support, I WAS able to buy the ranch back! I also got the pony I'd always wanted from childhood.

Linda Klar purchased this cottage in 1929

Why Linda Klar chose Helotes

We enjoy the wildlife, the history, the farm ways. We hope you enjoy the charming old rock house, the vantage points from which you can relax and see the mountains.

Our special location allows you to enjoy Old Town Helotes with cute shops, market days, bicycling and live country music. Seaworld and Fiesta Texas are just 15 miles away. La Cantera mall offers department stores and your favorite shops. UTSA and Southwest Research are close by. And you can enjoy a day at the Riverwalk downtown and the retreat from the sounds of the city to the peaceful chirping of cicadas.

What makes this cottage unique

Government Canyon State Natural Area is closeby.

Darling

  • 5 of 5
What a darling place to spend our weekend. This was just perfect for us. Just the two of us, and our dogs. We were able to meet the owners and get the Grand Tour of the property. It is all so charming. The history of the farm, and the fact the it still remains in the family is fantastic. I encourage anyone to stay here. The cost compared to a 1 bedroom suite at any of the chain hotels is crazy. You so get more bang for your buck here. I give this place 5 stars!! Come spend the weekend!!! You will fall in Love, and never stay at a hotel again.

Owner's Response: Thanks, Tracy! Sometimes we can't believe our own good fortune that we were able to reclaim this ranch property back into the family. And it IS charming - almost like a movie set. My great-grandfather knew how to site and build beautiful limestone rock houses. I'm glad you found it a great value, too. The Carriage House is plenty roomy with a full kitchen, dining area, queen bed, entertainment space and generously-sized bathroom. Plus those breathtaking hill country views!

We look forward to seeing you back at the ranch again sometime really soon!

The title is almost correct. The location was rejuvenating but there was some traffic noise

  • 5 of 5
Regardless of my title review, my husband and I loved our stay in San Antonio. Our accommodations were absolutely beautiful and I loved our host's taste. The space was very well appointed. The property itself was gorgeous. The only minor flaw was that we heard traffic noise when outside. When inside you couldn't really hear it because of the solid rock walls, I think. When we were there we happened to meet the owner of the property who took the time to walk us around and tell us about the fascinating history of the property. Learning about it made us love it even more. I would recommend these accommodations to anyone visiting San Antonio but prefer to stay just a ways out of town.We would return in a heartbeat.

Owner's Response: We've just been approved as a certified wildlife habitat by the National Wildlife Federation! Our seven acres of trees, shrubs, grasses and rocks provides food, water, shelter and places to raise young. We supplement the natural resources with bird baths and seeds. It's a great place to spot colorful birds, cool lizards, deer, etc. Come see us again soon!

Peaceful location in the country

  • 4 of 5
We were looking for a peaceful location to relax, handy to hiking, the hill country and Floores Country Store. We really enjoyed the outdoor fireplace and eating facilities, and the horses. We appreciated the satellite TV and the Internet worked very well, and Linda made sure that we had what we asked for. It is a little far from the Riverwalk (if that is why you are in San Antonio) but close to Fredericksburg (fantastic Museum of the Pacific War) and Boerne, and the state parks offered enjoyable hiking days out. Also only 7 minutes to Cedar Creek Golf, which was the best of the courses we tried. (The cottage next door was suitable for families with children seeking horses to treat with carrots.)

We didn't want to leave!

We didn't want to leave!

Linda is the most hospitable and gracious host! I was traveling to San Antonio from Frozen, snow covered Minnesota for training and my boyfriend and dog were coming with me, so I wanted a place for quiet study time and relaxation where Romeo-the dog wouldn't be cooped up in a hotel room and a little escape from hustle and bustle.

My boyfriend dropped me off at training and headed to the cottage to unpack. Linda accommodated us checking in early and made us very welcome. Since I booked the cottage and hadn't seen it prior, I waited for a message on what my boyfriend thought...He sent me a note shortly after he got there saying 'I'm never leaving'. The cottage was perfect for us and Romeo...when I got there later in the evening, Romeo was acting like he owned the place and staged a protest when we needed to leave.

Linda emailed some links for things to do and a list of stores nearby prior to our trip and even offered to pick up anything else we found we needed (Linda, a huge thank you again for everything!).

El Chapparrel was busy, but delicious, groceries, gas, convenience and any other stores we needed were within minutes. The cottage was bigger than it looks and everything worked well from the tv to the grill and laundry...we felt like we were home!

I would definitely recommend staying here if you don't mind driving a few minutes into town and having nature right out the door. I wouldn't hesitate staying in the future...but next time...I may not leave. Ever. :)

We are a retired couple escaping our Denver winter for two weeks.........................

  • 5 of 5
What a find! An excellent location, so peaceful away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Old town Helotes is quaint and has Floores Country Store for country music and dancing. Being on 7 acres was so great and the Carriage House had everything we needed. The only thing I think renters should know beforehand is the water system is old so the water is salty with an odd smell. Enjoyed the horses too and would stay here again. If one needs more space, the Big House would be ideal.

Owner's Response: We are proud to say we have the only Concierge Pony in town! Our Welsh horses are only too happy to greet you at the fence each day for the possibility of a carrot or apple. Our Big Cottage IS a great alternative to our more intimate Carriage House. If you have more than just two people in your party, the Big Cottage offers three bedrooms, each with queen beds plus that great patio space and front porch with gorgeous hill country views. On the other hand, if you're party gets up over six, you can rent BOTH cottages so you can spread out and offer some folks a little more privacy. Our beautiful seven acres is just five miles from coffee shops, restaurants, grocery stores and more.
