Truly one-of-a-kind, Casa Chica de Cortes is an elegantly restored and decorated 16th-century colonial jewel in the historic heart of Cuernavaca. The house has three bedrooms, each with en-suite bathroom, a pool with terraces in sun and shade, and a lovely mature garden. It is the perfect place for relaxing, studying, working or entertaining in a wonderful ambience of culture and luxury. The famous Robert Brady Museum, the Borda Gardens and several fine restaurants are just steps away.
Exquisite examples of Mexican art and sculpture, collected by the owner, are perfectly placed in rooms bright with silver-framed mirrors and niches holding ancient figurines. An antique wrought-iron candelabra illuminates the dark wooden dining table, and Mexican tile floors gleam in every part of the house. Sparkling fountains and fabulous sculpture soothe the senses in the peaceful garden. A long gallery – a covered sitting area opening onto the garden and ideal for a cocktail party – runs the length of the house, ending at the pool. Located off the gallery are the soft-white master bedroom and a beautifully bright guest bedroom, furnished with treasures from the owner’s travels through India.
The pool terrace, with a seating nook highlighted by a trompe d’oeil fresco, leads to the charming one-bedroom guest house. A second-story “mirador” or overlook, reached by a garden staircase, is the crowning touch over this property with dramatic views of the Cuernavaca cathedral and Cortes’ Palace, both of which the Conquistador Hernan Cortes built in the 16th century.
The house is fully staffed with maid, cook, gardener and houseman. Amenities include: Internet, cable TV and local telephone. Renters pay extra for propane gas, long-distance and cell phone calls, plus tips for the staff.
