About Barbara

We are a family of four that loves to travel, especially when it involves skiing and snowboarding. As professors and authors, we have enjoyed using our cabins as a peaceful place to write without distractions. And as avid world travelers, we've filled the cabins with treasures we've brought back from our many journeys.

Barbara purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Barbara chose Wrightwood

Why the Owner Chose Wrightwood: We chose to buy a cabin in Wrightwood in part for the convenience to Mountain High for skiing and snowboarding, but especially to enjoy this quaint little mountain town and the beautiful natural environment that surrounds it. Cool summers and snowy winters - a perfect mountain getaway from L.A.! After using our cabin we fell so in love with Wrightwood that we moved here full time, which means our cabin is now available year-round for others to enjoy.

What makes this cabin unique

Staying in one of our Wrightwood cabins offers a chance to relax and enjoy quality family time when we're not on the slopes. We spend our time reading, playing board games, going for walks and hikes, and enjoying the sauna (cabin hot tub jacuzzi soon to come!).

Hideaway Review

  • 5 of 5

While we didn't meet Barbara in person, she was a great host based on our email communication with her and our experience with the property. This was a last minute trip we planned and had questions for Barbara who responded immediately and was extremely accommodating. The cabin was exactly as described and included very detailed instructions for every question we could think of. The property was well stocked with all the necessities. The place was well organized and very clean. If we ever decide to come back to Wrightwood, we will definitely stay at the Hideaway again.

Cozy, comfortable, clean, & charming cabin!

  • 5 of 5

This hideaway charming 1BR cabin was just perfect. It was clean, comfortable, and had all the necessities (tv, music, fridge, hot plate for boiling water, tons of dishes) needed for a lovely stay. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to use the sauna which was the primary reason why we rented the cabin but with only one night stay, we were busy snowboarding and doing other things! We would definitely rent this cabin again. We had a great stay! Thank you for sharing it with us!

Cute hideaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent one night at the Hideaway for our anniversary to go ziplining (highly recommended!). It was a perfect little cabin for our short getaway. Easy to find, a short drive to town, and located in a nice neighborhood. The cabin was cute, well-equipped, quiet, and private. Just what we were looking for!

Most adorable cabin there is!

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I stayed at the Hideaway cabin and loved it! We have two young children, 1 and 2 years old, so we were torn between renting a larger cabin or sticking with a cozy one. We ultimately decided to choose the cozy cabin and we loved it! Here's my list of pros/cons:

-Cozy, beautiful cabin with beautiful textures and not a hint of dust or dirt anywhere!

-We loved the concrete countertops, the thoughtful touches throughout (a wine key when we discovered we hadn't brought one, sleds to borrow, easy directions for the TV/cable).

-We had a lot of baby gear and were a little worried about the stairs to the bedroom loft, but they were easily blocked by our Pack-N-Play or the cabin's ottoman.

-Yard! We don't have a yard at home and this was awesome! If you have kids this is the bees knees! The other couple staying at the house rental also had children so they played together, which was a nice bonus.

-Immediate, easy access to the owners. Every question I had was answered almost immediately. Awesome!

-Quiet, peaceful surroundings. The only loud noise we heard was the UPS driver laughing with a neighbor, which left us smiling and having a great neighborhood feel.

-Sleds to borrow! Movies to borrow! Awesome!

-Quiet....I heard lots of bird noises, rain, just general peacefulness. NO ROAD NOISE! We live in the city and actually worried that we wouldn't sleep here because it was so quiet.

-We arrived when the housekeeper was leaving and she was amazing! Friendly, helpful, and the cabin was spotless and smelled great. A nice way to start a vacation.

-That fort-like feel- Everything was there, just smaller. We talked about how the cabin felt like a fort, you know, like when you were kids and had this amazing place to hang out and play....the cabin was like that. Sort of magical and fun and secret.

-Bangin' heater!!!! You will be warm here! There is a wood burning stove but we didn't use it (little hands would have touched it). There is absolutely NO chance you will be cold.

-Small. It was barely big enough for us and we think that our kids would have slept better if they had their own room, but who knows.....they are 1 and 2. I think that if we visit again we'll rent the larger property. If you are a couple this place is perfect.

-Bed, a little hard for us. But that's a preference, right? You might love it!

Thank you, Barbara, for this great experience! I can see that whoever designed and d

A Cozy, Modern and Rustic Cabin in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

We arrived a little late in the evening from Los Angeles and it was fairly dark out already. We had the keys in our hands, excited to see our home for the weekend. As we slowly unlocked the patio doors and turned the lights on, all I could say to my boyfriend was, "Wow." We stood there in complete amazement for a second just scoping out the area and couldn't believe how cute, quaint, and cozy everything was. All and every amenity you could possibly think of was provided for you. We really enjoyed the rustic/modern look and feel; the bedroom loft was our ultimate favorite! The cabin is conveniently located less than 10 miles away from all the restaurants, bars, grocery stores, gas station, and zip-lining (what we were actually staying in Wrightwood for). Whenever we had any questions, Barbara and Stewart were very prompt and informative. There's nothing like getting away from the city and enjoying nature, and this cozy hideaway in the woods definitely lived up to its name. We can't wait to come back! Thank you sincerely from Audrey and Jud!!!
