Country living on a grand scale awaits you at Moulin de Malicorne, where you will enjoy the total privacy of a beautifully furnished mill house with full kitchen and fireplace, swimming pool, fishing lake, streams and waterfalls on 6.5 acres in the scenic Loire Valley. Whether you’re a party of two or eight, the entire estate is yours during your stay. Take the arched footbridge to our island and picnic under the willows. Or row through the lily pads to the center of the lake, trailing bread crumbs for the geese trailing behind you. Swimming under the stars, surrounded by nature is a special treat, and dusk is a great time for taking our bikes past sunflower fields and troglodyte dwellings where Joan of Arc rested. Our nearby towns are Ste. Maure de Touraine, famous for its goat cheese and 4th-century tombs, and St. Epain, a quiet village with a 12th-century church. Chateaux and wineries can be found a short distance in every direction.

Moulin de Malicorne straddles the border of two charming little villages--Ste. Maure de Touraine and St. Epain. The Ste. Maure town square is about two miles away--an easy bike ride from the moulin. Famous for its goat cheese and its outdoor book fairs, Ste. Maure boasts several excellent restaurants, delightful bakeries, banks (with ATM machines), and a bustling open-air farmer's market every Friday morning. About a mile down the road in the Vallee de Courtineau is this 14th-century troglodyte chapel carved into the solid rock of the valley walls. In town, you can explore the ruins of a 14th-century château. Just down the road from the moulin, there are ancient troglodyte dwellings and 4th-century tombs. The Moulin is within a half-hour drive of medieval towns and famous chateaux including Chenonceau, Azay-le-Rideau, Villandry, Loches, Chinon, and Tours.

There are two other bedrooms on this floor, one with a queen bed and the other with two singles. A second bathroom features a shower and sink. There is also a WC off the main hall. All the rooms have beautiful views of the gardens, pool and/or the flower-filled courtyard. The ground-floor bedroom has two single beds and a sink, and right outside the door is a WC.

Location and transporation: The moulin is in Ste. Maure de Touraine, 2.5 hours south west of Paris by car and just 30 minutes south of Tours. The TGV (high speed train) goes from Tours to Paris in one hour. Most international guests fly to a Paris airport (Charles de Gaulle or Orly) and rent a car to drive to the moulin. Some take the TGV to Tours and rent a car there.

Lovely old mill house

We had a delightful week in the "Moulin" in a convenient location south of Tours, just off the freeway near St Maure-de-Tourraine. It is a beautiful converted mill full of character with an excellent kitchen to cook in, 2 good living rooms and 3 bedrooms in the main house. The small cottage adjoining is fairly basic, but would be good for teenagers. The caretakers are delightful although have minimal English, but sign language does well. It was lovely to be greated with local wine and cheese, fruit and flowers. The geese are endlessly entertaining. The pool was advertised as heated but was not, however, it was too cold to swim anyway. The house is in a cool shady quiet valley - would be ideal in the heat of summer. The owners provide a comprehensive guide to the property and surrounding areas. However, I believe the route from the freeway has changed - it is the first left on the roundabout not the second.
I would certainly recommend this property to a friend and would like to come back again myself. We enjoyed the many chateaux and the surrounding towns particularly Chinon and Loches.
