LAKE ONTARIO COTTAGE

  • 4 of 5
I rented this cottage for my family including two kids and grandma. Our purpose was spacious, safe and fun accomodations for my mother to look after our kids while we attended the PGA Majors each day in Rochester. The cottage is located within an easy drive to Rochester about one hour each way made a nice alternative for us to a cramped hotel. We enjoyed the endless views of being lakefront, the friendly neighbourhood, activities for the kids and new kitchen and bathrooms. My only suggestion would be for the cleaner to do a quick vacuum before guests arrive as there are plenty of dead (not live) bugs on all the screens, outdoor furniture and dusty indoor furniture. There is plenty of room to hang outside and kids really enjoyed Brown's ice cream and kids outdoor play area nearby. It was quite hot when we arrived but cooled down once we opened up all the windows and circulated air with the fans. Only one set of towels for each bathroom so bring some of your own too. Owner was good to deal with through VRBO. I recommend this property to others. Oh by the way, Foodland in Lyndonville closed down so closest full grocery store is in Medina.

A WONDERFUL WEEK!

  • 5 of 5
This was a fantastic cottage, living up to the marketing in every respect. We travelled the whole way from southeastern Virginia and were pleased with the spacious accomodations. It was a nice touch that neighbors brought fresh fruit by for our visit because we usually cooked in the large kitchen. Who says New Yorkers aren't friendly? We spent a few days travelling to Niagra Falls, Buffalo, and the Erie Canal. The sole less-than-fantastic thing, and we weren't surprised because the owners were candid about it, was the well water. It did the job of cleaning and flushing, but did have an odor to it. Lake Ontario was just through the front doors!

Owner's Response: We are so glad to receive such wonderful reviews! I am happy to say that we no longer have well water. The home is now on public water!!!

FUN WEEK ON LAKE ONARIO

  • 5 of 5
We had a wondeful time at this location. The house has been recently rennovated, and is very well equiped. We enjoyed the location right on the lake in the country, so there were several starry nights and we could enjoy a nice outdoor fire in the firepit. Visited many Amish farms and produce stands, so we had some great cookouts too. It was about an hour east to Rochester so we visited the Eastman House, and we also went to Niagara on the Lake about on hour or so west. The owner provided plenty of information in advance of our stay, so we had no trouble finding fun things to do, stores or restaurants. But, the best part was just hanging around the house and enjoying the very relaxing location indoors and out. We would recommend this location and the property. You should be aware that the property uses well water, but plenty of good drinking water is furnished, so we did not find this to be any problem. This is a great place to relax, enjoy the view and recharge your batteries.

A WEEKEND WITH THE GUYS

  • 5 of 5
I decided to throw a weekend get-together for my best friend instead of a traditional stag party. I found the Green Acres property, and was definitely sold on the photos alone. The pictures are EXACTLY what you are getting.

The camp is extremely up-to-date with the 2 full baths, and brand new kitchen!! It was really convenient not needing to bring pots/pans/dishes/utensils. Literally everything in the kitchen is stocked, and well.

The gas grill made a great ease for cooking up burgers and dogs all weekend, and the back and side yard provided ample room for games like kan-jam and even ultimate frisbee. The camp comes with plenty of folding chairs, too!!

The steps to the water are great to go into the water (bring your water shoes, sandals...the zebra mussels are rough!), or to just sit and look out on the water. The water is very shallow, we were about 300 ft out, and still able to stand with our heads above!

The bedrooms are all equipped with fans, clock radios, etc. Very accommodating.

The Main room furniture is very comfortable, and seats plenty!! We played cards around the dining room table, and even got to watch our Yankee games on the digital cable, so that was great.

Overall, the house feels MUCH larger than it is, a great use of the space that is given. I will definitely be renting this house again, and really couldn't think of anything to add.

The interaction with the property manager was very stress-free, and my deposit was returned promptly. I would literally suggest this camp to couples, singles, families, it's great for all!!!!

NOT BAD BUT NOT GREAT

  • 3 of 5
Pros:
* Owner was very nice. Responded to my email query within 24 hours.
* Price is reasonable.
* Multiple bedrooms gave some flexibility in sleeping arrangements. Bedrooms aren't large though, with only a couple having room to set up a crib or air mattress on the floor for little kids.
* Lake front with nice lawn.
* Kitchen comes with limited pots, pans, plates, bowls, utensils, etc.
* Location is very rural, which is either good or bad depending on your view. It's about 30mi west of Rochester in Amish farm lands. It's about 30 minutes to get to the Tops supermarket in Medina. There are few restaurants close by so plan on cooking. There are farms and vegetable/fruit stands close by which was nice.

Cons:
* House is pretty basic. I'd equate it to a finished camp.
* Water conservation is a big deal. Multiple signs as that showers be limited to 5 min. For toilets, if it's yellow let it mellow, if its brown flush it down.
* House needs a little work. Trim was coming off around the study doorway, and the trim on the floor transitioning between the kitchen and living room was loose, exposing nails behind it. I had to tape it in place to keep children from getting hurt. The screen door had a hole in it allowing flies to get into the house. There was an exposed wire in the wall by the sink, likely where a dishwasher used to be. I'm assuming it wasn't live, but I couldn't check it.
* Steps to water looked nice in picture, but there is wave action against the steps. Water is brown from the churn. I couldn't see how deep the water was. There was a house radiator in the water at the neighbor's. I wasn't comfortable swimming there, much less the kids, which was a let down.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. The bedrooms are not designed for very young children. There is a single bed a younger child could use, low to the ground. Beds are setup so there is no need to lug around air mattresses. There is room to add a crib in the master bedroom. Each bedroom is over 10x10.
I plan on making the small repairs mentioned and thanks for reminding me. I also plan on adding to the kitchen with more of everything next season, more plates, utencils, pans etc. Next year the town will be hooking the house to the city water supply, so there will no longer be water restrictions, other than normal water conservation techniques due to the size of the hot water tank. No one likes running out of hot water when taking a shower.
Water access: the waves have to do with the winds, which are not predicable. The water at the base of the steps is shallow, about a foot deep. If the water is churned up by the winds, bringing in algae, you can just walk out past it, it is safe. Everyone should always wear water shoes. The bottom is smooth flat rocks. Food: There is a grocery store 4 miles away in the town of Lyndonville called the pennysaver on Rt63. There is a laundomat and a gas station. There is a restaurant at Point Breeze about 5 miles east. I know it seems remote, but there are things to do if you know where they are. For example, 2 state parks nearby. Boat launch 1/4 mile to the east. Browns berry patch. Oak Orchard for fishing. Maybe I need to do a better job communicating about the area beforehand knowing your interests, so you know where there are things to do and see that fit your vacation plans. Thanks again for your review.

3 DAY LAKE SIDE RETREAT

  • 4 of 5
We really enjoyed our trip. We had brought two of fresh air kids from New York City along with our kids and another couple and were looking for a few days relaxation. This cottage offered all of that, plus. It was spacious inside and out, allowing for kick ball, catch, bike riding, and cooking out, complete with a great view. The neighborhood was quiet and any drive to anywhere had plenty of beautiful landscape to gawk at. It was a 45 mile drive to Niagra Falls and Rochester and a 20 minute drive to a 3 screen drive in theater. The steps to the lake couldn't have been more accomodating for fun for the kids with room left over for the adults to do some sunning. I will rent again.
