A Great Get-away!

  • 5 of 5
This is a beautiful house with a gorgeous view in the heart of a jungle. The propery manager, Carol, was very helpful from the the moment we arrived, answering our questions, providing us with information about the area, and offering us eggs and delicious homemade bread for our breakfast. The property is about a 10 minute drive up a somewhat steep hill which puts you in the midst of nature. When going for a walk, we saw a troup of howler monkeys as well as 2 pair of toucans talking to each other from nearby trees. We were able to pick bananas from trees on the property and Carol treated us to homemade banana bread. We went on several nice excursions in the area - some organized through a tour group in Uvita (a nearby town) and some on our own exploring. We found a great nearby waterfall (we drove to it in 20 minutes from the house and walked in down a short trail (two minutes.) It was uncrowded, beautiful, refreshing on a hot day and free. We swam in the pool below the falls and watched locals jump in from the rope swing as a howler monkeys crossed the forested canopy above. Amazing! Beaches are within a short drive as well. The house was comfortable, clean, and beautiful. We cooked most of our meals and found everything we needed in the well-stocked kitchen. We especially enjoyed the huge decks on two levels of the house, relaxing as we enjoyed the spectacular sunsets listening to great music. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would enthusiastically recommend this property to friends and family.

Best part of our trip

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I spent a week here during our honeymoon in April 2014 - it was absolutely perfect and definitely one of the highlights of our trip. The house has some of the best views in all of Costa Rica, tastefully decorated, comfortable beds, lots of space - feels like a home away from home. There are several beaches a short drive away. The property manager was very friendly and helpful - she went above & beyond to make us feel at home. I would recommend this property to anyone.

Fantastic casa..... wow!

  • 5 of 5
Just stayed at this unbelievably beautiful casa. Design was fantastic. I understand the owner is an architect. The view of the Osa peninsula and the ocean are breathtaking. My son and I sat out on the deck for countless hours watching the rain shadow move up the coastline and the lightning displays out over the ocean at nights.

The house is clean as a whistle and although it doesn't have a dishwasher or 60" TV, who needs these things when you have a home this lovely with a view like this.

Previous writer who complained about this house must have been staying somewhere else. In my many trips to CR it is important to remember things like the internet, and TV occasionally are interrupted as the electricity often goes out for no apparent reason. Paradise is not perfect.

The caretaker, Carole, makes the best bread imaginable and a fresh warm loaf was sitting on the kitchen counter when we arrived and more keep coming on future days. She offered to cook for us for a small fee and her sweet and sour, beer breaded, chicken is scrumptious.

Not sure how our stay could have been better or more enjoyable. I will be telling all our friends who plan on coming to this awesome area of CR about this house. And when we return again this will surely be our destination. Wish I could give this house 10 stars.

Dirty & restrictive, but the views were beautiful!

Photos include AC and a dishwasher, but neither are included--and forbidden. We arrived with a bucket under the sink and had to wait for a plumber on 11/19. One day, we ran out of gas and couldn't finish cooking dinner correctly. One day the TV satellite service went out. Although the listing had a washer/dryer, we were told not to use the dryer due to the high cost of electricity. We tried to use the rack she provided on the deck, but with the afternoon showers, it was impossible to get things to dry. Also, the bulbs were low wattage, so it was very difficult to see to cook at night or even read. We received only 1 USB stick (we had two computers) and told not to access pictures or videos because of the cost. And the final poopey was that we were told not to throw our used toilet paper into the toilets--UGH! The caretaker, Carole, lives below the bedrooms on a bottom floor and not in a separate dwelling, which doesn't make for romantic nights, and even tho no pets are allowed, her dogs are accustomed to being inside. BTW, we loved Roxy and Bella! Carole did make lovely bread for us, let us "borrow" eggs and oil for our first breakfast (which we had to pay back), and the view was gorgeous, but other than that, it smelled like old grease, old bed linens, and possibly mold (and yes, she admitted to a previous mold issue). I walked away feeling dirty. Local friends told us this is not the norm for the area, and we readily used their internet service and toilets.

Definitely need a 4 x 4, and I think this would be great for surfers, backpackers, or younger people who are just looking for a hangout. No screens on the windows or doors, so be prepared for night bugs flying in. Oh, no flatscreen tv either...just a small old-fashioned box TV with a screen about 30 cm x 30 cm. I wouldn't recommend this to any of my friends or family, but it was a great learning experience.

Owner's Response: The house is very clean and does not smell. If my guests have a request I am happy to oblige.
As for the internet I suggest to all my guest for their benefit that downloading music or videos would get them ping'ed which would considerably slow down the connection. I never mention cost nor do I ever ask my guests to not view images or videos.

As for running out of propane, one cannot predict when it will run out. We always have a spare tank on hand and is replaced at the request of my guests.
I often offer fresh baked bread and eggs to my guests on their first morning if I have them and they didn't have a chance to shop yet. I never ask for repayment.
As for the toilet paper most of the world uses a two-inch pipe in the plumbing that connects the toilet to the sewage systems, but Costa Rica commonly use a 1 inch pipe which can be easily clogged by toilet paper. That is why we ask our guests to dispose into the bin. It is common throughout Costa Rica.
There is no mold issue with the house and never have since I have been here.
As for the AC and dishwasher they are not amenities offered with the rental. They have been decommissioned by the owner, hence not working. The house is breeze and cool.
Sometime the satellite reception will fail due to heavy rain. Very common in Costa Rica. There is a flat screen television with the rental.
Sometime things do need fixing which cannot be predicted, as any house would. It is always fixed expediently.
I always mention to all my guests that the use of the dryer is expensive. Clothes do dry fast when laid in the sun. The only time I have seen my guests use the dryer is when they visit during the rainy season.
The house is indeed very romantic and relaxing with ambient lighting.
There is a concierge on site as mentioned on the website. The concierge as two lovely dogs, Roxie and Bella. They are our security alarm system.
These guests left a very positive hand written review plus a tip. Below is their note verbatim.
Dear Carole,
It was so lovely to meet you! Thank you for the bread and letting us borrow eggs and oil for our first breakfast in Costa Rica. We really did enjoy our stay and learned so much from you. You are such a nice person and it's understandable why everyone raves about you in the reviews.
Kindest regards,
Glenn and Linda

Pura Vida

  • 5 of 5
My family stayed here for Easter weekend. What a beautiful Costa Rican home! The views are phenomenal! This was our 5th trip to Costa Rica - Dominical is our favorite part of the country. It's where the mountains of the jungle meet the sea - the closest thing to heaven this side of paradise! We were woken up daily by the howler monkeys. Is there any better way to wake up? We've rented other homes in the Dominical area. What makes this home above the others (beside the spectacular views) is the caretaker Carole. What a joy she is! She was so kind to our 10 year old daughter. Carole let her play with her dogs and gave her a big bag of seashells before we left. Plus she made sure we had eggs, fresh bread and fruit every day for breakfast. What a treat!!! We would DEFINITELY rent this home again.

Rest, Relaxation and Solitude

  • 5 of 5
What a wonderful place to stay! My family and I spent a week there over Spring Break. The home is beautiful and has all the bells and whistles you would want. The property is 100% Costa Rican, with lush foliage. Carole, the property manager, is not only a plethora of information, her hospitality makes you feel at home in a foreign country. The road to the property is steep and a little rough in places. Might opt for a 4-wheel drive if going during the rainy season.
