LOCAL LIFE:
Bedar is well situated for walking. There are lovely walks to the village of Serena which is approximately 3km, and also walks in the valleys of the Filabres Mountains, where you will encounter
goat herds feeding off the pastures. There is also a beautiful 30 minute drive inland to Lubrin, which
is another authentic Spanish village, with local restaurants and tapas bars. Heading down to Mojacar beach you drive through the town of Turre where you will find many restaurants and shops. Continuing towards the coast you will see the old town of Mojacar clinging to the hillside, here you will find many nice tourist shops, restaurants and walks on cobbled streets with spectacular views towards Bedar, Mojacar beach and Garrucha. We also recommend a drive out to the National Park of Cabo de Gata which is a must - and you should definitely stop for lunch at San José. You can find more information in the house as there is too much to mention in this brochure.
SPORT AND CULTURE:
There are many golf courses near the house, with the most famous being Desert Springs which is the only official golf course situated in a desert in Europe. Also, about 20 minutes away is Valle d'est Golf and Spa,and Marina golf, an 18 hole course just off Mojacar beach.
Tennis, Horse-riding (on the beach and in the mountains) and a variety of water activities including a water park at Vera (20 minutes) can be found nearby. Bull fights don’t happen every week but with the re-opening of the fine, restored bull ring in Vera, occur several times a year. Small concerts and art exhibitions are also a feature of the summer season, as are flamenco events.
AROUND AND ABOUT:
A short way along the coast is the fishing village of Garrucha, where you can watch the fishing boats return in the evening before having a drink and a tapas while you think about your evening meal. The film sets used for spaghetti
westerns such as ‘The good, the bad and the ugly’ are open for visitors this side of Almeria. Shows are given several times a day. A little further afield is Granada, where the Alhambra beckons anyone who hasn’t been there and many who have. If you feel like a longer trip, Cordoba, Sevilla and Jerez are all in this corner of Spain but be prepared to spend more than one night away if you want to have a little time there.
