Our peaceful cottage is a great artists' retreat excellent for the fine art of relaxing - with lots of natural light & many amenities. Our setting is pastoral and we're within easy reach of so much of south Louisiana's great food, music, culture & nature. Come stay for a weekend, week, or more. Last minute inquires are welcome!

We're in the heart of Cajun and Creole Country.: We're in the heart of Cajun & Creole country in Poché Bridge, 10 minutes from Breaux Bridge. Some of the many great places to visit in or near Breaux Bridge are: Poché's Market & Restaurant; Café des Amis, with their world famous Zydeco Breakfast on Saturday mornings; Buck & Johnny's Pizzeria; Luis Perez Art Gallery; Charlie T's Specialty Meat Market; Mulate’s Cajun Restaurant w/live music daily; La Poussiere Dancehall; Kelly Guidry Art Studio; several local antiques shops all within walking distance in Breaux Bridge and in May, the annual Crawfish Festival.
Just 20 minutes away is the city of Lafayette. Stop at the Lafayette Visitors Center to find out what's happening. Some of our favorite places in Lafayette are: Borden's Ice Cream Parlor; Judice Inn; Cedar Grocery; Deano's Pizza; The French Press; Sans Souci Fine Craft Gallery, where local artists sell their artwork; Charley G's Restaurant; & for great live music, Blue Moon Saloon & Guesthouse.
So much to see, so little time to see it all!: New Iberia is about 40 minutes away and there's so much to see: Shadows-on-the-Teche, an Antebellum home; Konriko Rice Mill, America's oldest working rice mill; Avery Island's Jungle Gardens which offers a self-guided driving or walking tour and is home to a 1000-year-old Buddha, a bird observatory & the Tabasco Pepper Sauce Factory; and Rip Van Winkle Gardens, twenty-five acres of semi-tropical paradise on beautiful Jefferson Island with an excellent restaurant there.
Head north toward Opelousas and stop off in Historic Grand Coteau. 'Hear the story & visit the shrine of the Miracle of Grand Coteau at Academy of the Sacred Heart, then stop to browse the antique/gift shops and sample the local cuisine.' On your way back to Bonne Terre Cottage, stop at Myran's Maison De Manger in Arnaudville for the best chocolate shake ever.

More Natural Wonders ....: See alligators. Take a Swamp Tour of the Atchafalaya Basin (25 minutes from Cottage) or Lake Martin, (20 minutes from Cottage) the largest nesting area of wading birds in the United States. 'It's been listed as one of the top 10 bird watching spots in the United States. Avian activity at the lake is phenomenal! Each spring birdwatchers spy: blue, green & black crowned night herons; great, snowy & cattle egrets; white ibis; roseate spoonbills; American anhingas; barn swallows and wood ducks.' 'The fishing's great there and in the Atchafalaya Basin too!'
Also, check out Lake Fausse Point State Park, a 6,000-acre site which was once part of the Atchafalaya Basin.
Drive down & spend some time in historic St. Martinville, (approx. 30 minutes from our cottage). View the mother church of the Acadians, St. Martin de Tours Church, the fourth-oldest Roman Catholic church in Louisiana. Nearby see the Acadian Memorial & St. Martinville Cultural Heritage Center and the famous Evangeline Oak.

Bonne Terre Cottage is located down a gravel road in Poché Bridge, a few miles north of Breaux Bridge and just outside Lafayette. We're organic gardeners, naturalists and music lovers.
We built our passive-solar home here in Acadiana and lived in this lovely cottage for many years before we outgrew it, and now it's our retreat too.
Bonne Terre Cottage contributes to a healthier planet by utilizing green household products such as energy efficient light bulbs, a programmable thermostat, an Energy Star-rated air conditioner, ceiling fans, energy-efficient windows and eco-friendly cleaning products and laundry detergent. We cultivate an organic garden, tend a small orchard and a flock of free range chickens. Our 10-acre homestead, which includes a two-acre woodlot, is a National Wildlife Federation certified wildlife habitat. We provide our guests with, recycling bins, a kitchen compost pail for organic waste, 100% cotton linens, natural soaps and sprays created by local artisans, Organic and Fair Trade Certified food products, cloth napkins and non-disposable dishes, access to books, music and DVDs by Louisiana artists and a non-smoking environment.
