We have retired to the mountains of North Carolina and, Trust Us, we only live in beautiful places. We live in this area and think we have found Paradise in our charming town of Murphy. We came to visit and vacation here and just had to stay. Our home is pet friendly for we have two golden retrievers (THE GOLDEN GIRLS) that are the loves of our lifes. I am sure if you travel with your pets, they are also your children. Our 5 grandchildren think this is the best place in the world and we agree. It is so centrally located and after 12 years we are still exploring and finding new adventures. My husband's advocation is photography and he has enjoyed photographing all the wonders of nature in the area. Some of his photos are in the home. He won lst place in the GA Mountain Fair several years ago and won 2nd place last year. The fair is in July and is an adventure not to be missed if you are here. Fun for the entire family in Hiawassee GA.
The Owner purchased this chateau / country house in 2010
We came to visit here in 1997 and we fell in love. The next visit we found ourselves buying property and building a house here. What we love the most is the ever changing nature around us. We are always mesmerized by the sound of water and when we found this wonderful new home on a rushing creek we decided to buy it to share our piece of paradise in Murphy with others to enjoy. My husband said that the mountains are in my Scottish/Irish DNA and I would have to agree. As the saying goes 'You are nearer to GOD in the mountains than any other place on earth.'
The small town feeling where everybody waves and the deep history in this area is fascinating. The area where this home is located is where the last battle of the Civil War was fought on May 6th, 1865. This was an Indian Reservation and the Trail of Tears history can be found at our local museum. The folklore is long and interesting. All you have to do is ask and listen. A free performance every Friday night in the open air pavilion at John C Campbell folk school should not be missed. About a mile from the property is a monument to a Forge that was located here in 1839.
Dear Barry, Your lovely follow up note is as nice as your little paradise by the Rushing Creek! We enjoyed a tranquil and significantly cooler month of August at your cabin by the Creek. In fact, we fell in love with the whole area, and bought a small house just east of Murphy! Last night we gave our neighbors the vrbo info so that they can contact you for their own getaway needs. Thanks for everything, Jim and Jeanne
Our family from Florida spent a week in the cool mountain retreat. We had our 5 grandchildren(5,6,8,9,10)with us and they enjoyed the creek and hiking right at the cabin. Cabin was out of the town of Murphy but rich in history. We enjoyed traveling and swimming at Hanging Dog Campground park right down the road. Day trips including Murphy's courthouse, museum, shopping and eating at Mainstreet Pizza Buffet (has a game room for kids and adults)and the China House buffet. (very reasonable). If you have time visit the flea market on 64 west outside of Murphy Sat and Sun it has some very neat things. Took another day trip to Fields of Woods ( this is a place to get even closer to God if you are not there by being in the mountains) the gift shop is wonderful for that special one. Hanging Dog and Field of Woods great for picnics along with the River Walk in Murphy. The home is wonderful and has everything you could need. (all you need is the groceries). Debbie (owner) was a great and made you feel right at home. I would love to have this house as my own.
Our family of 5 had a great time here for a week. We spent most of the week in the creek and building fires. The cabin is fantastic inside. Make sure to see the fireflies in the nearby mountain - in June they put on a nightly show for us around 9PM.
Everything one could ask for in a rental property. We had a peaceful and relaxing stay. Thank you so much for you all you do to make it the perfect getaway!
The house was very comfortable and had everything you could think of. Fishing gear, floats and toys for all ages. Wish we could have stayed longer than a weekend. Will definately try to stay here again in the future.
I booked this cabin for a spring break vacation for my family, Sister-in-law and nephew; 3 adults and 2-preteens total. It was perfect! Exactly as advertised. Comfortable beds, beautiful woodsy décor, creek in back yard, excellent porch and fire pit, and fairly easy access. The cabin was clean and had everything that we could think of for need or comfort.
We ventured out to explore the area each day and came back to our 'little cabin' each night. I would have liked to stay much longer! Love that back porch and having coffee listening to the creek each morning....PERFECT!!
Very nice cabin right by the creek. Very clean and we'll furnished. Good place to get away and relax, yet close enough to shopping and stores. Great cabin for anyone.
