Netarts House Rental Photos and Description

Ocean-View House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6 adults).

Opening the front door, there's an ahhhh moment as the light pours all around you, and your eye is immediately drawn beyond the windows to the drama of the ocean filling the bay. Stay the week and get one night free, all seasons.

Though you are only 2 short blocks from wriggling your toes in the sand, with easy access to multiple beach, bay, and water activities, you could just watch, from inside or out on the decks: the tide coming in and flowing out, eagles soaring and perching in view, hummingbirds darting, pelicans swooping, and herons fishing. Meanwhile, boaters, crabbers, canoers and kayakers, ships at sea, sailboaters, paddleboarders, windsurfers in the bay and ocean, and even hang-gliders provide endless entertainment.

Inside is a mini-pool table, flat screen TV, games, puzzles, kites, books, CD, record and tape player, a children's play basket, a clawfoot soaking tub for luxuriating, and a setting so open and comfortable you'll immediately feel at ease. With 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms located across a wide hall from each other, there's sufficient privacy for 2 couples. One of the bedrooms has its own private bath and queen bed. The other has a king bed with an ocean view, with a skylight allowing the moon to shine through. Some prefer sleeping under the stars on the pull-out queen couch in the great room with the skylight above.

And the sun! Protected by the capes to the north and south, the sun will be shining here when fog envelopes everywhere else. You can wear as little as a tank top and shorts on the south deck, even in cold weather, as it's so protected from the wind, and you can gaze at the ocean from both decks. It's so peaceful and quiet, the ocean is usually the loudest sound around.

Outside in the fenced yard, your dog can cavort. You might want to use the kayak on one of the sleepy rivers between here and Tillamook, only a few miles away. Or, if experienced, paddle it in the bay when the tide is coming in, and the wind and sea are calm. On the beach, within walking distance north, is Oceanside with its cute cafes, espresso, and famed restaurant, Roseanna's. When it's windy there, you can always retreat to the protected cove that is Netarts where there's an equally fabulous restaurant even closer-by to the south with a fabulous bay-view outdoor patio, the Schooner. There's a fresh seafood stand, Floyd's, in walking distance open Thursdays - Sundays, 10-7 currently. A small grocery 2 blocks away has everything you forgot to bring. Should you care to shop, 2 blocks away is a curio store that always has fresh-baked brownies on hand. Seven miles away in Tillamook is the popular Tillamook Cheese Factory, golf, and numerous other possible excursions. From mid-June through September, Tillamook also hosts a downtown Farmers Market on Saturdays from 9 to 2. In the spring, whale-watchers flock to nearby Cape Lookout.

Sometimes when you go to the beach, it's to relax; sometimes it's to play, explore, and be active. It's all available here. Come enjoy!

About Samantha Willow

We are retirees living in Portland, who love that it's only a short scenic drive to Netarts for canoeing, kayaking, beach strolls, low tide adventures, and just relaxing. Being able to rest while being entertained by the view is a big plus. A lot of places have a great ocean view, but you have to go out on the deck. Or stand. Here, you can sit back, put your feet up, and gaze the whole live-long day at the dramatic changes of the bay and sand bar into ocean, and back again, with sea lions and birds and water sports of all kinds passing by. The fact that unloading means merely dropping our supplies inside the door, makes it possible to enjoy the beach immediately. (See below re: the 1 minute drive to be ON the beach!)

This special little, mostly unknown, gem of an area hosts a beehive of quiet, nature-based activity and enjoyment of the ocean, none of it intruding on, merely enhancing our own low-key enjoyment. Think picturesque! Crab boats, paragliders, kayakers, paddle-boarders, the lone adventurer exploring the sandbar only accessible by boat, with the incoming tide beginning to wash over it.... Exciting!

Samantha Willow purchased this house in 2006

Why Samantha Willow chose Netarts

Many decades ago my babysitting money went into my folks buying a beach cabin in Oceanside, 2 miles away (now for sale!). I grew up making forts on the beach, log dams on the streams, and exploring adjoining beaches inaccessible from the beach except at low tides. (Lost Boy Cave! Devil's Punchbowl!) As adults, my husband and I discovered canoeing across Netarts Bay to the sandy peninsula off Cape Lookout (that you see from our windows). After nearly being dragged out to sea once, we learned how powerful bay tides can be! We also discovered that when it's fogged in or windy everywhere else, Netarts is sort of a sunny 'banana belt'! And at 1 1/4 hours from Portland, we can be breathing ocean air, with our toes in the sand in almost no time. Plus, with Oceanside being the often fogged-in, or windy, picturesque destination 2 miles to the north, and Pacific City being the happening surfing spot 30 minutes south, Netarts is rarely crowded with tourists, though the bay waters often teem with crab boats and all manner of water craft!

What makes this house unique

What meets the eye when you walk in the door is what sold me on the place in that first instant. Your eyes are drawn immediately to the ocean out the windows. A little punch of awe. Plus, I love all the light pouring in. Makes me feel part of the nature you see all around. You'll rarely find a beach-view house so perfectly situated to take advantage of sunny days, where you can be out of the wind, with such easy access to the beach and so close to it (while still outside the tsunami zone!). It features expansive views, and is all on one level, so the floor plan kind of flows. The fenced grassy yard makes entertaining your dog easy, and allows for a game of croquet. Walking on the beach to Oceanside for fish tacos or pastries is a favorite treat. When we're feeling lazy, we drive around the corner to Happy Camp where we don't even have to do stairs to be on the beach.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This time a visit to the Blue Heron Cheese Factory/Petting Zoo was in order. This place and the soft roar of the tides helped me recover from respiratory problems and helped me better deal with my stepmom's death. Thanks again for the opportunity to heal, renew and plan in this delightful place.

VRBO #399575 Review

  • 5 of 5
Shat a delightful beach house this is! A TRUE GEM! Driving up to it we thought it looked so cute; saw the two decks and fenced-in backyard--perfect for our dog! We entered from the back into a mud room for our doggy things and shoes and jackets. Then we went into the kitchen and great room! So open, spacious, and light/bright! Every room was well stocked in every way! Even tooth picks in the kitchen. They have furnished the great family room with very comfortable casual slip covered couches, wicker furniture and a love seat. A big flat screen TV w/a cabinet fully stocked w/movies, cards, games, and books. The two bedrooms, love seat that opens into a double futon bed and two bathrooms make it very spacious for six people. The owners even have a notebook of activities inside and outside, places to shop, eat, and sight see, and instructions for leaving. Samantha and Steve are thorough in every way. There is a pool table, hula hoops, a kite and a kayak and a hammock. The walls are tastefully decorated. I could tell Samantha and Steve truly love the beach, ocean, and all it has to offer. It is located overlooking the ocean and only two short blocks to the beach. the beach is pet friendly and secluded and quiet.

The description and photos were accurate. The property was very clean and very well-maintained. Samantha was extremely kind and helpful in answering all our questions and/or concerns. We already have recommended this beach house to folks and family!
The Schooner, the Deli down the road, Lexi's, the beach, the beach!!! Kayacking for those who enjoy it, Oceanside, Roseanna's and Brewin' in the Wind, Cape Look Out, the light house, and Floyd's sea food shop, reading in the hammock, sitting on the decks, and tons of relaxing!!

Perfect 60th Celebration!

  • 5 of 5
We took my mom to this lovely Netarts Bay home to celebrate her 60th Birthday. The house was perfect. There was plenty of space for us to congregate and prepare meals together as well as relax quietly.

The weather was perfect for the four days we were there and we migrated easily between porches to enjoy the ocean breeze, fantastic bay view, hummingbirds (!!) and the bald eagle that flew over several times each day.

My 13 year old lab also loved the fenced yard and the ability to lay in the grass after swimming in the bay.

Samantha was a kind, accommodating and communicative host, and quickly responded to any questions I had.

We will definitely return to this warm and cozy home. Thank you so much for making it available to enjoy!

Happy guests!

  • 5 of 5
The host was extremely friendly and accommodating. The house was in great condition and was exactly what was advertised and expected.
We had a little bit of trouble finding the house itself as the small road on which it was located wasn't labelled.
Beach access was easy if you don't mind a tad bit of trespassing through the hotel property on the bluff. We did this multiple times and even said hello to the tenants and hotel manager without any issue.
The backyard and porch were a lovely reprieve.
We very much enjoyed our stay here!
Would recommend the Schooner for some fish n' chips and quality outside dining!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the kind words! That road sign unfortunately blew down during last winter’s storms, and hasn’t been replaced yet, but we have since rewritten our directions so that it should be easier to find our beach house in the meantime. It’s a very short dead-end street, so you can’t go too far wrong! As for concern about trespassing using the path beside the hotel property on the bluff, thanks for making clear that no one there cares if you use that path! Plus, our booklet of instructions makes clear that it’s actually a legal public right-of-way, despite the owner’s attempt to privatize that path via signs. And there is an even closer, shorter set of stairs to the beach at the end of Crab Avenue which could be used for those with any trepidations about using the other path.

Great Spot, Great View, Nice Town and Beach, Convenient to Portland

  • 5 of 5
My wife, adult son, and I had a lovely weekend stay in this house during a trip to visit him in Portland. The house and views from it were exactly as pictured, and the tiny town of Netarts was charming -- perched above the entrance to Netarts bay and looking beyond it to the endless surf and vast expanse of the Pacific. The house was in great shape -- clean, comfortable, roomy and well laid out, with two decks. It was also well stocked with games, puzzles, mini-pool table and fully equipped kitchen, barbecue, and more. The owners were extremely helpful and clearly very friendly, in E-Mails in advance and communications afterwards. We would highly recommend this house to anyone wanting a relaxed Oregon Coast vacation in a great spot.

Netarts is on the "Three Capes Loop, that connects Cape Meares, Cape Lookout and Kape Kiwanda. That's a beatiful drive, with fantastic views, lots of trails, and a combination of old-growth forests, high (but safe) cliffs, and great beaches to explore. Netarts has a store with all the food, including fresh vegetables, wine and other things we needed, and a quaint antiques store whose proprietor dispensed free brownies. Its short main street ends in stairs leading a short way down to the beach. For us to get from house to beach was about 3 minutes, maybe 4. The town was much simpler and far less commercialized than other towns north or south. There was a great restaurant (the Schooner), on the water, only 5 minutes'drive away, and interesting things to do in Tillamook, 7 miles away -- that would have been especially nice on rainy days. We also liked the proximity to Portland (about 90 minutes by car on a Friday afternoon and similar returning on Sunday). We spent a lot of time researching places to stay, and were totally happy that we chose this one.

A great beach home to return to

  • 5 of 5
We stayed here first last spring and find it the perfect place for our combination of needs and desires: great ocean view from the expansive great room, fenced yard for our dog, a deck with a view within the fenced yard, a store just down the street, beach access right near where the bay transitions to ocean, a clawfoot bathtub, a mini pool table and very comfortable house that feels like real people live there. This isn't some luxury lodging with nothing you actually need to cook or feel at home - this is a nice, welcoming home with all the stuff you need (even a little basket of toiletries you may have forgotten) and THE MOST FRIENDLY AND RESPONSIVE OWNER I've ever worked with on a VRBO rental. We are already looking forward to our next visit this summer!

Exceeded our expectations

  • 5 of 5
We stayed 2 nights for my mom's 82nd birthday. She was elated with the view of the water and spent lots of time just watching the waves roll in and out. The owners really keep the house well appointed, clean and cozy. We would definitely return.

Car: not necessary

3 minutes to beach for walks, play, or runs, Superb low tide discoveries, Netarts Bay is so healthy with ocean life that you tend to Bird-Watch all day long inside or outside the house, in the yard and on the decks: not just eagles, herons and hummingbirds, but pelicans in season; Canoeing, Clamming & Crabbing (or get 'em live in small grocery 2 blocks away), Home of oyster-farming, Excellent restaurants in walking distance, Small curio shop that serves fresh brownies 2 blocks away, It's generally so peaceful here that the ocean is the loudest sound you'll hear but there's endless adventuring on foot, bike, or by car nearby, In winter, stormy seas make being warm and cozy inside especially delightful. As the saying goes: 'There is no bad weather at the beach, only inadequate clothing!'

Whale-watching from the Cape Meares Lighthouse a few miles north is a seasonal favorite.

Even though we're outside the tsunami zone, we felt more secure having 2 stocked emergency backpacks on site.

From Memorial Day weekend through the summer, Floyd's - a fresh seafood shop - is in walking distance.
