Cow Hollow Apartment Rental Photos and Description

1 Bedroom, 1 bath, sleeps four

Originally built in 1890's as a restaurant that served the officers of the Presidio this unique Victorian cottage was converted to a house in the 30's. It is the lower unit of a two unit with a shared garden. In fact, some of the original rafters are still exposed. It has a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area with a library for your pleasure, a sitting room with foldout couch, arm chairs, a desk, and a TV. All the cabinetry is custom built by a master craftsman.

The bedroom has an antique four-poster bed, an art deco vanity, and plenty of closets, separated from the sitting area with curtains for privacy. The bathroom has the feeling of a hammam, tiled with Turkish tiles and looks out to the garden where you can also enjoy breakfast or tea. When you leave your private sanctuary, you will find yourself across the street from the Presidio (17,000 acres of park land) with lovely walking trails. Or walk down to Chestnut street for shopping and having a wonderful dinner.

Amenities: Washer-dryer. Microwave.

TV,VCR, DVD player.

Free Wi-fi fast internet access.

Library.

Highlights: Fabulous walking area, steps from the Presidio park, Palace of Fine Arts, Crissy Field Beach and recreation area. The Exploratorium is right around the corner.Lots of bus lines, restaurants, cafes, shops, ATMs, movie theaters, quiet neighborhood, walking distance to the Golden Gate Bridge. Lyon St steps, leading to some of the most beautiful mansions in San Francisco, is a five minute walk.

Aesthetics: It's ideal for a couple or a single person from out of town to explore all the wonders of SF. Perfect for a romantic getaway. In fact, we've had couples who got engaged here... Great place for writers, artists, and people involved in many other creative endeavors. You feel like you are in an enchanted cottage, full of wonder and mystery.

Decorated with unusual objects from our travels all over the world. The decor is shabby chic that inspires a European apartment or a country cottage.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A flight of steps leads to this cozy hideaway and adjacent garden. The bed is very, very comfortable, the bathroom delicious, the shower blissful, and the whole apartment visually entertaining, decorated with books and objects from the owners’ collections. We made good use of the convenient laundry and kitchen facilities and nearby Marina Supermarket. The apartment is clean and as described in the listing. The owners are very hospitable and attentive to supply small items guests may want. We enjoyed exploring and sitting in the delightful secluded garden; there was a bench and table and chairs for our use. The location is excellent and the neighborhood safe and pleasant for walking. You can explore much of the north part of the city on foot. Several bus lines stop nearby or you can call for a taxi to more distant locations. Altogether it was quite nice to have a sense of coming 'home' at night instead of returning to an impersonal hotel room.

Characteristic beatiful place, great location!

  • 5 of 5
We spend 3 nights at the beautiful place of Robert and Alev. They are such nice people and gave us a warm welcome. The place is the lower floor of their house, which is an old but beautiful and characteristic place. The decoration is great, the place is large and offers everything you need: nice kitchen, good bed, nice bathroom, lots of books, a sitting area and a garden. There even is a washer and dryer available. We really had a though timing chosing the neighborhood to stay in since it was our first time in SF. but we would really recommend this place and this area! It is close to Chestnut and Lombard street where you have all the nice restaurants and bars (many locals, not so touristy), you are a few feet away from Presidio park where you can have nice walks, bike rides and we even did our workouts there in the morning. Then, you are also quite close to the beach and the golden gate bridge. A bit further from downtown (which is not that pretty actually, but a large shopping area is there) and from the warf, which is VERY touristy. We rented bikes for 2 days and this enabled us to see the entire city without using our car or public transportation. You can easily ride over the golden gate, ride to the warf and to downtown. Robert and Alev were very sweet to show us around, help with parking the car, give us advice about where to go and when I had a little injury during our stay Alev helped me to go to a medical center. They are really sweet. The place is much BIGGER and much NICER than in the pictures we think :-) My husband is a photographer and he made some nice pictures which we will share so we hope this helps. The only small thing is that you can hear people walking in the upper floors (just because its an old house), but since Robert and Alev are really quiet people this did not bother us at all. We really recommend this place, loved it!

Comfort, Charm and Style Away from Home

  • 5 of 5
I have been coming to San Francisco staying in this studio now for almost 2 years about every 2 months. They only time I don't stay is when it's booked which is more and more frequent- a true testament to Alev and Robert's delightful little space near the Presidio. I appreciate all the thoughtful touches- books to read, a comfy bed, well-equipped kitchen, fluffy towels...everything a traveler would want. And what's more, as a former resident of San Francisco, I can not tell you how first-rate this location is. Walking distance to some of the best vistas in the city- first-class walks, great coffee shops nearby, charming restaurants and one of the best Muni Bus lines to downtown. Who needs a car? Everything you need is here. I travel a lot. I have stayed in numerous apartment rentals in cities around the world. This studio tops my list. Alev and Robert have a place that is part cuddly cocoon, part groovy California and part magic. Anyone who chooses to stay here is in for a treat.

Perfect Oasis for Couple's Visit to SF

Perfect Oasis for Couple's Visit to SF
  • 5 of 5
We come to San Francisco about every two years and love revisiting our favorite places. Staying in a vacation rental is ideal for our needs - gives us a place to relax after being out all day and, allows us to use our monies wisely by cooking and eating in for serveral meals. We were delighted to find this Oasis on VRBO and look forward to a stay there on our next trip. Positives: Quiet, only 1/2 block from the 45 bus which runs day & night and will get you anywhere, very safe area, small grocery at corner as well as restaurants all around, parking on street - from 3 PM to 10 AM - otherwise a 3 hour parking time or move your car., apartment well equipped with dishes, cookware, etc., excellent TV/DVD, great bed, large bathroom for studio - the studio apartment is arranged to give one a sense of openness and good flow. The weather was too cold to take advantage of the outdoor space but it definitely looked inviting. The owners were out of town, but their friend made sure that we were provided with necessary information, keys, etc. Great washer & dryer too! And, thanks for the recommendations for fresh fish markets, groceries, etc.
Things to be aware of: There is a flight of stairs leading down to the apartment - very well lighted and safe stairs - but older renters should take that into account. The only other wish would have been for a larger refrigerator (we love to eat in - especially breakfast and dinner - and had to buy groceries more often than we would have liked because of the size of the refrigerator.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your wonderful review. It's very gratifying for the owners to know that our guests had the perfect visit. We have replaced the refrigerator with a new larger one. All the best, Alev&Robert

exactly what we wanted!!

  • 5 of 5
If location is what you are looking for, this is it!!! Very quiet considering how close this rental is to everything. We would leave in the morning, on foot usually, and not make it back till bed time. We did have a car, and parking wasn't a problem.Muni is right across the street if you aren't driving. Having access to a full kitchen was also a plus. However...the pictures online really do not do this rental justice.Very cozy, relaxing place. The owners should update the pictures. We were very pleased with the rental and the owners were helpful and friendly. We would love to return to this rental whenever in the City. To the owners: again, thank you so much for everything!!! Cute and convenient

  • 4 of 5
We had an awesome time in San Francisco, staying at the apartment for 6 nights. I have laid out the pros/cons for this vrbo -

Pros:

Location! - In a great area very close to multiple Muni lines. Just a short walk to the awesome Chestnut St. area (recommended by the owner), full of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, as well as just a quick bus ride to the Union St. area with a more active night life. We thought it was a very quiet and safe neighborhood, no safety worries at all.

Price - Can't beat it!

Privacy - Definitely felt like we were tucked away from everything, but certainly not in a bad way.

Cons:

Comfort - Bed & Pillows feel like you are sleeping on a concrete floor, extremely firm and not comfortable at all. (deducted 1 star for this)

Quiet - You can definitely hear everything from the owner's quarters above, which wouldn't usually be an issue until someone above drops something at 6AM, which is LOUD. To give you an idea, you can clearly hear messages being left on the answering machine upstairs. (didn't deduct for this, due to the price of the unit; if the apartment were more expensive, this would be unacceptable)

FYI:

I definitely wouldn't call this a 1 bedroom, more like a studio. This didn't affect us at all, but if we were two couples travelling together, you would have zero privacy from each other (which is noted in the property's description).

Owner's Response: We’d like to thank the guests for taking the time to review the apartment and giving us the stars. We have some differences, I'd like to share:
Our guests are always told to let us know if they need anything. All the issues could have easily been addressed had they been communicated to us while here. Yes, the bed is firm, gloriously so. In fact, we’ve gotten so many compliments (you can scroll down and read the glowing feedbacks about the bed). It was my pleasure showing our guests the closet where extra pillows and blankets were kept. I’m sorry they didn’t try the other pillows. We deeply appreciate the feedback about the answering machine and already handled it. We would have done that immediately, of course, to make your stay more pleasurable. Oh, my husband accidentally dropped the can when he was putting the garbage out early one morning. He deeply apologizes. I assure you, it’s not his usual style.
Many thanks. :)

Charming

  • 4 of 5
The location of this apartment is great and convenient. Restaurants and groceries close by. It is also easy to get around on buses. The apartment is good size and very comfortable and nicely decorated, I would highly recommend it but not for anyone with mobility problems as there is a flight of stairs down to the unit. While there is parking along the streets and even in the Presidio, they are mostly for 2 - 3 hours. It would be very inconvenient to have to move your car very few hours when you are out sight-seeing. There is a small parking lot in the Presidio (about 10 minute walk from the apartment) that you can park for $6 for the whole day. However, it is not easy to find this lot and it would have been helpful if Alev provided some information where this lot is.

Owner's Response: Ching--Thank you so much for your positive review. We are delighted that you loved the apartment and the location and will recommend it to future travelers.

I'm sorry you had a difficult time finding the parking lot (there are several others in the area). I had provided a map of the vicinity and the Presidio. It was all marked and highlighted on it very clearly. We've never had any issues by any of our guests and will continue to do so.
Thanks again.

One of the most attractive areas of San Francisco is by far Cow Hollow and Marina.

This romantic apartment is across from the Presidio and George Lucas Park (where Star Wars films are made).

Five minute walk through the spectacular parks will take you to the beach through the Palace of Fine Arts with its lovely pond full of swans and other aquatic birds and a historical Maybeck palace edifice, then to Crissy Field recreation area with its wildlife and sports facilities. You can take a walk along the beach to the Golden Gate Bridge and one of the best surfing areas. Or visit Fort Point and its historically interesting museum with the unequaled panoramic views of SF and the Bay. Then, walk on the Golden Gate bridge to Marin County.

The cottage sits In between the great shopping streets Chestnut and Union, filled with charming restaurants, cafes, movie theaters, trendy boutiques, beauty salons, markets, and ATMs.

Several bus lines within a block will transport you to just about anywhere in the city. You will have an unforgettable experience of San Francisco in this perfect location. If you like outdoors or bicycling, the Presidio is full of natural trails, some with Andy Goldsworthy sculptures, that will make you feel as if you are in the country.
