We just returned from a week at this refuge from or hypersonic life. What a welcome break!
I cannot say enough about the folks at Dewees Island Rentals. They met us at the dock and helped us load and unload our junk and took the time to answer all of our questions. The owner’s son knows all the crabbing/shrimping/fishing tricks and will show you. When I grow up I want to be him! We also met the happiest intern on the planet. What a life. Great Folks.
The house is fantastic. If you like to cook, this kitchen is for you. The stand alone ice maker was a huge bonus. The many windows and surrounding trees made me feel like I was living in an upscale tree house. Loved sitting in the upstairs sunroom and watching the waves. Tons of natural light. Great screened in porches. KILLER master bath. The steam shower was awesome. The elevator really helped my older father get around. The owner’s have done a fabulous job designing and decorating this house. I could go on, let’s just say I LOVED THIS PLACE!
If you are looking for bar hopping, shopping, and general noise, Dewees is not for you. Granted, the ferry can get you to those things quickly. This island is for unwinding, enjoying nature, sitting on a beach with no one other than your family, and going off line. I am telling you, we spent our first 2 days on the beach and maybe saw 5 other people. We saw dolphins, hammerheads, eagles, gators, snakes, raccoons, crabs, deer, shrimp, red fish, rays, trout, rabbits, flounder, pompano, and more birds than you can imagine. Shells, hermit crabs, starfish, and sand dollars were abundant. The flounder, trout, redfish, crabs, and shrimp made great dinners. I caught a 28” red fish at “six pipes”. The pool is nice and perfect for kids.
I do not know if I have conveyed this but I had a wonderful time. Family, good food, great house, awesome location, and friendly people; what is not to like?
