Cottage with games room and tennis court in the Braes of Gowrie, near Dundee

On site we have 3 properties, all with wi-fi in the living areas. The sandstone steading building is in an L shape with the long part of the 'L' housing the 3 bedroom property, Outfield, and the shorter part of the 'L' housing the 2 bedroom property, Pitmiddle. These properties are therefore semi-detached and these 2 properties can be used as one large property when the interconnecting door is unlocked (this gives you a large 5 bedroom cottage called Pitfield).

Also on site backing on to Pitmiddle you have the detached 1 bedroom cottage Honeysuckle.

All guests are able to have shared use of the on site tennis court and games room. The surrounding garden area around Pitmiddle Outfield and Honeysuckle is not fenced. The properties are on a very small farm accessed via a farm road.

We have tried to be as environmentally friendly as we can with our holiday houses. When we converted Pitmiddle and Outfield from farm buildings into accommodation we kept the same footprint so some stables are now bedrooms! We have used reclaimed wooden flooring and the houses are powered by a geothermal ground source heat pump. Our water supply comes off the hill and is filtered in our water treatment area before going to the houses. All our fixtures and fittings are sourced locally.

In order to increase our green credentials even more we are now excited to announce that we have just put up a small 18 m wind turbine on the hill behind the holiday houses. It is only an 11 kw turbine but we hope that after its first year we will have generated enough kw hours to cover our on site electrical needs.

This 3 bedroom property has a large east facing patio and private parking beside the house. Guests are able to have shared use of the tennis court, summer house and games room. The surrounding garden area is shared and not fenced. The property is on a very small farm. The accommodation is on 2 levels, the upper level was once a hay loft and therefore has low level windows as well as velux windows. This level houses the large master bedroom with its en suite bathroom with shower over the bath. The beds can be a superking (6 foot wide) or the beds can be separated to form 2 singles in all of the 3 bedrooms. On the ground level of the accommodation you have the open plan kitchen/dining/sitting area. The sitting area has huge tall windows and patio doors effectively bringing the outside views in. There is an open fire place and leather seating. The bathroom is next door. 3 steps up and you have 2 small bedrooms side by side.

About Suki Stobbs

I live on site with my family in The Farmhouse. I was born and brought up in Scotland. Property is my business and these holiday rentals are part of that business. I work from home so am delighted to bump into guests and have a chat! Feel free to ask about things to see and do in the area or further afield. You will spot me walking my unruly dogs!

Why Suki Stobbs chose Perth Area

We moved to this location from Fife as it was half way between Perth and Dundee where we had business interests We wanted great views and country location. In fact the location is a winner for most people who come here - some want proximity to Dundee, others want easy access to Edinburgh and others want to be able to get to St. Andrews and all of the golf courses over in Fife. We took a few years to convert an old farm steading into the holiday cottages called Pitmiddle and Outfield. We are delighted with the result and opened for business way back in 2005, can't believe it is that long ago. Honeysuckle always existed as a little bothy so we decorated it in the same colours and promoted it from a long term rental to a holiday let.

We have tried to cover every eventuality offering a 1 bedroom cottage, 2 bedroom cottage, 3 bedroom cottage or the 2 joined together to give a 5 bedroom cottage.

What makes this cottage unique

As you walk around up here you have the most fantastic views towards Abernyte village, The River Tay and King's Seat. You feel on top of the world - almost alpine (especially in the snow!). All guests can use the summer house above the tennis court and take in the rolling countryside around us. We are however only 20 minutes by car to either Dundee or Perth city centres.

We are trying hard to be green - you will spot our new wind turbine which we hope will cover our electricity costs - it's only a little one but we have high hopes! All properties have reclaimed wooden flooring and use a soak away drainage system. We also have our own private water supply with its water treatment room where the water is constantly filtered and backwashed daily. Pitmiddle and Outfield also benefit from underfloor heating powered by the ground source heat pump in Outfield.

We hope too you will enjoy the animals round about. We have our own alpacas and hens and in the summer our neighbouring farmer puts some of his sheep in 1 of our fields. We do also provide satellite wifi for our guests which is now something I believe people come to expect. Help yourselves to logs, they all come from here.

Fantastic Hosts

We arrived after an all night flight from US to Glasgow to attend the Ryder Cup. A 45 minute drive from airport(pay attention to directions from Suki on rural roads after the motorway). Easy drive to St.Andrews, 1 hour to Edinborough, nice town of Perth and Crieff. Tim was kind of enough to give us a lift to the bus shuttle to Gleneagles for the Ryder Cup match on Saturday. Beautiful countryside.

Wondeful place for wondeful holidays

The Outfield cottage is a perfect place to have a nice holiday. It is a very nice house, clean and in a very calm countryside, without midges (!), with a well-equipped kitchen, a big barbecue and a fireplace very enjoyable during the cold and rainy days of this last "crazy weather" August. The tennis court and the game room are perfect for children, but also for adults.

The location is perfect to visit Scotland, because is close to the highways to Edinburg, Glasgow, Perth, Dundee and Aberdeen. The wonderful cities of St. Andrews and Stirling are only an half hour away.

We've loved the warm welcome of the hosts and their discretion, particularly for helping us during a momentary health problem, clear up with the medical cure at the Muirhead health center.

We had a very beautiful holiday and we strongly recommend this place.

Outfield è un bellissimo cottage dove fare una vacanza in Scozia. E' un cottage dotato di tutti i comfort, pulito, in una zona libera dai famosi pappataci scozzesi (midge), con una cucina ben attrezzata, un grande barbecue esterno e un caminetto interno utile nei giorni di freddo e pioggia (che in Scozia possono capitare sempre, come in quest'ultimo pazzo agosto). Il campo da tennis e la sala giochi (con mini biliardo, tavolo da ping pong e freccette) sono ottimi sia per i ragazzi che per gli adulti.

Il posto è ideale per visitare la Scozia, perché è vicino alle autostrade per Edimburgo, Glasgow, Perth, Dundee e Aberdeen. Le bellissime città di St. Andrews e Stirling distano solo mezz'ora di auto.

Abbiamo apprezzato l'accoglienza, la gentilezza e il calore tipico degli scozzesi da parte dei nostri padroni di casa, ma anche la loro riservatezza e soprattutto il loro aiuto durante un piccolo problema di salute, risolto al vicino centro medico di Muirhead.

Abbiamo passato due settimane bellissime e raccomandiamo caldamente questo luogo e questa casa.

Owner's Response: We very much enjoyed meeting this family who drove all the way from Italy.

We are very centrally located for visiting different parts of Scotland and in their 2 week stay they even managed a trip west to The Isle of Skye to find some sunshine.

The August weather in central and eastern Scotland saw the most rainfall in 60 years during their visit, it was truly awful and for that we can only apologise! This much rain in August is not normal!

We are located 20 minutes from a major hospital in Dundee with Accident and Emergency Facilities and our own health centre which is also 20 minutes away welcomes our holiday guests if they need to see a doctor, guests just need to speak to Suki to book an appointment.

This property is on a small farm in The Carse of Gowrie only a mile from Abernyte. We are 20 minutes from Dundee city centre and 20 minutes (by car) from Perth city centre. Although rural we are about 7 minutes by car to the dual carriageway and then it is an hour to Edinburgh or an hour and a bit to the outskirts of Glasgow or within an hour you are up in the Highlands. Golf in Blairgowrie is 20 minutes away or golf in St. Andrews is 40 minutes away. Fishing in nearby lochs or on The River Tay is all within easy reach.

Other Activities: Shared table tennis and pool table on site as will as tennis court and walking

Golf: Blairgowrie golf course is within a 20 minute drive, it has the superb Rosemount and Landsdowne courses as well as the Wee Course. Visitor rates can be found on their website.

There is also golfing at Piperdam resort and then 40 minutes away you have all the courses of St. Andrews.

Ski: Just over an hour away you have the slopes of Glenshee. Or the far side of Edinburgh you have the artificial ski slope at Hillend.

There are 3 steps from the downstairs bedrooms down to the bathroom and sitting room/kitchen area so suitable for those with limited mobility.
