A Perfect Summer Vacation
Submitted: August 15, 2011
Stayed: July 2011
Our family of 14 stayed at the GW Lodge in July 2011 and let me tell you, it was WONDERFUL. First of all, comfort is primary at this house. Everything is spotless, well thought out, convenient and relaxing. Your vacation cannot be fun if you do not sleep well. The beds in this home are comfortable, clean and abundant. There is no waiting to get into a bathroom here. Every bedroom has a bathroom so you can unload all of your necessary things into your bathroom and leave them there until your departure. That is so convenient that eventually, you feel like you are staying in your own home! The kitchen was just a little on the small side for us, and the dining table could have been a little bit longer for our family, but we managed quite well and ate every meal family style.
The outdoor living is another whole story. First of all, this house is literally on the side of a mountain. The road up to the house is very steep and the driveway is steep. No little kid bikes were taken on vacation this year because it would just be too dangerous for 3 and 5 year olds. But the quiet was everywhere. The peace was wonderful. The solitude was heavenly. Then, you go DOWN the mountain to the Boyne Highlands facilities and find all kinds of things to do. The pool is heated and WONDERFUL for everyone. There are extensive grassy grounds where you can engage in FREE 9 hole golf, chair lift rides, croquet and other lawn games, etc. etc. etc. And you get a feeling of family here. No one asks you for your ID nor do you have to carry around some kind of proof that you are staying in a Boyne property. Everyone just accepts that you have access to these wonderful amenities and they leave you alone to enjoy them. There is a casual, happy and safe atmosphere here that makes you feel completely at home.
In Harbor Springs there is a beautiful and clean public beach and of course, the quaint and expensive little shops. But just down the road back toward Petoskey, there is a PIRATE mini-golf that we visited almost daily and a bowling alley very near that was great for a rainy day activity. La Senorita has fantastic Margarita's by the way.
Back UP the mountain and away from all the hustle and bustle, we sat on the deck and listened to the wind in the trees, enjoyed a campfire and put the kids to bed early every night ~ because they were happily exhausted and comfortable in this home away from home. We are already planning our return. Thank you for a wonderful vacation.
