One of a kind Island Adventure, Spider Lake
This island provides some of the best beach on Spider Lake and it will become your sole vacation site as no one else lives on the island. The only cabin is both rustic and modern with a large refrigerator and flat top electric stove. WI-FI wireless internet is on site. A large flat screen digital TV with local channels and DVD player is included. The cabin is completely furnished and will sleep 8, although privacy is limited due its open floor plan. A large front porch and deck, plus a lakeside deck are great for gatherings. The island features several picnic tables for dining. A canoe, kayak, row boat and paddle boat are included for your use. You are allowed use of a pontoon boat if a responsibility waiver is signed. Lots of water toys for the kids. Shower and bathroom facilities are provided outside the main cabin and are clean and convenient. Parking is available for two cars at the owners home about 1/3 of a mile away. This is an island paradise from which you will not want to leave. It is wonderful for children and adults alike as everyone can find room to relax and explore. Horseshoe courts and several other games are on the island. The island also has many areas for tent camping or overflow sleeping and many little nooks for space to yourself. A brief description, such as this, can not adequately explain the island amenities. It will truly be a matchless experience. This, one of a kind, island and facility is available only because it helps the retired owners pay the island expenses. Signs will be posted during your stay notifying others to respect your privacy. Absolute privacy may be hard to guarantee because of past history of use at the East end, but it has not been a problem. The East end of the island has a gate that must be opened which affords additional privacy. The island will be available for no more than 6 weeks during the months of June-August. A first come, first serve basis will be used to reserve your vacation.
Rent is $2750.00 per week and is discounted for multiple weeks. Check-in is at 2 PM and check out is 10 AM on Saturdays, unless otherwise arranged. A $500.00 reservation/booking fee must be paid to reserve your dates. Payment in full is required on arrival. Shorter stays may be allowed at the last moment, but generally the island is rented on a weekly basis.
As soon as the $500.00 booking fee is paid, it will lock-in your reservation and it will become your refundable damage deposit. We would anticipate a full return upon your departure.

Sue and I are now retired and spend much our time on the island during the summer weeks. We reserve some prime time for ourselves and family.
We have two children and 5 teenage granddaughters.
Jack or Sue Leishman purchased this cabin in 1999
The Traverse City area is unique for tourists. The island is our preferred residence and we believe you will love as much as we do. We have lived on Spider lake since 1974 and treasure the lake as much as our island retreat. The morning solitude is is a favorite time for us. The island is directly across the lake from our house from which you will depart.
You will experience the full gamut of life on an island. Everywhere you look is water. The beach areas are safe for children, but they will require close supervision until they learn to swim. It is about a 5 minute ride by boat to your car. This has been a longtime favorite summer destination for many. We do not to rent it for more than 6 prime time weeks per year. Pets are free to swim and roam. It is a wonderland for pets and children, without worry of cars or roads. Water Trampolines, Jet Skis and Ski Boats are available on the lake as rentals by other parties.
My partner Tim and I had a wonderful week with our two dogs and friends on Treasure Island in the middle of Spider Lake. Tim had grown up vacationing at a now defunct resort on the end of the lake called L'DaRu and was thrilled to find various artefacts and references from his childhood as part of the decor of the cabin. Jack and Sue are among the leaders of the whole happy Spider Lake community and when the island isn't being rented, seem to welcome visitors by boat to enjoy the island's many amenities. But it felt like ours completely during our stay there. No one quite knows how the chimpmunky animals came to inhabit the island, but they're there and provided our pups with endless chasing fun.
Rent with confidence if you love water, boats, privacy, and rustic comfort.
I cannot say enough about this place. First of all the owners are more than accommodating and just wonderful people all around. We used their pontoon boat which was a wonderful add on. The cabin is clean, nice size and very well equipped with everything you need including cable tv, stereo and a computer with internet. The outdoor space is spectacular. You are literally on your own island with more privacy than you could ask for. Lots of space to sit, relax, enjoy. There are games to play and the little beach spots all around with several piers to fish off and just hang out. This space is good for small or large groups and our dogs were in heaven exploring the island. Thank you Jack an Sue, we cannot wait to come back!
Treasure Island really is one of a kind. Our party of 4 adults and 2 pups enjoyed a fabulous late-summer visit that turned out to be far beyond our expectations. First, Jack & Sue are gracious hosts, who took the time to give us a tour of their spectacular island and then let us be. Their generosity -- evident in numerous postings to their neighbors and friends to whom they've opened their home -- permeates the grounds. They're the kind of neighbors all of us hope to be.
Second, the island itself is spectacular, with quirky, interesting decor everywhere. Our seasoned city dogs frolicked like giddy puppies all over the grounds, exploring every corner and proving that, yes, they *are* water dogs. What a joy it was to watch them play with abandon and without tethers or collars or reprimands. They even behaved themselves on the pontoon, much to my surprise. (And Spider Lake was stunning, clean, swimmable, and full of interesting inlets that beckoned us on our pontoon outings.) The island includes numerous nooks and crannies, spaces for quiet reading, eating with friends, sunning and swimming, playing cards, or just listening to the pines, the loons, and the woodpeckers. There are chairs, swings, and picnic tables everywhere. At night, the grounds are well lit by the campfire and the overhead, ambient lights that illuminate the two horseshoe pits. It would be a fabulous place to gather with children, itching to explore and play games while the adults tend the fire, the s'mores, and the burgers (on one of 3 propane grills).
Finally, pictures cannot do justice to the home. There are curtains rather than doors to separate the 3 bedrooms, yet the bedrooms feel defined and roomy. The 2 queen beds were very comfortable, and I'll bet that the 2 bunk beds are a hit with kids. The living / dining room is spacious, but we spent little time inside. The bath house, deluxe "outhouse," and (inside the home) bathroom were all exceptionally clean and well equipped. And the kitchen was perhaps the biggest surprise, with room for multiple cooks and everything you'd need.
I can't recommend Treasure Island enthusiastically enough. We can't wait to return next summer.
We've done a yearly get together with guys from all across the country for 7 years now, and this just became the best thing that ever happened to that trip. The photos don't do it justice. Jack and Sue are amazing. We took taxis in to Traverse City every night to enjoy drinks without a problem. The boats were great. We didn't have a problem with bugs and we always felt safe, except for a huge curious snapping turtle. We caught fish, swam, grilled, had bonfires, played cornhole and enjoyed the outdoor speakers all day and night. Fabulous place.
This was a great vacation! If you like water sports then this could be your paradise too! Secluded but close to some great attractions. Traverse City is minutes away and Macinac Island is about an hour, but you never have to leave the island because it's just perfect all by itself. My kids loved the island, they're 15 and 12. The owners were great and very helpful. We also loved "our" chipmunk Sherman, my daughter named, that visited every day. A very good restaurant we would recommend is The Old Mission Tavern, on the peninsula in Traverse City. Beautiful sunrises awaken you and beautiful sunsets to finish your day. Relax and enjoy
Treasure Island was even better than expected. First - the owners are fantastic hosts. We booked the island at the last minute and they were so very accomodating. And, when we got there, it was like visiting family, or should I say family you like to visit.
Next, having an island completely to yourself was just amazing. I was very surprised on what the island had to offer: pontoon, kayak, raft, canoe, water toys, horse shoes, frisbees, 2 gas grills, 3 deck areas, sandy beaches, and more. We played on every part of that beach. Best of all - I have 2 dogs that could just run around and be dogs. When we first got there, we took off their collars and just let them run and run. Over an hour later they finally slowed down. They were excited and I was excited for them. Also, this island is not far from another island that we took the paddle boat and kayak to. The dogs swam.
We rented a wave runner and had the perfect launching point for knee boarding, skiing, and tubing.
The main cabin was nicer than I expected too. I have no idea where the decorations came from, but they're fun and interesting. The bedroom areas were clean, but not all to private - but very doable. The kitchen was very good compared to other cabins I've been too. The shower was in a separate building steps away from the cabin and was very nice. There is an outhouse, which scares most - but it was the nicest outhouse ever. And there is a toilet in the main cabin for nightly business.
If the idea of vacationing on an island appeals to you, but your a little nervous - don't be. Lastly, if you do go and you're trying to figure out where to buy groceries from - go to Oleson's Food Store. It's very close and has exceptional deli foods, meats, produce, etc.
