The pictures are a little misleading.
Let me start by saying this is our 4th trip to Maui and we have stayed at the Ridges 3 years in a row. The condo we normally rent is being remodeled so we choose this condo based on the views even though the interior looked a little dated. Big mistake. The views are not exactly as you see in the pictures. I tried every way from the lanai to get the view they show in the pictures and the only way to get it is to go to the patio of the condo next door, and zoom out the driveways and condos below. We normally spend every morning on the patio, here we were out there one day because the view is not as spectacular as the pictures. Now we are a little jaded, the condo we stay in has UNOBSTRUCTED 180 degree views of the ocean and Molokai. The pictures for this condo seem to have the same view but does not. Lets move on to the interior. We have gone to multiple open houses looking to buy one of these condos so we are familiar with condition. This condo is in the original 1979 condition except for the appliances in the kitchen. The carpet is matted and stained, paint peeling at the window frames, original tile in all baths and kitchen, extremely dated. Sometimes that is ok, we have seen two condos in original condition that were immaculate, this condo was not! I wish I could post the pictures I took, damaged cabinets in bath (dangerous for my 20 month old with sharp edges) toilet seat with paint stripped off and rusty screws, it looked disgusting and how expensive is it to replace that? The AC in living room was too small to cool the room and it was 89 degrees the week we stayed there. The closet smelled so bad I didn't want my clothes in there. The washing machine was so loud we thought it was taking flight. We had two broken dining room chairs, one of which my 20 month old fell off of because the armrest was broken and slide down causing her to fall. The other chair I sat down on and the wheel fell off. Fortunately I didn't fall since I am 7 months pregnant!!! The TV broke before we got there and they brought in a small temporary TV promising to replace in 1-2 days, 6 days later they finally brought it without contacting us coming in without our permission. All in all it was quite disappointing. If you haven't stayed somewhere like this you might think it is great for the price, unfortunately we stayed in a much nicer condo with a better view for the same price. FYI management company never responded to my complaints!
Owner's Response: First we would like to express that we would never try to mislead anyone with our photos, as at Quam Properties we personally take the photos and do not enhance them. The lanai photo was taken from this condo's lanai and although some shots are zoomed in, not to mislead anyone, but to show the beauty of the water and surrounding islands. As the photos show, this condo is quite spacious and does have beautiful panoramic views. However, the photos also reflect that it is in original condition and we are working with the owner to address some of the interior issues such as the replacement of the carpet. This is a light colored carpet which we have cleaned frequently, but with normal wear and tear due to rental traffic, it does have some staining. Also Quam Properties did discover that the TV was not working prior to the guest’s arrival. We advised the guest and did substitute the non-working TV with a LCD 40 inch TV for their arrival. We also replaced the interim TV with a brand new 55 inch TV which was purchased on a Friday and replaced on a Monday. Unfortunately, our office never received any calls regarding any of the issues or we would have responded promptly, as we did when the guest forgot their check-in package with entry codes and parking passes. We did receive an email after they checked out, and our maintenance department immediately fixed the chairs and replaced the toilet seats. Our office also called the guest on the phone number that was left on the email and asked them to call to discuss their experience. We have not heard back from the guests. We make every effort to respond to any issues that arise and we are very apologetic that this guest had an unpleasant experience.
