This is just a great place to take advantage of the races and the river.
We have enjoyed restoring the farm and house over the last three years. We stripped down the house and were able to save the old pine floors and ceilings as well as some nostalgia with an old homemade wood stove and some ancient metal shingles. We made some unique furniture out of barn wood and used luthier grade curly maple to make the kitchen cabinets. The plumbing is indoor and modern and the beds and linens are new.
The main level upstairs has 2 bedrooms-- a queen and a daybed with 2 twins, as well as a bath with an extra sink outside. The living room has a sleeper sofa and the small kitchen is on this level.
Downstairs has a King bedroom and a bunkroom along with a family area, laundry and bath with a jacuzzi. There are decks and a dock to take in the river and this is a great place to finish your float trip. You can pull out your raft or have your guide drop you off right where you are staying since this is the end of the river.
Our farm is where Watauga river becomes Boone lake and is on the edge of Johnson City so you are just minutes from the mall, cinemas and restaurants. It is a quick jump onto the Bristol Highway and you are 12 miles and less than 20 minutes from the race track.

We live nearby in town and will move to the farm when our kids finish school. For now we are learning to grow grapes and cattle and enjoy fishing on the river.
Jon Wireman purchased this farmhouse in 2009
This farmhouse was charming, spotless, and very quiet...except for the occasional moo from the nearby cows. We stayed here to be near relatives who live in Jonesborough. There were 8 of us and there was plenty of room. The kitchen is well equipped with every utensil and pan you may need. We did not have any problems while there except could not get the wood stove working ...if there were instructions, we didn't find them. But it was not such a big deal ( it was cold but not freezing!) so we did not ask about it. I loved sitting out on the porch and soaking in the serenity and scenery. It is very conveniently located just outside Johnson City and Bristol and yet far enough off the beaten path to feel like you are really "getting away". The owner, John, was very nice and checked on us via text message- which was nice. We knew he was available if needed. We hope to stay here again!
Beautiful home in a peaceful, quiet, country setting. Short driving distance to anything you may want/need. All the comforts of home with none of the stress!!! Kids enjoyed playing on the river bank (short walk across the yard & you're there) and spending the day on the beach at local lakes. Older adults enjoyed antique shopping in nearby Elizabethton & Johnson City. Evenings spent relaxing by fire pit & enjoying s'mores. We all agreed, even before our week was over, that we want to come back here next year.
The owner was very polite and accommodating. We rented the place for the Christmas holidays to be near relatives that could not house us all. The entire place had a great feel about it and was a nice place to have friends and family over to celebrate Christmas. We will definitely look to rent this place the next time we travel to the area.
Not to be redundant with the other posts, but the pictures for this property do NOT do it justice! Re-finished (original) hardwood floors, tin roof incorporated into the living room ceiling, faux "old world" look on the walls, modern amenities...and that's just the upstairs. The downstairs is renovated, quiet and has its own entrance and bathroom.
A feature not listed that we actually liked was the few head of cattle and horse in the adjoining pasture. Despite the closeness, the property never smelled like a farm, and aside from an occasional moo, the animals were very quiet.
The dock is a little further from the house than I expected, but has a nice, covered picnic area. It's a great place to relax, read and enjoy the weather. Also, be advised that the Watauga River is dam-fed so is VERY cold. This coming from a licensed SCUBA diver.
The owner was accommodating, professional and friendly, and there were no hidden charges or surprises. Even though the property is minutes from Johnson City, it is very quiet and remote, so we got the best of both worlds: nearby shopping and solitude.
There are plenty of things to do in the surrounding area like quaint towns, shops, hiking, and fishing.
I would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet, romantic getaway or as a rental to bring the whole family.
Having vacation rental properties myself, I am hard to impress. but this place certainly did. The pictures are way off. It is AWESOME. The house is very clean and charming with all the reclaimed wood and unusual features. I could sit and look out the window at the beautiful farm land, cattle, horses and river, all day. I went there to have a peacful healing holiday and it did the trick. I returned to my everyday life refreshed and ready to work. The owners were great to work with and provided everything we needed. It is a remote property but with a security gate and system it is very comfortable. Try it and you won't want to leave. Our 10 year old grandson wanted to trade our house for the farm!! Thanks guys and many blessings.
There are 2 major NASACAR races at BMS which is 12 miles away. The world class Watauga River fishery runs along this property. Trout and stripers populate the waters next to the farm. It is a great place to finish your river float.
