Photos and Description of the Islay & Mid Argyll vacation villa rental
luxury self-catering holiday homes, full of character, near beach.

Kintyre is an idyllic holiday destination with some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in Scotland. With crystal clear waters, sandy beaches and loads of wildlife, we usually have the best of the Scottish weather too courtesy of the Gulf Stream warming our climate! There is lots to see and do should you so desire, alternatively simply absorb the tranquil atmosphere of this beautiful location and do absolutely nothing!!!

Killean Estate offers several gorgeous period cottages and villas, sleeping 2,4,6,9 as well as a baronial style mansion house which sleeps 20. Cosy and welcoming, all have oodles of character yet have recently been renovated to provide fabulous modern facilities. With 4,000 acres of rolling hills, burns, woodland, lochs and tropical gardens to explore, and the most amazing views of the ocean and islands beyond, this really is a fantastic location, perfect for a romantic get-away, relaxing summer break or a family adventure holiday.

Shooting: Throughout the season we offer excellent walked up and driven shooting on the estate. Dawn or dusk deer stalking is also available for those shooting or whether you have a camera in hand. Our Gamekeeper can also set up the clay pigeon shooting apparatus for your use upon request.

Fishing: There are three lochs on the estate stocked with brown trout, which all guests staying at Killean are free to fish with our compliments. There is also the opportunity to fish from the beach.

Surfing: Nearby Westport beach offers fantastic surfing opportunities as well as a gorgeous sandy beach running around the bay. Around the headland from here is Machrihanish Bay, one of Scotland's top surfing hot-spots. Both are reached within 20 minutes by car.

Send us an email via the link below, check us out on our killean estate website or search for us on facebook for lots more information on everything available on the estate itself or in the nearby area.

Everything was first class

Submitted: September 3, 2010 Stayed: June 2010
Carol, Just a short note to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Killean Villa. Everything was 1st Class. Both my wife and I and our guests really enjoyed the house and it's location. A special thanks to David who really went out of his way to ensure our stay was extra special and for the card and wine which was a very thoughtful and personal touch. I really enjoyed my chat also with Archie about the local history. We were in a bit of a rush yesterday morning and the only thing we forgot to mention was that the water get's really too hot. One of our guests got quite a burn from the metal mixer in the shower cubicle. The water get's so hot that it heated the metal in the mixer to such an extent that when he touched it with his bicep it left quite a burn. So something to watch out for, a child could get a very bad burn/scald. So with the exception of that concern, a thoroughly enjoyable experience that we would like to try to repeat in the future. Can we also recommend our caterer to other guests, Valerie Marshall from Tarbert 07824861254 (Bedsheadsandnosh) was absolutely brilliant and put allot of expensive Edinburgh establishments in the shade. Her efficiency , choice of ingredients (all locally sourced) and service was wonderful. Kind regards, hope to see Killean again. George & Farnaz Taylor, Edinburgh

NB FROM KILLEAN - WE IMMEDIATELY INSPECTED THE WATER AND FOUND THE THERMOSTAT TO BE FAULTY AND REPLACED THIS BEFORE OUR NEXT GUESTS ARRIVAL.

it was the perfect house for us

Submitted: September 3, 2010 Stayed: August 2010
David, hello, Thank you so much, we had a wonderful stay at Villa House last week, it was the perfect house for us. The kitchen was thoroughly enjoyed by cooks and non cooks equally and the lovely dining room with ample room and the wonderful view made all our meals so much more enjoyable. Thank you for leaving the high chairs and cots, they were welcome as it meant we didn't have to fit them in the car with everything else needed! We didn't have barbeque weather but it was good to know that the facility was there if we wanted. I would have appreciated soap at the wash hand basins when we arrived but I bought some at the local shop and left it for the next people. We tried to tidy and clean before we left but didn't get around to washing the floor by the back door, sorry. I will get feedback from the other families and report back, I'll ask about photos too and let you know. Kind regards, Joanna

very comfortable and spacious

Submitted: September 3, 2010 Stayed: August 2010
The three generations of the Carson family had a very enjoyable week at Killean in spite of the mixed weather. The Villa House is very comfortable and spacious enough for all of us to find a quiet corner to escape with a book or watch the bird life. Whilst the weather was mixed, I much enjoyed my walking and swimming and managed to see that otter last Friday.

No complaints at all about the accommodation. If there was anything by way of constructive feedback the only thing that we did find off puting on arrival was the proliferation of 'rules'! Perhaps though that is a reflection on past tenants and we have always tried to leave our holiday houses in a clean and tidy state. The only other thing would be that for serious cooks a few more kitchen gadgets would be great (simple electric mixer/beater and hand blender).

We take a large house in Argyll annually and will certainly keep Killean on our list.

the house and location was fabulous

Submitted: July 7, 2010 Stayed: May 2009
We had a fantastic holiday at Killean Estate. The house and location was fabulous. Everything you need is there waiting for you. Archie and Romey were both very pleasant and helpful. My mother was in her element with both the house and the scenery. I always thought sunsets like that were just in our imagination! The beach was also great for my husband to fish and for myself to watch the seals. Thanks again for the upgrade - it was very much appreciated as we have been in Kintyre before, we would have been disappointed not to have stayed in that area. We hope to be back again at the end of the summer. We would appreciate if you can let us know when Drumnamucklach cottages are available. We were pushed for time on Friday morning when we left and later remembered we did not sign the visitors book. We are sorry for this as we had only one complaint as we left...we didn't want to! Thanks again, a very happy customer

We found the property to be absolutely fabulous

Submitted: July 7, 2010 Stayed: August 2008
We found the property to be absolutely fabulous, and the location truly stunning. We had one problem on the first day as the oven was working as it should but Archie and his wife cooked the kids dinner in their own kitchen and the problem was rectified within 24 hours, they were both very helpful. We would have no hesitation in recommending your company or the Killean Estate to friends and family and would dearly love to return in the near future. Thank you for a very enjoyable and memorable holiday, oh and incidently, the weather was fantastic, returned home with a rare commodity..a Scottish sun tan!’
