Breaux Bridge Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath (Sleeps 2)

Get away from it all & connect to Louisiana's Cajun and Creole countryside right outside Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. Our peaceful cottage is a great artists' retreat excellent for the fine art of relaxing - with lots of natural light & many amenities. Our setting is pastoral and we're within easy reach of so much of south Louisiana's great food, music, culture & nature. Come stay for a weekend, week, or more. Last minute inquires are welcome!

One recent guest said,'The hosts, an exceptionally wonderful couple, offer the right mix of southern hospitality and respectful privacy. For breakfast I ate eggs fresh from the owners' hens, and dinners became feasts enhanced with herbs and veggies picked from the garden that day....I made some wonderful meals in the kitchen, got some of my best rest in the cozy nest-like bedroom, and practiced my zydeco dance moves in the living room.'

We're in the heart of Cajun and Creole Country.: We're in the heart of Cajun & Creole country in Poché Bridge, 10 minutes from Breaux Bridge. Some of the many great places to visit in or near Breaux Bridge are: Poché's Market & Restaurant; Café des Amis, with their world famous Zydeco Breakfast on Saturday mornings; Buck & Johnny's Pizzeria; Luis Perez Art Gallery; Charlie T's Specialty Meat Market; Mulate’s Cajun Restaurant w/live music daily; La Poussiere Dancehall; Kelly Guidry Art Studio; several local antiques shops all within walking distance in Breaux Bridge and in May, the annual Crawfish Festival.

Some of our favorite places in Lafayette are: Borden's Ice Cream Parlor; Judice Inn; Cedar Grocery; Deano's Pizza; The French Press; Sans Souci Fine Craft Gallery, where local artists sell their artwork; Charley G's Restaurant; & for great live music, Blue Moon Saloon & Guesthouse.

So much to see, so little time to see it all!: New Iberia is about 40 minutes away and there's so much to see: Shadows-on-the-Teche, an Antebellum home; Konriko Rice Mill, America's oldest working rice mill; Avery Island's Jungle Gardens which offers a self-guided driving or walking tour and is home to a 1000-year-old Buddha, a bird observatory & the Tabasco Pepper Sauce Factory; and Rip Van Winkle Gardens, twenty-five acres of semi-tropical paradise on beautiful Jefferson Island with an excellent restaurant there.

Head north toward Opelousas and stop off in Historic Grand Coteau. 'Hear the story & visit the shrine of the Miracle of Grand Coteau at Academy of the Sacred Heart, then stop to browse the antique/gift shops and sample the local cuisine.' On your way back to Bonne Terre Cottage, stop at Myran's Maison De Manger in Arnaudville for the best chocolate shake ever.

For a nice day trip, visit the South's largest remaining antebellum mansion, Nottoway Plantation, right outside the town of White Castle near Baton Rouge, La

More Natural Wonders ....: See alligators. Take a Swamp Tour of the Atchafalaya Basin (25 minutes from Cottage) or Lake Martin, (20 minutes from Cottage) the largest nesting area of wading birds in the United States. 'It's been listed as one of the top 10 bird watching spots in the United States. Avian activity at the lake is phenomenal! Each spring birdwatchers spy: blue, green & black crowned night herons; great, snowy & cattle egrets; white ibis; roseate spoonbills; American anhingas; barn swallows and wood ducks.' 'The fishing's great there and in the Atchafalaya Basin too!'

Also, check out Lake Fausse Point State Park, a 6,000-acre site which was once part of the Atchafalaya Basin.

A Wonderful Retreat

  • 5 of 5
We recently spent 9 wonderful days at Bonne Terre. The cottage is lovely and so well furnished. The kitchen is fully stocked. Jen has thought of everything you could possibly need for a great visit. CD's, books, and DVD's are plentiful, but it was just fun to sit on the porch with a cup of hot tea and watch the chickens and horses in the back. Since my husband is from central Louisiana and I graduated from high school (eons ago!) in Breaux Bridge, we were already familiar with the area, but we still found plenty of things to do and people to see. Jen is a wonderful hostess. Even though she was quite sick while we were there, she was more concerned that we were having a good time and had everything we needed. (We did.) We are not artists, but this is truly a retreat. We're already planning for our next visit. Thanks, Jen, for a wonderful week.

Exceptional travel destination

  • 5 of 5
Bonne Terre is an awesome destination. It is an excellent central location for day trips in the surrounding area. Additionally, the cottage itself contains a vast and diverse blend of resources to help a traveler become intimately acquainted with the area (history, natural history, music, arts, food). The cottage host was also very open to assist with any questions or directions that we needed.
I have stayed at many cottages over the past twenty years, both in the U.S. and in Europe, and Bonne Terre is the cleanest cottage I have ever stayed in. The owners take exceptional care of this cottage.
I was happy that the cottage was equipped with exclusively environmentally friendly cleaning products and laundry detergents. Also, as advertised, there was no sign of pets or smoking in the cottage (excellent for those with allergies).
The location is very picturesque, with lots of wildlife. Ideal for birdwatching.

A Little Slice of Heavon

  • 5 of 5
What can I say. This was our second stay at Bonne Terre Cottage and it was as flawless as last time. Lovely cottage with everything one would need for self catering located in a peaceful country setting. Our hosts again more than went out of their way to make us feel at home. A great place to come back to after a day enjoying Cajun Country activities such as walking around or kayaking the swamp of Lake Martin or a night out dancing just to name a few. We have a ways to travel as we live in England, but will be back again. Thanks Jen and Todd!

Peaceful spot in Bayou Country

  • 5 of 5
We really enjoyed our stay at Bonne Terre, even though the weather did not cooperate (record low temps). Jen & Todd were gracious hosts and we enjoyed life on their farm with the horses, goat and chickens. The cottage was quite comfortable and had everything we needed. The location was in the country, but easy driving distance to Lafayette and smaller towns in the area. Easy day-trip to the Baton Rouge area for plantation visits. Lots of great food and music in the area. We hope to return when the weather is warmer! Thanks, Jen!

Peaceful cottage

  • 5 of 5
This cottage is a peaceful retreat and it's perfect for anyone who needs some quality time relaxing. The cottage is fully equiped and we even had gratefruit, yogourt and granola for breakfast. Jen is very warm and welcoming. We had a nice time and I wish we could have stayed longer. I would definitely stay there again.

A Perfect Nature Place

  • 5 of 5
Bonne Terre Cottage is the spot for people who love natural surroundings, a rural environment, birds, and a beautiful cottage not far from a big woods. From every window you can keep an eye on 17 birdfeeders in the lovely yard and horses and chickens nearby. On warm December days we ate all 3 meals on the fabulous porch with its comfortable furniture and dining table! The friendly and generous owner has coffee and treats in the frig for your arrival and local herbal soaps and lotions by that great clawfoot tub. She could not be more helpful and accommodating. For morning walks, the countryside beckons from the cottage carport. It was hard for us to head back North after our 3-week stay.

Bonne Terre Cottage, our charming cypress guest house, is located in the countryside right outside Breaux Bridge, and 25 minutes from Lafayette.

A recent guest describes our cottage as: 'The Perfect Home Base for Exploring Creole/Cajun Country's Mysteries and Delights. While in Louisiana researching a novel-in-progress, I was lucky enough to enjoy the peace, comfort, and charm of Bonne Terre Cottage for three weeks. The soulful wood cottage, with its soaring ceiling, wide porches, and sleeping loft, perfectly fit my desire for a peaceful retreat in nature balanced with a vibrant nearby social scene that included Cafe Des Amis and its Zydeco breakfasts Saturday mornings. (Can you say Fun?) Folks, the place is magical: fireflies sparkling in tree tops, cicadas signaling evening, and in the morning, the red streak of cardinals' flight across a pond to a wall of roses, just to give a hint of what you can expect.'

We hope you will come to stay with us at Bonne Terre Cottage.
