Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6-8)

Private family cabin available for rental during month of July. Located on Birch Lake- a 20 mile long lake, rated as one of the best walleye fishing lakes in MN and connected to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) via the South Kawishiwi River. Very private, beautiful setting! Cabin is approximately 5 miles from Babbitt, and 17 miles from Ely. Travel down a 2 mile forested gravel road to a cabin nestled among mature pine and birch trees on 3 acres of land and 700 feet of privately owned lakeshore.

Main level features popular open floor plan, with kitchen/dining area opening to sky-lighted living room with wood-burning fireplace. 3 season porch faces the lake to catch afternoon breezes; accessible through living room and master bedroom French doors. 2 bedrooms (queen and full size beds), plus large loft with 2 twin beds that open to main level below. Very comfortable queen futon in main living space for overflow sleeping. Walkout unfinished basement with ping pong table. Central air conditioning, well-stocked and fully equipped modern kitchen with dishwasher. Spacious bathroom with shower and amenities. New washer/dryer in walkout basement.

About Deb Williamson

We built our cabin in 2000 after owning our lakeshore since 1988. We use it throughout much of the year, but spend time visiting out-of-state family in July, so thought it would be a good opportunity to rent it out during this time to help pay the property taxes!

Why Deb Williamson chose Ely

Birch Lake is amazing- most of the lakeshore is Superior National Forest, with numerous islands and countless bays and inlets for walleye fishing, boating and swimming. It has a very private, north woods feel. Of all the lakes we have visited over the years, Birch Lake has always been our very favorite get-away destination- and a perfect place for a family cabin!

What makes this cabin unique

Enjoy a walk or mountain bike ride on the 2 mile gravel road through the woods. Spend a lazy afternoon fishing or swimming from the dock, or kayaking to the nearby island, followed by a nap in the hammock. Watch the sun set from a bench on the point, or listen to the loons while you sit by the campfire in the evening.

Birch Lake is known for trophy walleyes, forested shores, hundreds of secluded bays, and abundant wildlife such as eagles, bears, and moose. Enjoy evening loon serenades and the occasional howling of wolves. Birch Lake is ideal for boating, camping, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and swimming.

Nearby Ely, MN: Enjoy the many amenities of this unique destination town located on the border of the BWCAW, including many shops, restaurants, museums and exhibits. Well-known as the home of the International Wolf Center, the North American Bear Center, and the Dorothy Molter Museum. Tours of the nearby Soudan Underground Mine State Park offer a glimpse into the world of underground mining and an underground physics lab.

Don’t miss Ely’s annual Blueberry Art Festival, July 27-29th.

This is going to the be most fun weekend EVER!

Thank you so much for allowing us into your beautiful home. Upon seeing the cabin for the 1st time, my 8 year old exclaimed "This is going to be the most fun weekend EVER!" And it was. We boated, tubed, canoed, fished, swam, played board games, and visited the International Wolf Center and North American Bear Center.
Your cabin is gorgeous and we had everything we could possibly need. The beds were very comfortable and the whole place was extremely clean. We felt at home immediately and would love to stay here again.
Recommended for:  Adventure Seekers, Sightseeing, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

Great family getaway

This lakehome with it's gorgeous views of the lake was a great getaway for our family of 5 - with three teen-aged/young adult kids & our dog! We enjoyed great fishing (walleyes!), great weather & a lot of water sports including kayaking & canoeing, which were included with the cabin. We also drove to Ely for a round of golf & shopping.
The lakehome itself was beautiful & well furnished & just as advertised - we didn't want for anything! We had big family dinners each night at the cabin & everything we needed for grilling & cooking was provided. We brought a TV/Xbox in case we wanted to watch some movies & never took it out of the car!
The only minor cons of this place would be the lack of a beach area at the shore - pretty rocky, however we were able to swim off the end of the dock & boat to other swimming areas. Also, the small hill to & from the cabin was fine for our group, but could be difficult for younger or older visitors.
Lastly, the owner was great to deal with - very professional, knowledgeable & answered all of questions in a timely manner and some before we even asked :)
