Overview

Pentwater Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

The Pentwater dunes along Lake Michigan boast some of the most beautiful beaches in the United States. White, silky and very clean, you will have 185 feet of private frontage with this cottage. Nightly, you will be lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves gently lapping against the shore. Start each morning with a long walk along the private beach for 1.5 miles to the Pentwater Channel where you will see water craft heading out for the morning sail or first catch. If you enjoy biking, you can enjoy a quick, easy 3.5 mile bike ride into town for a good cup of coffee and a scone at the local bakery.

There is nothing between our cottage and Lake Michigan except the sweet walk down the steps, which are completely surrounded by trees, very private. At the bottom of the steps, you walk along a very short sandy path to Lake Michigan. Our cottage is completely secluded and you are not able to see your neighbors. Our view is unlike other cottages that are much closer to the water because we have an unobstructed, 180 degree view.

You can launch two kayaks in Pentwater Lake, paddle down the channel, and then head south along the Lake Michigan shore back to the cottage. Or, take the canoe to the public launch at Pentwater River for a nice, leisurely paddle.

If you like to bike, there is the Hart-Montague Biking Trail, 22 miles of paved trail through asparagus fields, fruit trees, past our local Country Dairy Farm (where you may purchase homemade ice cream and other dairy-based treats). The trailhead is a 10 minute drive from the cottage.

There is no phone, television, or internet at the cottage. This is a place where you escape from technology to enjoy nature. However, the Pentwater Libray (4 miles away) has computers for public use, as well as wireless internet that can be accessed when the library is closed.

Having enjoyed so many of our weekends at Lake Michigan, we spent 5 years trying to find the right place -- secluded, with acreage of wooded land. We wanted a place that was perched high on a dune to offer pristine views of Lake Michigan, and plenty of private frontage.

Please be aware that while there is nothing but sand dune (covered with trees) between our cottage and Lake Michigan, there are wooden steps (with a railing) that lead down from the cottage to the beach -- there are 150 steps to be exact, with small seating areas along the way.

About Janet Cocciarelli, Dr. Alan Fanta

We really enjoy being at the cottage with our children -- it's so secluded, safe, and they can run through the woods, down to the beach, play in the little tree fort. It's quiet and peaceful to sit on the deck and watch the various hawks, eagles and other birds that soar. Huge freightors, fishing boats, and sailing craft will pass by on a regular basis. The best part is that we can't see any neighbors!

Janet Cocciarelli, Dr. Alan Fanta purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Janet Cocciarelli, Dr. Alan Fanta chose Pentwater

We purchased in Pentwater because it is very convenient to a major airport (Grand Rapids), and it boasts the most beautiful white sand beaches in Michigan. There are also two major ferries that you can take from Muskegon and or Ludington to Wisconsin.

What makes this cottage unique

We start every morning with a run from our cottage, down the two track through the woods to the main road, down to the channel past the lighthouse and then back to our cottage on the beach. It's 3.4 miles. Then, while our children play in the woods, we sip our morning coffee on our deck with an almost 180 view of Lake Michigan, watching the water craft, At night, we have a beach fire on our 185 feet of private frontage. From the beach, you can't see our little crow's nest, tucked at the top of the dune in the trees.

A wonderful week. The cottage was very comfortable, especially the sitting area with its expansive views of the Lake. Some updates could be done (needs a good grill) but these are things that can be lived without. We did get cell phone service so that appeased the techies in our group. A huge highlight was use of the kayaks as Lake Michigan just begs you to get out in it. Very clean, and everything was just as expected. We definitely want to come back. Thank you for sharing your home!

Perfect family vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely wonderful week and could not have been happier with the entire experience. Not only is Pentwater a great area along the lake, but this property is perfectly located to many local attractions. Most importantly, this property provides privacy and a tranquil setting. We were able to relax while our boys explored. It was exactly what our family needed to escape the crazy day to day and reconnect. Thank you for Sharing such a wonderful home!

Recharge your batteries in a beautiful, private location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I needed to come to the Pentwater area for a 3 day family reunion so we decided to take a full week off and rent a cottage on Lake Michigan. We couldn't have been more delighted with our choice. The location, natural beauty and privacy of this rental property were amazing. After 7 days of sitting on the deck looking out over the lake, quiet morning and evening walks on the beach, and great conversations, card games and meals all set to the sonic background of waves rolling onto the shore; we drove home completely refreshed and rejuvenated (to an extent that actually surprised me).

The owners left us lots of helpful ideas for things to do, alerting us to a great local bike trail, offering suggestions for where to find things like a good local grocery store or a spot to grab a great ice cream cone, and some (very helpful) descriptions of running routes of varied distances in the area around their cottage. After an absolutely fantastic week we decided we'll definitely be back....maybe for a two week stay next time!
